Where are you getting your news from? Mall shopping is booming in America, Europe, India and China.

It's particularly big in Gulf Emirates like Dubai and Abu Dhabi because of duty free shopping.

The only place where it is not thriving is in the poorest countries on earth like Nigeria

Jakumo:
Shopping malls world wide are going the way of the phone booth and the VHS video machine. In other words, shopping malls are dying a natural death because the world is turning to online shopping and mail-order delivery.

Shoprite Nigeria is still the best place to meet hot single women, so I certainly hope that the franchise survives in the long term.

I have visited many ShopRite outlets in different locations in Nigeria I realized that it's no longer what it use to be, what's going on?
Competition got tougher.

Many other big stores are coming up and giving ShopRite a run for their money

Why are you so used to slavery? Shoprite a foriegn brand is going down, but have you seen how many Nigerian Stores are expanding? Stop using these guys as metrics for the growth of a nation, in actual fact, some of these other Nigerian owned malls have a good number of the things Shoprite sells.

The govt has delivered on the mandate to reduce the purchasing powers of the masses. Which can be a 2 edged sword

That means Jumia should be making more sales, right? Now go and check Jumia's sales volume in 2024/2025 vs. 2021/2022. 😂

Tinubu has destroyed Nigeria's economy while his goons are all over social media hailing him.
Don't blame Tinubu for Shoprite problems. A Nigerian bought shoprite from South Africans and it is obvious he cannot manage it well. Eleanor, Spars etc are doing well.

Shoprite is now owned by a Nigerian and obviously the new owner cannot manage it

Jumia may not because there is heavy competiton in that sector.
Many are making a killing marketing on tik-tok, facebook marketplace, jiji etc

Yes, most of their shelves are empty. Seems the black race is eternally destructive especially, West Africa and Nigeria in particular.

They cannot multiply anything. Firstly take a look at the government, they cannot get the POWER SECTOR sorted since independence! The blueprint of Nigeria since the military era have been wiped out by chronic corruption and rendered national assets completely comatose or in decrepit conditions!

Election results is gradually telling on everyone, when a few stvpidd people make decisions, it tells on the general public, with negative political policies, comes negative vices! Purchasing power is little to zero, astronomical inflation and rising debts with terrible presidential will power to act rightly. We are in for a long ride!

In all, it was a wrong move for independence or a terrible mistake to introduced democracy. Either way, Nigeria needs a miracle and we need it fast!

ShopRite left Nigeria many years ago. The Landlord of the Mall outlets took over the business so, that is what you currently see.

The only reason I can think of why this topic has been brought up is tribal bigotry based on the antecedents of the OP. If not, the title should have been why shopping centres in Nigeria are struggling and not just Shoprite.

From my recent experience in Spar, D'Prince (Ebeano), Shoprite, Grand Square, Jendol, Justrite etc, the crowds have reduced considerably in ALL of them compared to the way it was one or 2 years ago.

Obviously the economy is hitting that sector badly due to lower consumer purchasing power.
