Ghana’s Cedi Is Stronger Than The Naira – Here’s The GOLDEN Reason Why by Oreoluwa1996(op): 10:03am On Jun 07, 2025
So the former No. 4 citizen of Nigeria, Yakubu “No Results” Dogara, has suddenly discovered that the North ruled for 40 years with nothing to show?

Wow.
Incredible epiphany — after decades of benefiting from the exact system he’s now condemning.

Let’s be clear:

🔹 This is the same Dogara who held the Speaker’s gavel in a National Assembly that rubber-stamped mediocrity and watched Nigeria hemorrhage.

🔹 He sat pretty while the bandit economy flourished and Nigeria's solid minerals were smuggled out in broad daylight.

🔹 When mining licenses were sold like groundnuts and gold from Zamfara flew out of the country without adding one kobo to IGR, where was Dogara’s voice?

🔹 For 40 years, the North dominated federal leadership and sucked national wealth dry, yet many Northern states today can't match the IGR of Lagos alone.
That’s not just a tragedy, it’s a calculated betrayal.

Now he wants to pretend he’s a commentator?
Nah, sir.
You were a foreman on the sinking ship, not a bystander.

Meanwhile:

🇬🇭 Ghana, despite its smaller size, figured out how to harness gold to prop up the cedi.

🇳🇬 Nigeria, with more gold than Ghana, is stuck in the bandit-benefactor loop, where powerful elites prefer illegal mining to institutional progress.

But there's hope.
Real reforms have begun, and they’re uncomfortable—not for the masses, but for entitled elites like Dogara who want the old rent-collector Nigeria back.

This new wave under Tinubu is calling bluff and blood, and it’s no country for freeloaders.

The Ghanaian Cedi is being strengthened with Gold, we literally have more Gold than Ghana; but Bandits have been in charge of it for decades.

Some States in Nigeria are bigger than Ghana, you are not being fair to Ghana, it is a small place that would have been turned to paradise from the days of Gold Coasts.

Let Nigeria use oil to strengthen Naira. Bandits are not in charge of it.

Ghana has more gold reserve than Nigeria...

Ghana has a very high gold deposit and is one of the largest producers of gold in the world.

Nigeria has gold deposits but not in comparison with Ghana. It's mostly an unexplored or under explored sector mostly left to illegal miners.

The recent strengthening of the cedis is as a result of increased prices in gold and Cocoa which are the major commodities that generate revenue for their economy!

While the post did actually say a lot of truths, the statement of the reforms not being uncomfortable for the masses or that it is dealing with powerful elites, is very untrue.

Real socio-economic reforms and re-engineering should have started from the political elites.

For instance, scrap constituency and security votes. That would touch the political office holders more than the masses. Let the politicians also make sacrifices.

Go after the economic saboteurs... the subsidy and forex cabals. Let them pay for the damage they have caused the economy rather than taking a coward's route of shifting the burden on the masses because they are easier to manipulate.

Look at major contracts awarded under bat. In terms of financial volume, 75% are to his cronies.

The reality is that BAT is simply entrenching himself and cronies within the levers of political and economic power.

Economic illiterates writing sensational rubbish up and down.

Even Ghanaian government cannot make this claim that the cedi is stronger than the naira.
You all have no idea how things work but will just write nonsense for the sake of it.

Lol, the self-proclaimed economist has arrived.

Armed with vibes, powered by pride, and held together by misinformation.

First of all, no one claimed the cedi was stronger than the naira just to flex — it was based on basic exchange rate data.
...but you wouldn’t know that because your understanding of economics begins and ends with volume.

You scream ‘economic illiterates’ while failing to grasp that currency strength isn’t about what a government claims, but what markets reflect.

The Ghanaian government doesn’t have to ‘claim’ anything — the rates are public.

Google it.

Unless, of course, you think Bloomberg is also writing ‘sensational rubbish’.

And let’s be honest — you didn’t come to correct, you came to condescend.
Sadly, your tone is louder than your logic.

So next time, try facts before insults.

Because right now, all we see is noise wrapped in overconfidence. #Shalom

See someone confidently displaying ignorance online.
Ghana only redenominated their currency because it was so worthless. They removed 4 zeros from it in 2007. Basically when u see 1 cedis, it's actually 10000 cedis in the real sense. Even at that, naira still has better purchasing power.

Nonsense talk Nigeria Naira is thoroughly devalued because of bad govt policies ...You increase energy cost by 600 percent and you want Naira to have value ?

Lol, You know what’s wild?

Watching someone confidently explain half-baked history like it’s breaking news.

Yes, Ghana redenominated their currency in 2007 — not because it was 'worthless', but to simplify transactions and restore confidence after prolonged inflation.
A common, strategic economic move — Turkey did it, Zimbabwe did it, France did it.

But you?
You’re still stuck on Wikipedia drafts from 2009, quoting old rates like a retired cashier.!

This whole ‘1 cedi is actually 10,000 old cedis’ thing?
Tired.!
That was about 16-17 years ago.

That’s like shouting '₦1 = 100 Kobo' and acting like you discovered oil.

Move on. Time did.!

And purchasing power?
Please, It’s not about what the number looks like — it’s about what it can buy today.
You’re not talking economics; you’re reciting trauma from your SS2 Commerce textbook.
(FYI: it's literally cheaper for a Ghanaian to run Online Adverts that require Dollar)

But let’s talk about why Nigeria never pulled a Ghana-style redenomination:
Because too many pension-stealing patriots — including your beloved Atiku and his fellow hoarders — have illegal cash stashed in ceilings, soakaways, and private mosques.

If we redenominated, their billions would shrink faster than their electoral relevance.

They didn’t block it for your sake — they blocked it to protect their loot.
Because in a Nigeria with honest currency reform, half your political idols would need GoFundMe to buy suya.

So before you come online swinging misinformation like a cutlass, try reading — or better yet, thinking.
Because right now, you’re just loud, wrong, and stuck in 2007 — like Windows XP with a cracked screen. #Shalom

Mr Bloomberg, kindly indulge my naivety.

What exactly is the economic strength of the cedi that makes it stronger than the naira? Someone corrected you up there about their currency being artificially revalued and you're still arguing that, it's crazy someone can be loud and wrong at the same time. As soon as I saw your response to that person, I knew my time was being wasted on someone like you. Agenda must agend even if the premises don't make any sense.

Mr professor... A currency can be 1kobo to 1 million naira but if the purchasing strength of the currency does not reflect that same thing, then something is wrong some where. Read more, understand better and stop screaming so loud ignorantly everywhere doing la cram, la pour.
