I have HND and I have done Statement on Foreign Vocational Qualification from ZAB. Will I be rated as a skilled worker? Do I still need to do recognition. I have HND in computer science.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the helpful info shared here!

I’m looking into the Chancenkarte, but I have a bit of a dilemma.
I have a B.Sc in Animal and Environmental Biology (Zoology), but I switched careers and have been working in Marketing for the past 5 years.

I understand that I could apply through the skilled worker route (once I get ZAB recognition, since my exact degree isn’t listed), but I’m wondering: would I be expected to find a job related to my degree?

Or would it make more sense to go the points-based route, since it allows me to count my work experience and better reflects my current career path?

A friend of mine also plans on doing the same thing. Have you gotten the evaluation result yet? If so, is it equal to a vocational training?

Thanks.

The document only validate the vocational training. Recognition is done by professional body.

Yes I am not talking about recognition by a professional body, just the evaluation that you did for the HND through ZAB. I just want to know if it was accepted as a vocational training, that's all.

Also, to answer your question, you don't need professional recognition for your field. The ZAB is enough.

yes, it was accepted.

To understand you clearly, my application does not require test of english. it will be treated as skilled worker

You're definitely a skilled worker since you are sure you have received a positive evaluation for your HND. If it is FULLY recognized, you don't need that.

Regardless, you may confirm from the embassy by writing them, I don't know it all wink

For those that have submitted their documents and join the waitlist. Please let's state the date we join the waitlist so as to know the date the embassy stopped for the submission for the preliminary review. The embassy last Friday asked those who joined March 5th to submit for preliminary review and March 6th applicants are still on the waitlist, which means they stopped at March 5th. So let's state when we submit to join the waitlist. I joined March 20th, please state yours.
March 11 here. Still waiting

The years of experience is needed if you're using a point based system. So look at the anabin database and confirm that your course is there. If it is, just write a solid CV and attach to your profile. They just wanna see a recognised degree.

Though you can only get a blue card if you have 3 years of experience in IT if your degree is not IT related. Else, the blue card is offered for a job in your field

So what you'll get in Germany is a normal work visa since you don't have the required experience. Fear not, you can get Permanent residence in 33 months if you have B1 German. This will ideally be 21 months if you have a blue card

Hello Haliimmaa, how did your physical appointment go? Would appreciate if you could share any tips or details that might help us prepare better.

I also want to ask, when you got to the end of your waiting period, were you asked to submit for preliminary review (and were you able to edit your application before submission), or did you automatically receive the feedback from the preliminary review at that point?

Haliimmaa:
Yes, I got an appointment date for the 28th of this month.

I need help with getting a health insurance policy. Do you have any ideas how I can go about that?
Re: Migrating To Germany For Free : The Chancekarte Discussions by ZiggyZiggy: 10:51pm On May 29, 2025
Even though you apply for the opportunity card with your degree, you don’t have to find a job that matches your degree exactly. What matters is whether:

- You’re qualified for the role based on your skills and work experience.
- The employer is willing to hire you based on those qualifications.
- The job is classified as skilled and eligible for a Skilled Worker Residence Permit or a Blue Card

Exceptions: A Blue Card might require an educational background in the field, and people who want to work in regulated fields (medicine, law, etc) also require an educational background

You don't. You wait for your turn in 2 to 6 months, and then you send for preliminary review before they ask you to book an appointment

Thank you very much. I'll proceed with the Skilled worker route.

hi @hannania what id the primary school certificate is a testimonial and not a leaving school certificate. does it still have to go through the primary board? Especially for those from private primary school.

Hannania:
Firstly, take that primary certificate, and ask the primary board in your state to issue you a verified one with a stamp and serial number.

Secondly, on Anabin it is written as Bachelor of Medical laboratory science. Not Bachelors of Science in Laboratory science. This is a 50/50 shot. So I'll advise you to apply with it while doing ZAB just incase.

For SL, ask your in-law to walk into the ausländerbehörde of his city and request for the letter. They alone will confirm that since every city has a minimum requirement.

Lastly, there's no more rejection appeal at the German embassy form 1st of July. So be careful in your application. Once you're rejected, you have to start again or possibly wait for one year before joining the queue again. So make sure all your documents are original and do ZAB just incase because Med lab is not there

This depends on the VO that reviews your documents during preliminary review. People that were on the preliminary review stage with me all got bounced and were asked to upload the certificate. I've also seen like 2 people after that who passed that state with just a testimonial. So don't worry much, whatever update that is needed, you'll be told on that portal and you can reply there with a counter claim

The physical appointment did not go bad. Only downside is that I had to wait 6 hours before my interview so I was very very exhausted and had a hard time going through the interview. Regardless I think it went well.

- Go with all your original documents according to the list that will be provided after the preliminary review.
- Make sure you take a passport according to the german visa passport requirements.
- You can pay for the visa by cash or card(via a pos there). If you're paying cash, make sure that its in denominations of 500 and 1000 naira notes. Other denominations will be rejected. It's safer to go with a card.
- You wont be allowed in with your bag so just come with the file containing your documents. Your phone will also be turned off and put in a locker so be mentally prepared.
- Be ready to walk them through your work experience.

Again, make sure all your documents are complete and are original copies.

When i got to the end of my waiting period, I was indeed asked to submit for preliminary review but I'm not sure if i was able to edit before submission. I think its safer to leave the application as is because while in preliminary review, you'll get emails if they need you to change a document or correct something in which case you'll have the opportunity to make corrections. Good luck guys and wish me luck.

Also, take a prepaid envelope with you as that is what they'll use to send your documents and passport back to you. You can get one at a DHL outlet. Just tell them what you want to do and you'll be given a form to fill. Please call to confirm which outlet gives out those envelopes as not all of them do.

Praying a positive outcome for you.

I lost the originals of my waec and first degree certificate, wonder how I'd handle that at the interview stage, any idea? Anyone?
