Hello Everyone,

I have Bsc. Microbiology, PGD. Computer science
Been working in a financial institution but in the IT department for 10+ years.
I am currently the head of the support team for 3 years now
I have Microsoft certifications (Solutions Architect)

While my husband already has Bsc and Masters degree. He is currently an Executive Director in an oil and Gas company. He does not want to migrate just the ability to visit/holidays.

The course i applied to is MSC. Cybersecurity in a University(US)

Both my husband and child were included in my i-20. Complete sponsorship by my husband and we selected family sponsorship. We are using investment he made which credited to my account and the deficit is also in his account. We have the certificate of investment.

I have a sibling in US and he is legally there. Also, i was denied Canadian visa a couple of months ago due to the agent mistake in not including the US visa denial, i had 15 years ago.

Please, i need advise on how to proceed on this and the documents that might be important to present for the interview as i have a scheduled date already.
Thank you.

Hello.
Both you and your husband have some better academic and work profiles but the U.S. embassy doesn't respect anybody when it comes to abiding to the rule of entries (visa) because you are already making some foundational error.

*** Your U.S visa denial of 15 years ago must always be put into affirmative, for example, if they asked you in 100 years to come have you been denied a U.S. visa b4 the answer is yes. Hence the Canadian High Commission rejected your visa (perhaps after investigating your U.S. visa denial) based on misrepresentation.

*** Coming back to USA your family visa is now facing a double whammy because the Canada visa denial is another brick wall to jump. ** The summary of this aspect is that you have already been annotated as an immigrant intent who is eager to enter North America (US/Canada) by all means.

*** In terms of F1 visa application rudiments, an Msc F1 visa applicant is not even supposed to apply at a go with his or her whole nuclear family because those are your first and most important ties . Had it been that you are a Phd applicant whose duration of studentship can take longer years than expected then you would have gained a nod in taking your family along.

Having analyzed your application profile which i am rating 35/100%. The number one tool for you to gain coin is how well you have filled your visa applications (ds-160s). And the number two tool is how well you will communicate your case with the visa officer (esp the principal applicant). The 3rd major hurdle to jump is how do you proof abstract ties to Nigeria as all the nuclear - family are now going over ?

Good afternoon, congratulations, please how did you go about getting an interview date

Hayormide212:
Let me Put this to Encourage someone!! ©️Moshkom.

✅ VISA APPROVED (Direct Approval)
📍 Lagos Embassy
🗓️ 13/05/2025
🪟 Window 3
🎯 First Attempt
💰 COA: $57,555
🎓 Funding: Fully Funded
📉 Deficit: $0
📚 PhD in Physics
🏫 University of Florida

My interview lasted for about 12 minutes.

I want Thank God first for this Journey.

My interview was scheduled 8am but I got to the embassy by 6:45am I knew where to go to because I visited there a day B4. Before I was interviewed a lot of blues were seen flying.. I just want to say this *Please do not CRAM* just know your story

Interview proper

Vo: pass me your i-20 and you passport please.

Me: here U go, good morning sir (with a smile)

Vo: what do U want to do in the US?

Me: I am going for my PhD program in physics with a concentration in computational physics at the University of Florida (I stuttered in the first three words).

Vo: how many schools did you apply to?

Me: I applied to three schools, University of Florida, University of Pittsburgh, University of Alabama....(he didn't let me to continue be asking..)

Vo: so why this school?

Me: I choose University of Florida because of the perfect alignment of my interest with prof Bleep whose research focuses on the use of computational techniques such as DFT calculations and ML simulations to understand the properties of materials.. this research is relevant for me to address the limitations in using and relying on only traditional experimental methods for research in Nigeria

Vo: so how's that? (I was very confused with this question but this point he was staring at me.. so I figured he wanted to know what areas computational techniques could address this limitations)

Me: In my recent research on synthesis of copper antimony sulfide nano crystals where I worked as a research assistant......we needed to substitute different hilides to form halogen with sulfur, we could do that with experimental methods which would take a lot of... But material studio a computational tool could do that and simulate results in hours... (he nodded, I guessed he was pleased)

Vo: (looks at my I20 )how will you be funding this program?

