2027 Will Be Referendum On APC’s Failure – PDP by Ofunaofu(op): 7:27pm On Jun 04, 2025
The Peoples Democratic Party has declared that the outcome of its 99th National Executive Committee meeting demonstrates a renewed unity among its leaders aimed at repositioning the party.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, stated that the 2027 presidential election will serve as a referendum on the failures of the All Progressives Congress-led administration, emphasising that defections will not be enough to save President Bola Tinubu.

He stated, “The 99th National Executive Committee meeting of our party was duly convened on the 27th of May, 2025. Prior to that, there were so many activities relating to that meeting, and there were naysayers, it would not hold, it would hold—but ultimately, it held.

“It signposts the resilience, the capacity, and the orderliness for which the PDP is known, its capacities to activate, at the appropriate time, its organs and, in line with its constitution, to look at the processes and ensure that the will of the party continues to move smoothly.

“We had challenges, no doubt, but the successful convening of the meeting and the fact that the atmosphere at the meeting came out to show the capacity of this party to come together and be unified. So, we are united.”

Ologunagba said the 2027 election will be a referendum on the APC’s failures, including insecurity and lack of basic amenities.

He added, “We have witnessed a lot of issues, from defection or no defection. We must emphasise that the election of 2027 is not going to be about defection.

“It’s going to be a referendum on the failure of the APC, the insecurity in the land, the lack of provision of amenities, and basic things for human existence, the fact that everyday Nigerians are losing their personality because of the misguided policies of the president.”

The party criticised Tinubu’s administration for its anti-people policies and emphasised the need for the PDP to unite around a common purpose.

He stated, “We have stated severally the need for a review of policy by a government, what the people are saying, you take a second look. When you do that, that is leadership, that is strength, not weakness. But the APC believes that when they make a decision, you either take it or leave it.

“People are complaining that they are dying by instalment. That life is coming to a halt, and the President and his team and his government are numb to that. In the last two years, over 600 Nigerians have been killed, it’s on record.

“Then you see this government, celebrating defection as if it’s celebrating a successful implementation of policies. So it’s a government that believes in propaganda. Propaganda does not replace hunger. Propaganda does not replace the commitment of the people and their belief in their God.

“The question that every Nigerian is asking today: Am I better two years ago than I am right now? The answer is obvious, and we are all in the same market.

“You could talk about money, about devaluation, which renders whatever you are earning, and takes you below the poverty line. Today, by world record, or by world reports, over 100 million Nigerians survive on $2 a day.”

Ologunagba disclosed that the PDP leaders are continuing discussions to resolve remaining outstanding issues.

He continued, “That’s why it is important for our party to come together, which we are doing. We’re having conversations at different levels, and the next outcome is a demonstration of the success of those actions behind the scenes.

“So we just want to let you know that we’re on course, working assiduously towards a successful national executive, national working committee, and the national convention that will produce a new working committee for the party. And we’re determined to galvanise Nigeria on the need to sustain this democracy. So that’s the conversation, and then alternative views and ideas can be put on the table for Nigerian people to determine.”

I will say it for the umpteenth time: the only hope Tinubu has in 2027 is the inability of the oppositions to form a strong coalition.

If the opposition eventually succeeds in forming a united coalition, I am 1000% sure Tinubu will lose in 2027!

Re: 2027 Will Be Referendum On APC’s Failure – PDP by jamuta(m):
It's not impossible—especially if urgent electoral reforms are implemented. In fact, the coming years will serve as a referendum of some sorts: shall Nigeria remain one indivisible entity, or will we witness the unravelling of a nation long held together by thin threads?

Never in the history of Nigeria have we faced such simultaneous, multi-dimensional crises: economic stagnation, widespread insecurity, ethnic and religious tensions, institutional decay, and massive youth disillusionment. By all definitions—according to the Heidelberg Institute for International Conflict Research and metrics from the Council on Foreign Relations’ Global Conflict Tracker—Nigeria is on the edge of a low-grade civil war, particularly in the North-East, North-West, and Middle Belt regions.

Yet, Nigeria is not without hope.

Compared to Burkina Faso, for instance—a nation also grappling with insecurity and political instability—Nigeria possesses vastly superior natural and human resources. Nigeria is Africa's most populous nation with over 220 million people, it has the largest GDP on the continent (over $460 billion in 2023 according to the World Bank), and is blessed with over 37 billion barrels of crude oil reserves, 44 solid minerals, 34 million hectares of arable land, and one of the youngest, most dynamic populations in the whole world--with a median age of 18.

But resources are not destiny. Vision is. Leadership is. Humanity is.

Without purposeful and compassionate leadership—like that seen during the Murtala/Obasanjo transition or the dynamic economic team under President Obasanjo in the early 2000s—we are doomed to repeat our cycles of failure. Nigeria’s problem is not scarcity, but sabotage. Not ignorance, but impunity. We’ve been ruled too long by men who act more like oligarchs than statesmen, more like conquerors than servants of the people, that's why they're celebrating defections.

History teaches us that nations can rise from the ashes. Rwanda, was torn apart by genocide in 1994, has now transformed through tough reforms and national healing. Ghana, once economically crippled in the 1980s, rose through democratic strengthening and institutional rebirth.

Nigeria too shall rise. 🙏🏾

With electoral integrity, national consensus, massive youth mobilization, and a return to African-centered, people-first leadership, Nigeria will be great again.

What is the Supreme Court of Nigeria Afraid of exactly?

As of June 4, 2025, the supreme court of Nigeria has not yet scheduled a hearing date for the case filed by 11 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors challenging the federal government's declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. The case, registered as SC/CV/329/2025, was expected to be addressed after the court's Easter recess, which concluded at the end of April.

The lawsuit contests President Bola Tinubu's March 18 declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State, which involved suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all members of the State House of Assembly for six months. Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas was appointed as the Sole Administrator during this period. The PDP governors argue that these actions exceed the President's constitutional powers and undermine democratic federalism.

Despite the urgency of the matter, the supreme court has yet to fix a hearing date, leading to criticism from civil rights groups like the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), which accuses the court of stalling proceedings on this critical constitutional issue.
