Two days before the PDP primary, having realised the body language of the stakeholders that it wanted to give the party’s ticket to moneybags, Obi resigned from the PDP over what he called “issues that are at variance with my persona and principles” and joined the Labour Party (LP)
If Obi has any governing principles why did he allow himself to be chased out of privatisation and deregulation capitalist PDP into the communist LP labourers camp by Wike, who was only working for ebilokan’s easy access to continue APC shege of corruption, incompetence, inflation, poverty, unemployment, underemployment, insecurity etc?

anonimi:
2023: PDP and politics of healing Wike’s self-inflicted injury

Then, the race began in earnest for three years now, reaching a frenzy with the works of the two PDP committees on zoning. The first was the Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi committee on the zoning of the PDP party offices. The Ugwuanyi committee quickly told the world the committee’s assignment did not cover zoning the office of the president. Though this was true, the question is: why didn’t the Ugwuanyi committee zone the PDP chairmanship to the North without aligning it to the divide that would produce the PDP presidential flag-bearer? The second committee headed by Gov Samuel Ortom of Benue state was specifically on the zoning of the presidential ticket and, with the votes of the representatives of all the 17 Southern states without any exception, the Committee unanimously recommended throwing open the PDP presidential ticket, which the PDP NEC simply upheld.

One thing irrefutably stands out – Wike shot himself in the leg. Here was a man who had an overarching influence on both committees but could not insist that the ticket be zoned South. Many had wondered why? The reason is also relatively in plain sight: the Southeast factor. As the clamour for zoning of the presidential ticket of the PDP to South reached its crescendo, many had pointed out the fact that though the PDP Constitution had prescribed zoning of the office of the president to be between North and South since the South-west and South-south had taken their turns in producing the president and the vice in this current dispensation in the persons of Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, zoning this time around, should not just be to the South but the Southeast.

Atiku Abubakar went a step further by offering to step down from the race if it would be agreed that the touted zoning to the South would mean micro-zoning to the Southeast. Wike and the rest could not take the Atiku challenge maybe because Atiku would likely back Peter Obi, who was his vice-presidential running mate in 2019 and an ally. The prospects of Peter Obi picking the ticket if PDP zoned South was so real compelling Wike to go for an open contest, believing he could pick it up ahead of Atiku, Tambuwal and Bala Mohammed, given his large war chest.

Nobody said Obi should run alone. I didn't read that in the article. Obi should work with coalition and get a very strong northerner as running mate..must Atiku contest?
Well, for me the only northerner that Obi can run with that will have a good chance of success is Kwankwaso. Any other person is a waste of time that will lead to serious electoral loss
Kwankwaso is not part of the coalition so the best bet for the coalition is an Atiku/Obi combo or they work on Kwankwaso

It will be better he doesn't contest than be a running mate to Atiku.
Atiku is hungry for power not for bringing development to Nigeria
Who is not hungry for power among them? Let's not kidding ourselves pls. You think going out to face the evils and complexities in politics is child's play?

#Back to Bourdillon 2027 is the official mantra of Nigerians ahead of elections. It's inevitable and there's no way a drug baron is going to win.

This I have seen!
Actually, '#BackToIragbiji2027' should be the official mantra of Nigerians ahead of the election, to emphasize the determination of the people to ensure that Tinubu returns to wherever he came from.

He has brought nothing but pains, anguish and hardships mascurading as economic reforms

Handover to him in 2031, so Nigeria is now someone asset to be tossed around.

Did buhari handover to osibanjo, NO.

He will be fooling himself if he believes these.

The Atiku I perceived will want 2 terms.

Power is taken not given.

Politics is not mathematics. grin

The coalition should save their strength towards 2031.

Re: 2027: 2 Costly Mistakes Peter Obi Can’t Afford To Make - Temidayo Akinsuyi by jchioma: 7:23am On Jun 14, 2025
. If Atiku is pleading to do one term and hand over to Obi in 2031, Obi too should promise him that he will do one term in 2027 and then hand over to the North in 2031. After all, the clamour is that the South should complete its eight years like the North did from 2015 to 2023, and four years is enough for any serious leader to cause transformational changes which successive leaders can then build upon. I repeat for the sake of emphasis, the youths following Obi want him as president. He may lose their support if he settles for a running mate who is anyone.

My key take away from the article. The first being that; any attempt to deputies Atiku will badly hamper OBI’s presidential ambition now and in future.

@ emboldened, why do you like to be lying deliberately just to prove no points? Who suggested Osinbajo as VP to Buhari?
He is right. Tinubu initially wanted to deputise buhari but the brohaha of the Muslim Muslim ticket stopped it . It was afterwards that he recommended osibanjo

Again , stop lying. Infact, it was Tinubu who pointed out Muslim Muslim to Buhari when he approached him before the 2015 election

Peter Obi would win the 2027 presidential election.

All these defections to APC shouldn't bother him.

What he should worry about is "rigging" coming from the incumbent president and APC.

It is the people that votes not parties. I am with Peter Obi.

