So,what was his Contributions to Nigeria Development?
This is one of the Northern appointment's - to occupy the Nigeria trajectory and nothing more!

You mean he ordered all universities in Southern Nigeria shut just like that?
He superintended over a period of crisis in Southern universities and he was not bothered. He owned an oil well as well.

Death go touch everybody, after that then judgment. Earthly wealth or influence won’t matter when you are face to face with your creator. People this days are so intoxicated with earthly pleasures that there forget the main examination of why we are here. Unlike typical examination there is no carry over or do over. Your result is instant.

Smh.. I wish you could write same about late Prof. Olikoye Ransome-Kuti who wrecked our health system and created the problem we are still struggling to solve in Nigeria’s health system till date.
This is the most stupid statement I have read this year.

Olikoye Ransome Kuti's EPI program brought down maternal and child mortality to the point where as at when he was leaving after spending 8 years in office (the only minister Babangida did not change), Nigeria had the 2nd lowest maternal and child mortality rates in the world.

Take that to the bank anywhere, anytime. Olikoye Ransome Kuti was a legend and globally recognized icon.

Many, if not all of the guys engaging you on your earlier comments are too young to know what you're talking about. Yet inferiority complex would not allow them to rest where and when they see someone with superior knowledge. I guess that's how Nairaland will remain until something is done about it's facelessness.
Leave them

This is along with the likes of Ango Abdullahi one of those who worked to cement the idea of born to rule in the late 80s and 90s

They treated the South with Contempt

We remember how a well respected professor Tam David West was humiliated in the same role as Minister of Petoleum because he accepted a Wrist watch Gift allegedly. Coincidentally he was from the same Niger Delta where the oil flowed from. He was arrested and convicted but later cleared

Aminu later became Minister of Petroleum and they would like us to believe he was so clean he never took anything as big as a wrist watch

But it is widely reported over 80% of oil blocks were given to Northerners under his watch

How did he wreck our health system? can you give one or two metrics please

I do not see why there is a need for such comparison and the only rationale is clearly deflection and Tribal , very base but I will indulge you so kindly enlighten us about Olikoye Ransome Kuti

Kuti was not the Minister of Education so I do not see a basis for bringing that to this thread or how it is relevant other than inferiority complex

I will gladly discuss that with you if you can open another thread so we do not derail this one about Aminu who also was Minister of Petroleum and we shall get to discuss his shenanigans in that role as well
That fellow's head is filled with akamu. He knows nothing.

I tell you.

A doctor who never became minister of health.

But he was very brilliant.

He was the first person to have distinction in Anatomy, physiology and biochemistry at MBBS part 1 exam at the University of Ibadan.

No U.I medical student will not have heard his story at one point in time at preclinicals

That is what we shall remember him for
Stop explaining anything to those guys above. What you pointed were the things Prof. Aminu did. He was too sentimental in his approach, if you were opportuned to listen to some of his comments. The other Minister of Education, Professor somebody Liman, I have forgotten his first name, came and messed up everything to the extent that he made comments about Southern Nigeria having a "mad" rush for Western Education. There are some comments unbeffiting of a serving Minister

Jubril Aminu was a distinguished gentleman. Politics is difficult and there are many layers to it especially if you are not the one directly calling the shots. In all We celebrate him for his good work and may the Almighty forgive all his short comings. Adieu

The man that wanted to bridge the educational gap between the North and South mechanically-either stopping educational activities in the South for a number of years or collapsing all universities into 6(six) and as attempted by Sani Abacha.

be good in life.

aribisala0:
He was Minister of Education that closed most universities in the South of Nigeria for 5 months in 1989 and was happy for that to be 12 months because of protest. Maybe he believed that would help the North catch up

In everything he was an enemy to southern Nigeria

This was actually done by IBB. He is pan-Nigeria. He even schooled in Southern Nigeria.

Baba's service in military government was what actually diminished him.

He was absolutely brilliant and distinguished till his service in IBB's administration messed up his distinguished public service career.
He was once touted as a Presidential choice at some point until his record of serving military messed it up. He was actually a good man in my estimation.
I recollect the anecdote told about a young cattle herder who usually does hang around a public school.
He would always pick interest in a particular class and would peeping from outside through the windows, solve some of the arithmetic problems on the earth...

A particular fellow (I think a missionary) once picked interest in this cattle boy and found him a piece of intellectual potential.

Fast fwd when the herder boy would sit his final exams after being enrolled in the mainstream school system, he was reputed to have answered the compulsory 4 out of 6 questions, ruled a line at the bottom of his work, solved out the remaining 2 questions and noted with an asterisk *For further knowledge purpose*...
