The Federal Government has warned Abuja automobile dealer, popularly known as Alamin Sarkinmota, against taunting civil servants in the country about their inability to acquire most of the cars he put up for sale in his advert videos.

This was disclosed by the National Orientation Agency in a letter signed by its Director-General, Lanre Issa-Onilu, on Monday.

According to Onilu, the agency is not pleased with the recent advert put up by Sarkin-Mola in a video to promote a Mercedes Benz 2023 C300 with Artificial Intelligence functionalities, where he asked the question “Can civil servants afford you?” and the AI function responded to say “No! may be in 2062.”

The statement read, “We write in reference to a video skit that you made ostensibly to promote a Mercedes Benz 2023 C300 with Al functionalities, which you showcased and asked the question ‘Can civil servants afford you?’ and the Artificial intelligence function responded to say ‘No! may be in 2062.’

“At a time when Nigerians are passing through so much social pressure and in an environment where get-rich-at-all-cost syndrome is pervasive and material things are being promoted over and above dignity of labour and decent values, it is wrong to be speaking in such condescending terms about Nigerian civil servants.

“To be a civil servant in Nigeria as is the case in most countries of the world is a very important role. Civil servants across sectors are the ones who work hard to provide enabling environment for businesses like yours to thrive and prosper. It is therefore indecent to speak condescendingly about Nigerian civil servants who spend many years of their lives dedicated to driving the machinery of
government so that businesses like yours can thrive for the benefit of
national development.”

The agency therefore warned the auto dealer to mind his choice of words whenever he is trying to promote his vehicles for sale so as not to hurt what it described as “sensibilities of any segment of Nigerians.”
Lmao 🤣

These ones never know wetin Dey do them . After the long cap , the reality still remains that civil servants would not be able afford the guy’s vehicles even in 2062 . Even the government knows this fact but dem no want to tell the civil servants the reality grin

civil servants are responsible for issuing any licensees, permits etc the man needs to run his business. he is actually very foolish for doing this. it will be very easy for an annoyed civil servant to set him up for an infarction.

it is the same message the government is sending.

let me paraphrase - may you come to the attention of the civil servants in authority
if them vex for this guy and handle his matter - he will be falling over himself to dash civil servants car so his business can run

He’s not foolish kan kan.

He is selling luxury vehicles which civil servants cannot afford and that’s a fact . In fact most civil servants cannot afford basic everyday cars on their meager salary .

Civil servants would be the fooolish ones if they are triggered by his advert and not triggered by the fact that their salary cannot afford them basic things like a 20 year old car without borrowing, begging or stealing .

So now that the guy has been warned and would probably not use the “it’s not for civil servant phrase “ in his adverts anymore , would the civil servants automatically be able to afford his cars ?

Which civil servants are in authority ? The perm secs , Directors , deputy directors , and assistant directors that steal money ? They are like the only one that have an iota of authority and we all know they are the ones who take bribes from the elites to have anything approved through their ministry .

Make dem rest jare .

you cannot complain about a culture that celebrates wealth over everything and then at the same time defend attitudes like this

there is a reason they use the word the word economy class rather than third class.

deliberately mocking people because they are in underrpaying jobs or careers is a very not nice thing to do.

unless you are ok with that

lolz. So the government deliberately pay civil servants lower than every other worker in the economic system but don't want people to point that out ?

Do u know that most salary earners cannot actually afford the guy's luxury cars? Why do u think the guy singles out civil servants ? Is it not to press the neck of their employers (Government) to let them know that they pay the lowest salaries which most employees cannot survive on except they come up with other streams of income?

See, we have a very bad attitude of ignoring the problem and hoping & wishing it will go away. The truth is most civil servants cannot survive on their salary except they breach the rules of civil service by engaging in other business. Following the normal civil service code of conduct , no civil servant is permitted to do business or trade aside farming but look around u and tell me the number of civil servants u know doing printing business, supplying eggs, owing tutorial centers, etc.

If civil servants don't believe in wealth , why do u think they are doing all of the above extra-curricular economic activities plus their civil service job?

The once-cordial relationship between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his long-time political protégé, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, appears to be fraying, and with no signs of reconciliation in sight, party stakeholders are becoming increasingly concerned.

Though neither President Bola Tinubu nor Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has publicly acknowledged any rift between them, sources within the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the national, zonal, and state levels confirm that a subtle but widening gulf now separates the President and the Lagos governor.

Efforts to intervene have been minimal, with some party leaders choosing to ignore the signs in the hope that time might mend the fracture. Others, however, believe the tension reflects a familiar pattern in Tinubu’s political trajectory: trusted allies who rise through his influence but later act in ways he perceives as betrayal.

The just-concluded visit of President Tinubu to Lagos further exposed the depth of the tension. From his arrival at the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, observers noted an unusual frostiness. Eyewitnesses said President Tinubu pointedly refused to acknowledge or exchange a handshake with Governor Sanwo-Olu, walking past him and instead greeting Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, a gesture that many insiders say was calculated and deliberate.