Me: I got a graduate teaching assistantship which covers my tuition, living expenses and health insurance and I got this by submitting a competitive (I didn't want to say this word at first but it came out anyway) application consisting of my transcript which reflects my strong academic background where I graduated at the top of my class with a CGPA of Bleep, my statement of purpose, 3 letters of recommendation from my undergraduate professors and I was invited for an interview by prof Bleep my graduate coordinator and prof Bleep, where I elaborated how my research aligned with prof Bleep and why I choose this school (At this point he was typing really fast, and there was this little silence so I asked)

Me: can I Tell you about my research (even though I knew I have said it a lot of times b4)

Vo: No it's fine.(After some time)

Vo: so what will you be doing after graduation?

Me: Immediately after my graduation I will be coming back to my Alma mata federal university of technology where I currently work as a graduate research assistant to take up a senior researcher role which will position me to train teach and educate young scientist in the use of computational techniques as a substitute to experimental methods, I will.....vo cuts in

Vo: slow down...(With a smile)

Vo: have you been to Gaza before?

Me: No officer, I have not (me too with a smile)

Vo: Alright, I will be approving Ur visa, this paper will tell U how to collect Ur passport.... (I no hear anything again)

I took the paper and ran 😂😂 before they call me back, because this person had denied about 18 persons B4 me. All my time in the consulate I only saw him giving one approval.

And to God.... Thank you Jesus 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Good afternoon, everyone.

Please I have a question regarding DS-160 application form. After filling the form, I saved them on my phone, but unfortunately, some parts of it were not properly saved. Although, I can remember most of the things I filled there. Also, I only added my LinkedIn and Instagram handle to the social media section.

In light of the new development regarding social media scrutiny, is it advisable I fill another one to include my Twitter and Facebook handles and that would also help me to meticulously save it this time around, or should I just leave it like that? Does filling another DS 160 form has any negative effect on one's application?

Thank you very much.

Hello Lanre.
If you feel the need to fill another ds-160 based on the fact that you want to add an important update about your profile you may go ahead. You can fill as many ds 160s as you want but your final pick must be updated to align with your visa appointment letter via your avits profile.

I don't think the U.S embassy has compulsory the use of social media for all visa applicants therefore, visa applicants who doesn't use social media at all will still have a successful visa process.

If you have anything you want the U.S embassy to see in your Twitter and Facebook accounts you can add it in your new ds-160. 👍

I think your profile is good enough, your highest qualification is PGD Computer Sci...so an MSc in Cybersecurity is a career progression. Cybersecurity is classified as a critical field by DHS so there would likely be a special consideration for approval if you own your story and be confident about it, be clear and detailed , avoid ambiguous or generic response.

Both my husband and child were included in my i-20.: this means an F2 I-20 for your husband and child. Your spouse an Executive Director in an oil and Gas company. He does not want to migrate just the ability to visit/holidays. If this is his true intention he would likely be refused an F2 visa because F2 is a long term visa not for short visit. B1/B2 visa is the appropriate class.

Since you have a visa date already, it means you have a confirmed DS-160 on file and i hope each alphabets used project your strenght because if your DS-160 content is below expectation, VO could misinterpret your intention. Be ready for a "technical interview" on your proposed endeavor (Cybersecurity) ..this is a new update! Be truthful and dont hide any details about your circumstances.

The documents expected from you are listed in the print out of your appointment or addendum on your DS-160 print out, nothing more, if your gut feelings tell you to include certain documents ...take it along to your interview. Best of luck!

Me: yes, it is.
VO: So where are you going ?
Me: I’m going to West Chester university of Pennsylvania for my master degree in geology where I would be working(Cuts me off).

VO: I really can’t hear what you’re saying and you’re talking too fast, I understand that you have memorized your scripted answers. So talk to me like a normal conversation. she started going through my I-20

Me: sorry about that. I’m going to cut me again

VO: what would this program do for you ?

Me: After the completion of my degree program, I plan to return back to my home country Nigeria to take a senior role at *VO cuts me *

VO: You keep on starting with “After the completion of my program” because you have memorized your answers. Just tell me something different. Everyone come with scripted answers all the time. I keep on listening to the Same thing all day. (she stared at my I-20 again)

VO: why is your funding so small? This is a graduate assistantship, it should cover the whole cost of attendance. Most assistantship have seen are always fully funded.

