It's an industry that preys on Africa's poor: a trade that turns human organs into commodities. So-called transplant tourism sees wealthy foreigners who are in dire need of a new kidney travel from across the world to western Kenya - where local men are persuaded to sell theirs for less than two thousand pounds.

Our Africa Correspondent Jamal Osman has been to the city of Eldoret, now a global hub for the organ trade to see its impact first-hand, and challenge those responsible.

If a person knows what they are doing and wants to sell their kidney to make life better, maybe the problem is not them, but the world that gives them no other choice.

What is going on?
This is becoming annoying

How is it that we reduce ourselves to subhumans by such insensitive actions against ourselves?

Why is it not the whites or whatever that are selling their kidneys, why must be us?
Shame.

You think the entire ritual/kidnapping craze in Nigeria is not about the same illegal harvesting of organs for sale? Your very own President , along with Minister of Health celebrated the success of 13 Kidney transplants in Nigeria for Western clients not too long ago, and I can bet you those Nigerians--- whether in the North, South West, South South or South East ---who sold off their kidneys off are not wallowing in luxury. undecided

If care is not taken, heart transplants from live sellers will not be far off. undecided

Really? Your president came to reduce the purchasing power of the masses plunging 10s of millions below the poverty line though. And the country is only in the second year of his scheme with no end in sight still. lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

Nigeria's socio-economic challenges are pushing many young, able-bodied men to sell their kidneys without minding the long-term repercussions. One million naira is the 'official' price for a kidney in Abuja's black market of organ trade.

In this documentary, Trust TV provides insights into the shadow economy of illegal kidney trade that may have thrived for many years out of public sight.

Well, it ain't about whether one likes him or not but the fact that he is the president. And that in turn means a hellish existence for 10s of millions including the rich who will likely become targets of the poor and hungry. undecided

I agree. For a while now ... I been saying this increased "ritual killings" is related to the selling if organs. Some hotels are fronts for organ harvesting from innocent victims. Some of our overnight billionaires I'm almost sure are involved in this. Some of our hospitals are most likely involved in this trade. Be very mindful of hospitals that are quick to recommend surgery for the slightest belly pain.... almost always .... appendicitis the cause ....appendix has to be removed. My question ...how do you know when they enter body they didn't remove a kidney instead? In the video ...we should pay attention to the scar ... we may know someone with a similar scar if the same method was used....but their reason for surgery is likely to be different.

This is very sad.
African poverty is largely based on lack of formal or informal education which breeds a lack of self awareness or situational perception. Poverty is not the curse . It is lack of knowledge. My people perish from lack of knowledge.

Omo yes . Hunger is bad yes..... But lack of education will always create poverty. We go to school in Nigeria but we remain uneducated. How can someone go to school and cannot find work ? Create your own job. I have so many jobs I do, I am the gate man, cleaner, gardener, bricklayer of my house. So much work to do I'm always working plus my fashion business.....I'm over employed

All of this. Africans remains the most ignorant. And the existence of religion --- particularly the 7th century focused religion of Islam --- as a tool of major manipulation and terrorism does not help the situation at all. 🥱🥱

Yes Sir you are spot on . Education is a huge problem in Africa. Despite going to school we are still highly uneducated. We treat schooling as a means to wealth acqusition instead of a means to enlightenment. It's amazing how Christians will carry Bible up and down go to church and never openthe bible till the next time they go to church. We seem to believe so much in " miracles ". Like all the people who do sports betting. They do not think off the long adds against winning buy an only see the imaginary millions. Our lack of reading is our major problem. I will not say Religion is a problem because I read my Bible like a book of science it has to make sense before I obey I'd put it down to a high rate of gullibility not knowing their Daddy Gu is just a mere man full of flaws, People trust pastors too much. Me I'm smart i haven't gone to church for 20 years. Look at all the money I have saved not paying tithe.
