Fuel Consumption Issues For Honda Accord 2006 by yommyk222(op): 6:58pm On Jun 01, 2025
Abeg I need help oo. I bought a car around March ( Honda Accord 2006, 4plug ) and after driving it for a while I sense that something was not right about the fuel consumption. Because I will buy fuel 15k and before I know the fuel don finish.

So I call a mechanic to help me scan the car and tell me what could be the issue. I was later told that the car catalyst has been removed and we never to replaced it and there is a sensor that need to be changed ( heater ).

After we are done I don't see any improvement infact it even gotten worse.

I called the mechanic and complained, he then suggested I drain the car fuel and buy 5L of fuel and know how long it will last me which I do and after driving it for about 15.8km the fuel finish.

I called him and tell him the result, he come the next day and fix few things from the car but no improvement.

So I take it to another mechanic and that one scan it and tell me we need to change the fuel pump and the plug which we did and after that I do the testing again and the 5k fuel which is about 5.6L only lasted me for 17.3km

At this point I'm even tire on spending money on the car. I know the previous owner probably sell it because of the fuel consumption issues but doesn't that mean the issue can't be fixed, please I your suggestion

Nozzles seem to be the culprit here

Sometimes it might require a change, but be sure.

I had experienced same years ago on same 04 Honda. After a rewire serviced it, the fuel consumption increased. I had to go buy another set of nozzles, bought the required tools and changed them myself. Problem solved until I sold the car

Noted, I'm also thinking could it be a rewire issue. Since the scan don indicate that the nozzle is faulty or need to be changed

Do you still have the thermostat installed in the car? If you do not, please go and get one and fix it. Fuel consumption will be less.

Change all the nossle and coil. Then try toks plug or buy original new one.

Nothing concern fule pump with fuel consumption.

Also drive the car gently.

If your exhaust is black. Check mass air flow sensor meter. Maf

I use the same car and I've faced similar conditions and I can answer or ask some questions

Is your check engine light on? If yes. That's your main culprit.

You said a mechanic scanned the car. Mechanics don't scan cars. It has to be rewire/electrician.

If any honda 03-012 is consuming fuel. Check the sensors first. This car has over 10 sensor that might be causing high fuel consumption. So do thorough scanning and fix it all.

Depending on what you mean by rewire. The person that scanned it is supposedly a rewire (auto electrician).

However, factors I thing could lead to that are nozzle, plugs, sensors and exhaust issue.

What's your location?

Mehn. You car is supposed to give you nothing less than 40km with 5.6 liters of petrol.

If you can get a mechanic to scan the car and give you the exact codes so you can post them here. It'll help.

I am suspecting they have removed your thermostat. That causes high fuel consumption.

It can also be your oxygen sensors. Or your injectors are dumping excess fuel into the cylinders. Check if your exhaust tail is dark.

Most importantly, scan the car and post the codes here.

It happened to me, so after changing the catalyst go to an electrician that use scanner change the 02 sensors after which the electrician should erase the code and re- scan it again in my own case it was done that way and the code went off