To manage the optics, the President’s media team reportedly issued strict instructions that footage of the airport arrival, particularly the greeting scene, not be broadcast. Aides were allegedly directed to edit or suppress any clips that might confirm speculation about the strained ties

According to a high-level source privy to internal conversations, Governor Sanwo-Olu was also sidelined from escorting the President to his Bourdillon residence in Ikoyi, a role traditionally reserved for the sitting governor of Lagos.

Instead, Hamzat accompanied Tinubu, further underscoring the altered dynamics between the two men
.

The absence of Governor Sanwo-Olu and top members of his administration from key events during the President’s visit, including the high-profile 50th anniversary celebration of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) held at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), also raised eyebrows.

Held in Victoria Island, Lagos, the city where ECOWAS was founded in 1975, the event was expected to draw the presence of the host governor. Traditionally, such a milestone would see the governor deliver a goodwill message or keynote speech. But Sanwo-Olu was nowhere to be seen. When pressed, a member of his media team told The Guardian: “The governor had an important engagement elsewhere.” That explanation, however, struck many observers as insufficient, given the significance of both the President’s presence and the event’s symbolism for Lagos.

The governor and his aides were also noticeably absent throughout Friday during President Tinubu’s engagements across the state. Sources within the Villa and Lagos APC confirmed that Sanwo-Olu’s name was initially omitted from the official protocol manifest for receiving the President. “It took intense last-minute lobbying and persuasion to get the governor included,” one insider told The Guardian. “Otherwise, only the deputy governor was supposed to be at the airport.”

Further fuelling the speculation was the conspicuous absence of Lagos APC stalwarts, particularly members of the influential Governors Advisory Council (GAC), from the Bourdillon residence. While political associates still came to pay homage to the President, the usual fanfare, solidarity visits, and photo opportunities were markedly subdued.

Though no official reason has been given for the simmering discord, political analysts speculate that tensions may stem from policy disagreements, alleged lapses in loyalty, or unspoken differences over Lagos 2027 succession plans. Some also point to whispers that certain appointments and decisions taken by Sanwo-Olu since his re-election have not sat well with the President.

Regardless of the cause, the visible chill in relations between Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu could have broader implications for Lagos APC unity and 2027 political permutations, especially as President Tinubu prepares to consolidate control ahead of a likely re-election campaign.

A former commissioner in Lagos who spoke anonymously said, “This is not just about ego or protocol breaches. The President feels let down in certain ways, and when that happens, he doesn’t forget easily.”

As the political father-son dynamic continues to unravel, senior party stakeholders are increasingly worried. If the rift deepens further, it may fracture the Lagos APC machinery, long regarded as the crown jewel of Tinubu’s political empire.

But beyond Sanwo-Olu’s visible absence during President Tinubu’s recent visit to Lagos, political watchers are more intrigued by his conspicuous non-attendance at the APC National Policy and Performance Review Summit in Abuja, where the president was formally endorsed for a second term.

Feelers have it that Sanwo-Olu may have been barred from the Presidential Villa in the aftermath of a politically sensitive attempt to unseat the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa. This dramatic episode nearly upended the internal cohesion of the Lagos APC, and it is believed to have severely strained relations between the governor and his long-time political benefactor, President Tinubu
.

According to findings, at least 32 out of the 40 members of the Lagos Assembly signed a resolution to remove Obasa after a meeting with Governor Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos State Government House in Marina.

Allegations emerged that the governor actively encouraged and financially motivated the lawmakers to oust Obasa, replacing him with his then-deputy, Mojisola Meranda. The rebellion, however, was swiftly halted following a direct intervention from President Tinubu, who reportedly summoned key stakeholders and ordered the immediate reinstatement of Obasa, citing the need to preserve party unity and political stability in Lagos.

For the president and his allies, Sanwo-Olu’s manoeuvre was seen not just as a miscalculation but as a betrayal, an attempt to alter the delicate political architecture Tinubu has painstakingly built in Lagos since 1999. In political parlance, such an action is considered an unpardonable offence, tantamount to rebellion within the camp. Since then, relations between Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu have remained frosty, with the latter increasingly sidelined in core national party activities.

Tinubu had a rift with Fashola, Ambode and now Sanwoolu huh

Bros, what is actually the problem?

He doesn't have to pick on anyone to sell his cars. 90% of workers in both the public and private sector cannot afford a 200 million naira car. So, there's no need to taunt civil servants Everytime, or even anyone

I am not pained though. But it is Civil servants today, it could be Doctors tomorrow, it could be men tomorrow, it could be students tomorrow.

The guy is simply using niche marketing strategy i.e he’s focusing his marketing efforts on a well defined segment of the market with unique preferences . He’s implying focusing his marketing and promotional efforts on the “non-civil servants “ .

It’s actually a thing and not a crime .

It’s just the way some manufacturers and sellers focus on low income earners to sell their product when they say “na chikini money “

I can’t even afford his cars but I don’t find the adverts demeaning or belittling .

Niche marketing, you say?

The number of people in his followers that can afford his cars may not be up to 20.

Do you know the ratio of finding a 70 million naira spender in a group of 1000 Nigerians?

He is obviously doing it for content. And yes, it is not a crime, but then, it can obviously be avoided so we don't set a bar in the future

Tomorrow, someone will target Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba guys. Someone will target Muslims, Nigerians, Africans...

Like I said, he doesn't need to drag anyone to sell his cars.
