Hello everyone, I’m filling out my DS-160 and I'll really need your input. I’ve been an operations manager for the past year, but I have a BSc in Physiology and some earlier health-related experience. Since I’m applying for a Master’s in Kinesiology and Sport Performance, do you think listing my current job might cause issues at the visa interview? I don’t really have a more recent health-related role to put instead.

Hello.

Even if you have had a BA in Igbo language and works as an operation manager no consular officer will query you on that. Going through University alone have made you qualified to work in all fields.

If you dont list your current field do you want to lie on your ds-160 that you have being working at the orthopaedic hospital or national aerobics center all because your fist degree is physiology?

** If you are currently a pollice officer list it in your ds-160 . You are ready to go back to your track hence your decision to apply for Msc in Kinesiology which is in tandem with your Bsc in Physiology (this alignment is what you need) . 👍

Ok what if there is no scholarship and yet you have all the funds of your COA on your personal bank statement. Won’t that pass?

Is there anyone with concrete information about when possible the appointment dates will be opened. There seems to be a lot of speculations online no one knows which is true or not and for those who are to resume in fall and yet haven’t even booked an appointment yet .

Where are you having your interview is it in Lagos? And are you fully funded? Or using personal or/and family funds?

I asked the above just to get your context more.

Here's my advice:
Prepare to show your commitment/non-immigration intent early in your interview. Unlike many mock sessions, the VOs in the Lagos embassy are recently not been direct with their questions on post-study plans or even home ties (noticed this in my case).

If you're asked any questions on:

What will this program do for you?
Why are you going back to school now/for a Master's now?
What do you need this program for?
(These questions are to check your post study plans and home ties). Your responses must demonstrate them.

You can follow a method of very direct and straightforward point/sentence then expatiate/expound on it later.

This is what I mean: put your strongest points FIRST. Be calm, don't rush! Practice over and over. For Abuja, some of the approval/AP transcripts I have seen, the questions on post study plans were direct. But for Lagos, it's different. Ensure your strongest points comes first and explain further if you have the time.

DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF ASSUMING THE VO WILL DEFINITELY ASK YOU QUESTIONS IN A PARTICULAR FORMAT, then delay your nonimmigrant intentions responses to a particular time waiting for the question that will allow you say those responses( I hope you get this). Show home ties, professional commitments and nonprofessional engagements if you have as soon as you're able to.

Here are some practice questions to help:

How many schools did you apply to?

Why this program?

What year did you graduate?

Why this course?

Who is funding this trip?

How did you get this assistantship?

Why this school?

How did you find about the school?

What will this program do for you?

What do you need this program for?

Why are you going back to school now?

What's your plan after this program?

PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE in a naturally flowing format. Don't cram. Have a simple and
believable story behind your purpose, plans and what the degree will do for you in Nigeria.

I wish you all the best and I pray you get your approval on a FIRST ATTEMPT. This is now crucial because of the pause of new appointments for F-1 interviews. A denial will be too hurtful.
Thank you so much for this. My interview is in Lagos and my program is funded

Hello good people:
Please I need your help 🙏🏻
My B1/b2 visa was denied yesterday on the grounds of 214b.
For context, I got a fellowship and scheduled to attend a 1 week leadership training in America after which I am to come back and continue with work.

INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT
VO- why do you wanna go to the US
Me: to attend a leadership training at newyork. One of the 20 young change makers selected for this.
VO: have you attended trainings like this before
Me: I goofed. I continued tapping about this particular training ( 😞I was overwhelmed with nerves)
VO: How much do you earn
Me: I answered and gave him my payslip and bank statement which he looked at.
VO: have you traveled before
Me: I listed the countries and he checked my passport for the visas et al.
VO: are you married, do you stay alone and do you own the property where you stay
Me: no. Yes and I rent the property, on a 3 years lease.

Long story short I was rejected. I WANT TO REAPPLY LIKE TODAY BECAUSE WHAT I AM GOING FOR IS VERY GOOD FOR MY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. I DO HAVE A GOOD LIFE HERE IN NIGERIA, but I guess I wasn’t able to articulate myself properly.

So my question is DO I HAVE A CHANCE IF I REAPPLY IMMEDIATELY because the conference is 1 month away and what can I do differently?

🙏🏻

Hello.

YOU.
For context, I got a fellowship and scheduled to attend a 1 week leadership training in America after which I am to come back and continue with work.

*** There are thousands of fellowships in America and they have ratings and accreditations. Individual beneficiaries outside of america must also proof some feats. For example you cannot compare Havard or Cambridge fellowships to NAMTA fellowship. There re also medical fellowships etc. Therefore, your B1 visa application based on fellowship is subject to rigorous vetting.

***. I Caught you openly here, and i also want to opine that this is one of the reasons the consular denied you. Fine Fellowships are short term learning opportunities that will help you in developing yourself as a leader but its not for Personal aggrandizement. It should equip you with knowledge and the necessary practical experiences to drive positive changes in your society.. So are you driving yourself or your employer or other social organisation is driving you in order for you to yield a positive return ?

YOU.
So my question is DO I HAVE A CHANCE IF I REAPPLY IMMEDIATELY because the conference is 1 month away and what can I do differently?

*** Aside of the fact that you were not prepared verbally, this question also begs us to go back to your ds-160 which the consular has used against you. Prior to that time, everyone will only be striving after the wind. 👍

Hello thank you for your response. I am confused though with your response.
I am a Dalai Lama fellow which is quite a prestigious one. It’s hosted by university of Virginia. And yes learnings from this fellowship will drive positive change in my society. I am tadbit confused with your reference on my DS160. Indeed in retrospect I feel like I wasn’t ready verbally, but I want to do better that’s why I am here.

Hello.

Nothing is too special or prestigious about being a Dalai Lama fellow . It is just like being a Nelson Mandela or Abraham Lincoln fellow otherwise your visa would have been automatic.

The fellowship is open to all humanity in everywhere in the world. For example here is one of their Year 2025 applications.

https://www.dalailamafellows.com/apply#dl-fellowship

I am not disreputing your membership but I am trying to say that if your purpose of going is not well established it won't have any meaning to the U.S. embassy. Again, i cannot give accurate corrections to your kind of situation without knowing some of your backgrounds. People hide lots of things when asking questions. 👍

So what is it you wanna know??

I am not comfortable with your sarcastic innuendos. I mean we can have this conversation without you alluding things you know.

Thanks still

if you reapply immediately, they will ask you what has changed since your last interview, if nothing they will refuse you again

Hello guys, I am new here. Please, I am having an issue with this Avits calendar even before the new directive. The issue I’m experiencing is while trying to schedule my visa interview appointment. Although I have completed my payment and selected a delivery option,
The calendar interface on the scheduling page is unresponsive. I cannot click to navigate to upcoming months (e.g., June or July) to view available dates. The system seems to be returning an error indicating there are no available dates for my selected location( note i had to swtich from lagos to abuja and non of these location seem open at all) , but the main issue is that the calendar is not clickable at all, preventing me from checking future availability or proceeding with my scheduling. i have raised countless tickets, and it seems it is a bot that is replying to me. Is there anybody experiencing this issue, or experienced and how was it sorted? Thank you all

Hi Comfort Owolabi,

I think the message is very clear in your screenshot "there are no appointments for the selected location".

An F1 visa was issued, and this sticker was then attached to the passport. Could someone help explain what it means?
