Nine people have been feared dead following a bomb explosion at a local bus stop in Mairari village, Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State.

It was gathered that the deadly blast was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted at a bus stop.

The explosion occurred around 11 a.m. on Saturday, and many people were reportedly injured.

The PUNCH reports that the Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, has confirmed that nine people were killed By IEDs planted by terrorists at a local bus stop in Mairari village, Guzamala Local Government Area.

“It is unfortunate that nine of my resilient constituents were killed by planted IEDs while waiting to board vehicles at a local bus stop in Mairari village,” Lawan said.

“May Allah grant their souls Aljanatul Firdaus. I also pray for the swift recovery of those currently receiving treatment in hospitals in Monguno and Maiduguri.”

The Speaker lamented the continued attacks on the region, noting that Mairari village had previously been resettled twice with full civil authority, making it unique in Guzamala Local Government Area, but had again been deserted due to renewed Boko Haram and ISWAP activities.

He explained that many displaced residents currently taking refuge in Monguno, Guzamala, and Maiduguri frequently return to Mairari to farm.

“Unfortunately, terrorists monitoring their movements planted IEDs at the local bus stop, which exploded while they were waiting to board commercial vehicles back to their destinations,” he narrated.

Lawan extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and those injured in the blast.

He also appealed to the military and other security agencies to intensify efforts to restore security in Guzamala—particularly in Gudumbali, the council headquarters, and Mairari village—areas which have long remained under the control of Boko Haram without any civil authority.

When SaharaReporters reached out to Nahum Daso, the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, he initially answered the call but did not speak. Subsequent calls went unanswered, and he did not reply to a text message sent to him.

On May 29, 2025, SaharaReporters reported a deadly ambush in the Marte area of Borno State, where nine members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) lost their lives following an intense overnight battle with suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) or Boko Haram insurgents.

According to a situation report from Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) Base 8, the attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, May 27, 2025, around 1:10 am. Heavily armed insurgents launched an assault on CJTF positions in Marte, sparking a fierce gunfight.

The CJTF, a volunteer security group that supports the Nigerian military in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North-East, engaged the insurgents in a prolonged battle. Despite being outnumbered and under intense fire, the CJTF managed to repel the attackers, inflicting significant casualties and forcing them to retreat.Nigerian cultural tours

Tragically, as the CJTF members attempted to recover the body of one of their fallen comrades, they triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by the retreating insurgents. The resulting blast killed nine CJTF members instantly.

The report also confirmed that several civilians captured by the insurgents during the attack were later brutally executed before the terrorists fled the area.

“They planted IED and CJTF who went to recovered one of their deceased body on their way back to their camp stepped on the IED and nine of the CJTF died X few civilians who were captured in the community by BHTS were gruesomely slaughtered,” the situation report said.
