Maryam Sani Abacha, the widow of late military Head of State General Sani Abacha, has defended her husband's legacy on the 27th anniversary of his passing.

The Former First Lady made an appearance on TVC's Politics on Sunday program on June 8.

During the program, the host asked her about the repatriation of funds stashed abroad by her late husband's administration

"And who is the witness of the monies that were being stashed?" Maryam Abacha retorted. "Did you see the signature or evidence of any money stashed abroad?"

She continued: "And the monies that my husband kept for Nigeria, in a few months, the monies vanished. People are not talking about that.

"Why are you blaming somebody for some.... Is that tribalism or religious programming, or what is the problem with Nigerians?

"I pray for Nigerians, I pray for all of us, I pray that we should have goodness in our hearts, we should stop telling lies and blaming people.

"Why are we so bad towards each other because somebody is a southerner, or somebody is a Muslim or Christian, somebody is nice... it's not fair."

She went on to tell the press that it is their job to "educate" the public and not to "bastardise" people.

She added: "People are not that bad. When things are happening we're not talking about it.

27 years ago and people are still asking about Abacha.

Abacha must be very powerful, Abacha must be very loved by all of you, by all of Nigerians, by all of us. We thank God for that.

The host mentioned that aspects of the economy were stronger during Abacha's administration, and Maryam Abacha seemed to agree.

"So where did he steal the money from? So where would he have stolen the money from?"

She asked. "If he kept the money..."

The host told her that previous administrations told Nigerians that Abacha stashed funds abroad, and Maryam Abacha replied: "And because Nigerians are fools they listen to everything.

"Babangida doesn't make Nigeria alone, Abacha does not make Nigeria alone, Abiola, everybody, nobody is big enough for Nigeria. We're all very important. Even the single man on the street is important. We're all human beings.

"For goodness sake, all this wahala should stop."

Ma, not all of us Nigerians are stupid enough to believe that Abacha was stashing money in the USA.
Some of us know the truth that all those millions of dollars that the USA has been claiming to return to Nigerian government were audio money. It never existed in the first place.

Any sensible Nigerian not living within the "disinformation space" would know that Abacha was not that dumb to not recognize the West as an enemy of Africa. During Abacha's regime, Nigeria was sanctioned heavily by the West just like the Russia of today, for daring to switch to military rule. They refused to buy our Crude oil and other exports, and they were after Abacha just like they are after the Burkina Faso leader today.
Won't a reasonable person now ask for a sensible explanation of why Abacha should then decide to stash his "loots" in the USA under such hostile treatments?

The reason the USA kept announcing newly discovered Abacha loots and the Nigerian government kept acknowledging the receipt of such audio money is because it is a mutually beneficial propaganda that killed 3 birds with a single stone:

1) It enforces the false notion that the USA is a Saint that wants to help Nigeria progress by helping to actively search their bank accounts for moneys looted by Nigerian leaders, and then returning such moneys to Nigeria when found,
2) It brainwashes Nigerians into detesting military rule since all the looted money that the USA has been recovering just happened to be from a military leader who is no longer alive (to tell his own side of the story),
3) Now that Nigerians believe the USA are Saints(point 1 above), and detest military rule(point 2 above), we will therefore have no choice than to accept the democracy that the USA and their western minions are shoving down our throat; a democracy that is simply the West installing a "Warrant Chief" cum President whose real duty is to govern Nigeria on behalf of Paris and London.
