WASSCE 2024 exam fraud: WAEC warns KC, Igbobi, CMS, 106 others, derecognises 9 schools


The Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has taken drastic actions against 118 public and private schools for alleged exam malpractice.

The list seen by Daily Sun includes some prominent secondary schools in the country.

The NEC at the end of their meeting issued serious warning to 109 secondary schools and derecognized nine others for examination malpractice during the May/June 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

“The Nigeria Examinations Committee investigated various reported cases of examination malpractice and consequently decided to warn/derecognize the following schools for examinations malpractice, Oluju, L.O, senior deputy registrar stated.

Some of the schools issued warnings include Kings College, Lagos, CMS Grammar School, Bariga, Igbobi College, Yaba, Baptist Girls Academy, Obanikoro, Lagos State Model Senior College, Kankon, Whitesands School,Lekki, Vetland Senior Senior Grammar School, Ifako-Ijaiye, Keke Senior High School, Solomon Grace Secondary School, Abule-Egba.

Others are Immaculate Heart School, Maryland, Lagos City College, Yaba, Saint Timothy’s College, Onike, Lagos, Ilupeju Senior Grammar School, Ilupeju, Gbaja Senior Girls High School, Akerele, Jakande Estate Comprehensive Senior College, Akesan, Onward High School, Ikate, Coker Senior Secondary School, Orile Iganmu, Iponri Estate Senior High School, Iponri, Brainstar College, Okota, Bamfem Comprehensive High School, Magbon, and Festac Senior Grammar School, Festac Town, Lagos.


The nine derecognize schools are Lagos Baptist Senior High Secondary School, Agege, Assfood International College, Ketu, Greendome High School, Oworoshoki, Community Senior Secondary School, Adeniran Ogunsanya, Eunice College, Odutola, Lagout Ajasa, Command Griffiths College, Igbobi- Ikorodu, Submile College, Ojo, Rose Bethel Comprehensive High School, Mosafejo, Ojo and Lily Pride Comprehensive High School, Igando.


A breakdown revealed that of the nine schools derecognized, two are state-owned schools and seven are privately-owned schools.

Daily Sun gathered that the nine derecognized schools did not present candidates for the ongoing May/June 2025 WASSCE. The candidates were taken to other schools to write the school examination.

The school exam was written by 1,805,216 candidates from 25,126 recognized secondary schools in the country. According to WAEC, the examination was also administered to candidates from some schools in Benin Republic, Cote d’Ivoire and Equatorial Guinea, where the Nigerian, curriculum for senior secondary schools is being used.

The results of 215,267 candidates, representing 11.92% of the number of candidates that sat for the examination, were withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.

The council observed that the increasing use of cell phones in the examination hall, in spite of the existing ban, and organized cheating in some schools, are other nagging issues.

Why didn't they give us the geopolitical locations of these school so we can know the region with the highest exam malpractice
