kabe1:This is the reason I initially wanted to avoid this debate. When you do not read my comments, how can we have a conversation? I don't like to spend minutes typing only for someone to give a response that shows he skimmed through the whole thing. |

kabe1:"what do you mean" (wdym) Point about the tonnage is that NN has 30k+ personnel, yet it is not enough for deployment nor justified by the tonnage. Finally, I worked in 6 Div throughout my service year. It is under strength. As at 2016— the last time I had anything to do with 81 Div Lagos, it's Battalions were in far-flung Adamawa. Now, this is the sum of my point concerning them; NA is in the best position to ramp up numbers and focus on amphibious operations further inland (Benue, Kogi and the Niger delta). I am totally for a Marine Corp that will take over the day-day patrol of Lake Chad or even the Niger Delta. But when you have the CNS talking like he wants men to send to Zamfara or the next consequence of bad governance, I object. At best NN can provide & maintain a brigade strength Marine corps, but that makes no difference to the manpower on ground if the focus is inland. |

Odunayaw:Let me surprise you, a lot of these guys are not serving under your naval command. Many have been contracted out to private security companies that have taken over patrol from your navy, due to the latter's lack of resources to handle the fragile security situation there. I'm not even going to debate this with anyone here. You can either believe it or you leave it. Anyways let me leave the keyboard general to continue his Marine corps fantasy. |

Faithful007:I don't have any information about that though, you can share what you have. Anyway, the navy marines thing is not a fantasy. It seems the ship has sailed. One can only hope it's steered in the right direction. |

The F-7NI has been service with the Nigerian Air Force for the past 22 years. The Aircrafts have recently under-gone a Mid-life Upgrade. Primarily used as an interceptor, the aircraft also conducts Air Interdiction and CAP.

Lurker4Long:It’s recent. State Department has announced that neither Trump nor Rubio will attend the main G20 summit in November. Going to the white house was a mistake. Your government could have ignored him and allow feel the need to prove a point by visiting South Africa. That’s Trump logic. |

When the Nigerian Air Force ordered the F-7NI in 2005, they were meant to be a stop gap, that was 20 years ago. While the F-7NI recently completed deep Mid-life upgrades (MLU) in 2022, it's glory days are well behind us. The Nigerian ordered 3 x JF-17s to complement the F-7's and have now opted for 24 x M346FA to perform it's multi role functions. This leaves us lacking in Air guard, Air Policing and Air Defence. The Air Force recognizes their's an Air Defence gap to fill, for this reason they have now launched an Air Defence Tender competition. Leonardo,Indra, Norinco, and Rheinmetall are participating, you can read more here. https://www.military.africa/2025/06/four-companies-compete-for-nigerian-military-air-defence-and-radar-contract/ However this is for Ground Based Air Defence Systems. It seems as though we will be stuck with the F-7NI & JF-17 for another 15 years at least. The J-10CE has recently proven it's capabilities in combat and the program is 40 years old. A mature aircraft we can consider to replace the F-7 when the time finally arrives.
