The Federal Government has warned Abuja automobile dealer, popularly known as Alamin Sarkinmota, against taunting civil servants in the country about their inability to acquire most of the cars he put up for sale in his advert videos.

This was disclosed by the National Orientation Agency in a letter signed by its Director-General, Lanre Issa-Onilu, on Monday.

According to Onilu, the agency is not pleased with the recent advert put up by Sarkin-Mola in a video to promote a Mercedes Benz 2023 C300 with Artificial Intelligence functionalities, where he asked the question “Can civil servants afford you?” and the AI function responded to say “No! may be in 2062.”

The statement read, “We write in reference to a video skit that you made ostensibly to promote a Mercedes Benz 2023 C300 with Al functionalities, which you showcased and asked the question ‘Can civil servants afford you?’ and the Artificial intelligence function responded to say ‘No! may be in 2062.’

“At a time when Nigerians are passing through so much social pressure and in an environment where get-rich-at-all-cost syndrome is pervasive and material things are being promoted over and above dignity of labour and decent values, it is wrong to be speaking in such condescending terms about Nigerian civil servants.

“To be a civil servant in Nigeria as is the case in most countries of the world is a very important role. Civil servants across sectors are the ones who work hard to provide enabling environment for businesses like yours to thrive and prosper. It is therefore indecent to speak condescendingly about Nigerian civil servants who spend many years of their lives dedicated to driving the machinery of
government so that businesses like yours can thrive for the benefit of
national development.”

The agency therefore warned the auto dealer to mind his choice of words whenever he is trying to promote his vehicles for sale so as not to hurt what it described as “sensibilities of any segment of Nigerians.”

civil servants are responsible for issuing any licensees, permits etc the man needs to run his business. he is actually very foolish for doing this. it will be very easy for an annoyed civil servant to set him up for an infarction.

Is it not to press the neck of their employers (Government) to let them know that they pay the lowest salaries which most employees cannot survive on except they come up with other streams of income?

The truth is most civil servants cannot survive on their salary except they breach the rules of civil service by engaging in other business. Following the normal civil service code of conduct , no civil servant is permitted to do business or trade aside farming but look around u and tell me the number of civil servants u know doing printing business, supplying eggs, owing tutorial centers, etc.

A former commissioner in Lagos who spoke anonymously said, “This is not just about ego or protocol breaches. The President feels let down in certain ways, and when that happens, he doesn’t forget easily.”

As the political father-son dynamic continues to unravel, senior party stakeholders are increasingly worried. If the rift deepens further, it may fracture the Lagos APC machinery, long regarded as the crown jewel of Tinubu’s political empire.

But beyond Sanwo-Olu’s visible absence during President Tinubu’s recent visit to Lagos, political watchers are more intrigued by his conspicuous non-attendance at the APC National Policy and Performance Review Summit in Abuja, where the president was formally endorsed for a second term.

Feelers have it that Sanwo-Olu may have been barred from the Presidential Villa in the aftermath of a politically sensitive attempt to unseat the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa. This dramatic episode nearly upended the internal cohesion of the Lagos APC, and it is believed to have severely strained relations between the governor and his long-time political benefactor, President Tinubu.

According to findings, at least 32 out of the 40 members of the Lagos Assembly signed a resolution to remove Obasa after a meeting with Governor Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos State Government House in Marina.

Allegations emerged that the governor actively encouraged and financially motivated the lawmakers to oust Obasa, replacing him with his then-deputy, Mojisola Meranda. The rebellion, however, was swiftly halted following a direct intervention from President Tinubu, who reportedly summoned key stakeholders and ordered the immediate reinstatement of Obasa, citing the need to preserve party unity and political stability in Lagos.

For the president and his allies, Sanwo-Olu’s manoeuvre was seen not just as a miscalculation but as a betrayal, an attempt to alter the delicate political architecture Tinubu has painstakingly built in Lagos since 1999. In political parlance, such an action is considered an unpardonable offence, tantamount to rebellion within the camp.