Me: it’s a partial assistantship I received from my supervisor that covers part of tuition and living expenses. cuts me off again

VO: why is it separated? ( meanwhile the funding was separated as Grad assistantship and campus employment).

VO: what is the name of the school( while she’s typing and looking her screen)

Me: university of Madrid.

VO: what program?

Me: Masters in Business administration.

VO: How many years is your program. ( she was literally staring to my eyes at this point)

Me: 2 years. It’s a masters program.

VO: what’s your Bachelor’s degree?

Me: Geology.

VO: she started typing. ( there was a silence for some time).

Me: Do you want me to tell you about my post study plan?

VO: Don’t bother about that. I don’t want you to give me any scripted answers again like you all come here to do. I have all what I need. I would be approving your Visa. She passed the white paper.
this document will tell you how to receive the passport. Please note you can only enter the US, 30 days to the start of your program.

Me: 😁 Thank you.

Pray, pray, and please don’t memorize your answers just know your main story and point.

Thank you.

They might, not be writing word for word, just their thought on your response.

COPIED
Embassy: Abuja Embassy
First Attempt
School: East Tennessee State University
COA: $42K
Deficit: $6,720
Course: Masters in Computer and Information Science
Window: 11

Honestly it was just God who intervened for me.
I wanted to get my i20 on time, to be able to secure a visa appointment date.
So before I got my i20, I submitted my uncles bank statement , because it was such a hassle getting my mums own from the bank. So I used my uncles own, because I “heard” I could always update it.
But that wasn’t the case for me. I reached out to the International Students Representative, asking if I could update my i20, but she declined severally.

It was a concern, but I had to go with what I had.

Interview proper

I was the first to be interviewed by the VO this morning. So he was on his feet the whole time.

Interview:
VO: Good morning, your documents

Me: Here they are please

Passed it to him and then he asked me to excuse him for a minute. 1 minute turned to 5 minutes. But I didn’t complain atall. I needed the time to loosen up a little bit

Interview:

VO: where are you going in the US

Me: I am going to East Tennessee State University for a Masters degree in Computer and Information Science, focusing on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. I will also be working with Prof. ****** on Developing AI powered natural language processing solutions for software applications.

VO: Are you married?
Me: No I’m not

VO: Any kids?
Me: Nope.

VO: You have a COA of $42k. How will you be funding that?
Me: I have a GA that covers my tuition in full and 70% of my living expenses. (As I talked, he looked through to confirm). My Uncle, Mr. *****, will be covering my deficit. (I wanted to go in and explain he didn’t let me)

VO: Do you have a bank statement? Because a lot of people come here saying a relative is sponsoring, but it’s always a lie.
Me: Oh, ofcourse I do. (I passed it, then he asked for another minute. He took the bank statement somewhere then came back after a minute or so and said everything looked good)

VO: Have you been to the US before?
Me: No, not the US, but I’ve been to other countries.

VO: Can you mention?
Me: I mentioned a long list.

VO: Do you have relatives in the US?
Me: No I don’t

VO: (Repeated the same question of where I’ve traveled to) Which countries have you been to again?
Me: I repeated again, in the exact same order lol.

VO: How many siblings do you have?
Me: I have just a sister

VO: What do your parents do
Me: I told him

VO: What will you be doing after this degree?
Me: Firstly, I would be rejoining my team at ******, as the lead AI/ML Engineer where we would be kickstarting the integration of AI and machine learning into our software solutions. The skills I am going to gain in Deep learning frameworks and Natural Language Processing would be a game changer in helping us take on more ambitious projects. Secondly, I would be devoting more time to my baby, it’s a blockchain startup. My vision is to make use of AI to automate compliance and regulatory tasks, tackling pressing issues like money laundering.

VO: Ambitious
Me: (while smiling)You can say that

VO: You can’t enter the United States until 30 days before resumption….. Ah I didn’t hear anything again for real!!!

It was after he said this that I noticed he was even wearing a Man City Tag. After he gave me my white paper, I said “God bless you and up Man City!”. We both laughed and I left.

God is so good and he keeps his promises. I’m grateful to my support system fr!! I can’t over emphasize this. You really can’t embark on this journey alone. And I’m glad God placed people in my life to help.
