A 30-year-old Ukrainian deserter, Roman D., stabbed five people in Amsterdam in March, reportedly hoping to get jailed in the Netherlands rather than be sent back to fight in Ukraine, Dutch media report. Roman had served in the Ukrainian Armed Forces and told former comrades he intended to commit a serious crime in Europe to secure prison time and escape redeployment.
