Governor Alex Otti has projected that Aba will soon become a global magnet for investors beyond its traditional manufacturing and commercial appeal.

During his address at the commissioning of 14 roads on Tuesday, Otti outlined a vision where Aba attracts firms targeting global markets in technology, remote services, and hybrid business platforms.

“We are building an independent energy supply system and robust broadband infrastructure that will enable businesses to go beyond brick-and-mortar models,” he announced.

Otti added that Aba’s geographical advantages — proximity to oil towns and seaports — combined with a highly skilled workforce, will position the city as an economic powerhouse.

“In the New Aba, there shall be no limits to what you can achieve,” Otti assured entrepreneurs, urging residents to dream big and seize emerging opportunities.

This is advanced macro economics

No nation on earth has ever grown by allowing outsiders to invest ans control its economy

For educational purposes let me explain

And economy is a control volume say like a tank holding water... FDI is like someone using buckets to pure water into the tank once or twice then ask for them to connect pipe from your tank to their house

Say someone invest 10 million dollars in an economy, sale to the local population and makes 50 million the sends back 40 million to his home country

Has be grown the economy he invested in ot reduced it

Unfortunately electricity is not cheap. The cost of producing 1MW of electricity is about 1.5 Million dollars using gas fired generating plants. Even Hydro electricity power generation that is cheaper, costs just slightly less.

Deployment of solar energy can only be for residential use as solar power cannot be used for industrial or heavy machinery.

The only factor that can bring down the electricity tariff in a particular locality is to invest massively in the entire electricity value chain, ie generation, transmission and distribution and metering to the extent that the unit cost of producing electricity will reduce.

This can only happen where consumers of electricity pay for the electricity they consume without bypass or electricity theft. That way investors in the sector can recoup the investment costs and reasonable profit on investment and are incentified to make more investment in the electricity infrastructure.

The sequencing of the FX unification where local manufacturers would employ and contribute taxes to FG through high domestic demand for made in Nigeria is already being enjoyed by Aba shoemakers.
