Was shocked to know they are teaching folks in the east that Tiv people give out there wives as entertainment to strangers! No wonder that story is more prominent amongst my Igbo folks!
History should never be distorted on the basis of tribal differences.
Was it a lie ??
It was an old practice among the Tiv which is no longer existing but to deny it never happened makes you a big time liar.

There's possibility of Igbos founding Ile-Ife and Ijebu-Igbo.
Ooni of Ife attested to this claim. Founding Ile-Ife doesn't stop the place from being Yoruba after Oduduwa drove the early settlers to move eastward. Everything shouldn't be argument and for proving ethnic supremacy. Igbo people of old were itinerant adventurers.

. Ugbo people in Ilaje Ondo State in SW are different from Igbo People in the SE of Nigeria. Ugbo people from Ilaje Ondo migrated from Ile-Ife.

Fact is Igbo ancestors were at Ife, yes, same Ile Ife, and I heard it first from the Oni of Ife. What I don't know is if they were the first to settle there, and that is where the government should dig up in earnest search for truth and fact.

And as for those of you jumping up and down over what you know next to nothing about, the present Igbo is not planning to come back to Ife for any reason, in fact it was the Oni himself that was asking Igbos not to forget they moved from Ife.

Let the government set up a committee of enquiry to look into history.

Igbos have been in Ife which the Oni himself spoke about severally that Igbos were once at Ife, and same as benin.

I heard Oni of Ife in a video telling Igbo people that they moved from Ife in the olden days.
Government should do a finding rather than dismiss the book entirely just to be politically right.

Going through comments on this threads showed how obviously there little number of learned people on nairaland. No brainstorming, no academic exchange, just blind and ignorant arguments from people who know next to nothing about the topic.

FYI Igbo ancestors were at Ile Ife, go and dig up. The question here is, we're they the first.
But there is no part of Nigeria where you won't find ibos. So does the ibos own Nigeria ? Besides, if igbos come from ile-ife then they are originally, Yorubas. However, everything about the ibos does not align with that of the Yorubas. That is from Language, culture, physic, habit and behavior. I can therefore infer that the book will create lots and lots of confusion and not in any way educational.

Ugbo too means bush in Igbo dialect.

There seems to be some atom of truth in the books, it could be the Bush people which the writers attributed as Igbos and they are not wrong because you said there is Igbo that Ile Ife people did encountered and I listened to a Yoruba historian at Oba Sijuade palace in Ile Ife tell the story you quoted, not hearsay.

So tell your people attacking Igbos to borrow some brain, everything no be gragra, Tinubu's politics is definitely misleading Yorubas and it will not end well in future if you guys don't slow down.
Ugbo people are not Ibo people. Lol. Moremi sacrificed herself to learn their secret of war but they spoke the same language as her. Relax and cling to your 5 townships with pride. This has nothing to do with Tinubu. You should be ashamed that your authors are trying to rewrite history instead of this long and senseless write up you have up there.

Many have written about a coup and called it 'Igbo coup' but no petition has been written against those propagandists.

Talking about facts. What evidence do you people have that Oduduwa fell from the sky?

Please I was not referencing the book as I have never seen those books, but I have come across that information from no other than the Oni of Ife, then from obi of onitsha.
So the book is not my source, as I am yet to read it. But what I know for certain is that Igbo ancestors lived and left Ife, as to if the igbos were the first to live in Ife is what the government should dig up for academic purposes.

You clearly didn’t read at all..

According to the petition, two books—Standard History Studies for JSS 1–3 by Tony and Ijeoma Duru, and The Igbo: People, History and Worldview by Dons Eze and Chinedu Ochinanwata—contain false narratives that present Ile-Ife as originally settled by the Igbo before Oduduwa allegedly invaded and drove them out.
what evidence do they have to show it was false?
Re: Nigerian Govt Disowns Textbooks Alleging Igbo Founding Of Ile-Ife by shortgun(m):
History doesn’t care about your emotions.
Obatala was the first Igbo man in Ile-Ife.
"Obatala" means he has arrived in Igbo language. Yorubas were amazed and dazzled with his skills and wisdom and they tagged him Oduduwa because they felt he descended from the sky.
If the government is serious, they should return history to our schools

You're fighting a lost battle. Using a mere statement from cl*end at the ministry of education and flaunting the names of the writers to score ethnic points instead of challenging the research academically will do more harm than good to your likes who hate what the book says.

Yorubas own Igbos.
Igbo mean bush in Yoruba Language.
Igbos were slaves of Yorubas who lived in the bush because they couldn't associate with normal humans.
That's why till today, Igbos are servants of Yorubas
....but it's the Yorubas that are always crying that Igbos are taking away things from them.
Have you seen Igbos cry about Yoruba taking away anything from them?

Misplaced priority. The Yoruba intelligentsia should also commission a research to investigate and counter the alleged misrepresentation. The public should be exposed to both schools of thought and make up their minds accordingly.

This sudden rush of blood to the brain, and heating up of the polity, is not necessary.

Boriowo Folasade reacting to a petition from Otunba Abayomi Odunowo against Eze and Chinedu Ochinanwata has ethnic bias written all over it. The federal government should not be involved in this.
STOP typing with ABSOLUTE puerile ignorance there. What commissioning of research are you talking about when the angry Ugbo people led by the Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom, HRM Oba Obateru and his Palace already WARNED your Ibo kinsmen as far back as 2004 to DESIST from referring to the Ugbos who who are Yorubas and originally occupied Ufe (Ife) as Ibos of the east of river Niger? There's absolutely NO research OR investigations to do here. It simply shows that you are NOT current with past historical events or are just impulsive WITHOUT paying attention to little details. This is exactly how you embarrassingly started typing with tribal bigotry on an open discussion forum and throwing insults today at Yoruba folks and FALSELY accusing Yorubas of favoritism on that National Awards thread post on NL WITHOUT bothering to even do your due diligence and get to see the FULL pan-Nigerian list of those honored today for their fight for the sustainance of the Nigerian democracy back in the early 1990s till 1999 when full democracy was restored.

The Yoruba intelligentsia you are typing about including HRM Oba Obateru (OBAT) the Ulugbo of Ugbo's palace in the oil and gas-rich Ugbo Kingdom of Ondo State issued series of press releases and warnings to you Ibos back in 2004 and even years later to desist from FALSELY claiming that the Ugbos of Ufe (Ife) are Ibos. The Ugbos who were in Ife as earlier dynasties long before the arrival of Oduduwa from his Yoruba hilly community of Oke Ora (Oke is hill while Ora is a Yoruba deity) had to leave Ife at last after Ifa was consulted and that is how the ancestors of the current Olugbo of Ugbo got to the present Ondo State centuries back. Oduduwa's arrival in Ife marked the start of the 3rd Dynasty in Ufe (Ife).

Ugbo is NOT the same as the tribe east of river Niger BUT some notorious Ibos persisted in spreading that insidious disinformation due to the prevalence of the Internet and social media using the platform of paid ipob troll farms and some irresponsible bloggers of South East origin.

The ONLY ethnic group Yorubas have mixed bloodlines with in that Kogi, Enugu and Anambra States land bridge area are the Igalas because the late Attah of Igala Michael Ameh Oboni in a 2017 interview affirmed that Igala came into existence through the fusion of a migrant group from Wukari who mixed with a significant number of Yorubas and Edo people around river Niger to the Idah area and this is why Igala is classified as a Yoruboid language because of the many Yoruba-derived words such as Ewa (Egwa in Igala), Ogede (Ogede in Igala), Ogun (medicine or Ogwu in Igala), Ogun (war or Ogwu in Igala), Egungun (masquerade or Egwugwu in Igala), Akuko (Aiko or Akukor in Igala), etc, in it due to the Yoruba ancestral linkages of over 600 to 700 years ago. Period.

someone missed his comprehension classes. The book says it follows approved curriculum and not ministry of education approval. Ministry of education don't approve books except in specific cases. There are processes to challenge academic research; executive fiat and mob brigandage are certainly not part of it.

Nothing these people can not fake in life. They don't know their own history and origin, but they want to rewrite history of another person. These writers have brought national disgrace to themselves and open room for more insults.

Now, the text books will be banned and federal agency in charge of education and book regulatory may now wake up again like NAFDAC and NDLEA. Their forefathers that were more closers to the ancestors did not write or document that kinds of history, but it is now in the age of AI and modernization that they remember this history now
I have only one question regarding this issue. Just one question.
How could the fear fear Yoruba people chased out the villiant, almighty and powerful Igbo tribe from ile ife their Ancestral land and successfully occupied the land turn the place to the cradle of Yoruba nation and tradition? I don't get it. Fear fear Yoruba people oh

What exactly is the job of the ministry of education if it can not monitor academic activities in school. A book giving falsehood to pupils is in circulation in schools they are suppose to superintend and they are giving excuses. Pbat need to fire irresponsible civil servant ASAP. This I believe will have some ibos right in the ministry of education as enabler/collaborators.