Agbegbaorogboye:
This article is concise and the message well passed but I disagree with the message. Obidients and Obi need to be pragmatic. They need to understand and realise what they are up against. This is not 2023 when Buhari wanted a level playing field. Even with his good intentions, the political hawks in APC still managed to "glitch" the system. We're talking here of 2027 where Tinubu will be an incumbent running for a second term, where he has successfully subjugated almost every critical institution and apparatus. If Obi runs solo, the 2023 template will be replayed again. Simplicita.
His best bet now is VP to Atiku. He shouldn't allow anyone to gaslight him. Even Tinubu attempted to be VP to a Buhari. Anyone telling him to run alone is either just being sentimental or working for the APC.
Nothing but the truth.

Let them kick out Tinubu first, we can go back to the drawing table.

Peter Obi must not listen to this writer and his kinds.

Tinubu knows that he cannot win 2027 Presidential election without massive rigging. The only way to checkmate Tinubu's rigging plans is for Atiku and Peter Obi to merge.
Re: 2027: 2 Costly Mistakes Peter Obi Can’t Afford To Make - Temidayo Akinsuyi by piriton: 7:34am On Jun 14, 2025
The only battle ground is the north, only the north can change the votes. Tinubu has captured the south already. Only Atiku can harvest the northern votes. Unless they join together they cannot win. Southwest and South South have settled for APC. No significant votes for obi in the north. Most of the southern support for obi had moved to APC regional support. Because they believe Tinubu has the capacity to win. Only a joint ticket with Atiku can obi near the presidency. If Atiku refuses to contest and kwankwaso contest. Kwankwaso will harvest the northern votes as simple as that.

Atiku, Obi, and other PDP egg heads are together. Asking for agreement for portfolios or one term is childish and counterproductive. A deputy should support this principal to succeed. All those asking both to contest separately are paid agents of the present administration
Paid agent again? Meaning everyone commenting on politics are paid agents. Meanwhile, are you saying the presidency should returned to the north? This is the first factor before any other considerations.

Turn by turn is good but that is more of a concern to the ruling elites. The ordinary people are looking for those who will improve there lives not zoning. Wasn't ít a Southerner that was in power when APC choose to go North. PDP will do same in 2027 and it will be the masses who will decide who will occupy Aso Rock

Re: 2027: 2 Costly Mistakes Peter Obi Can’t Afford To Make - Temidayo Akinsuyi by gabbasin(m): 7:50am On Jun 14, 2025
No serious political party that really want to win the presidential election will hand over her candidacy to Obi, he will never get the votes of the core North, the coalition will never give the ticket to Obi neither the PDP if he does find his way back there. As things stand today, the coalition will field Atiku. Anyone who thinks Atiku will jettison his presidential ambition at this point in time is naive as 2027 will most likely be his last chance of a shot at power. If the main contestants in 2023 are on the ballot again in 2027, I doubt if Obi will get up to the votes he garnered in 2023,
Re: 2027: 2 Costly Mistakes Peter Obi Can’t Afford To Make - Temidayo Akinsuyi by DesChyko: 7:54am On Jun 14, 2025
Peter Obi has no business playing second fiddle to anyone. The youths desire him because they want a tomorrow that assures their efforts are crowned; he alone shows that drive to make tomorrow better from them. The old guard keeps frolicking with the old guards and their children; all of who make up less than 1% of the Nigerian population.

The ones that have endorsed, how has life been for the people they govern?

It is only desperation or idiocy that will make a person keep doing things the same way and expect different results.

Actually, Peter Obi's endorsements have proven to be game-changers in Nigerian politics.

Obi's influence is undeniable, especially among Nigeria's youth, who are increasingly turning to him for leadership and direction.

He can never win, whether as president or as a running mate. Because after Tinubu's tenure in 2031 it will be the north for 8yrs. The only way he can smell Aso Rock within the next 12 years is if he joins APC. Or becomes a senator so he can be invited to the presidential villa once in a while.

Tinubu has not captured the South, unless you're talking about the governors, not the electorates. Obi will defeat Tinubu in the South 10 times out of 10 if they contest together. Outside of the Southwest, none of the Southern Politicians were able to deliver their States to Tinubu, except for Wike and we saw how he did it.

It was the 5.6m voters from the North that made Tinubu president. Those votes no longer exists for Tinubu and they have potentially been gained by Atiku to a large extent and even Obi, to a lesser extent. Unlike 2023, a 3-horse race would be a disadvantage to Tinubu because he still does not have the South in his grip as he likes to think. Obi is still the face of the Southern candidacy. Tinubu ran on religion (muslim-muslim) in 2023, he cannot suddenly pivot and start seeking to run on region in 2027 just because he has squandered his Northern goodwill.

If osibanjo had contested with Obi, yes it is true that Obi would not have had the kind vote he had then. However, that woud have affected Tinubu votes count too because the number of votes thinubu would earn from southwest zone would have reduced as welll. I think the best chance Obi has is to be a vice candidate to Atiku in PDP, anything below that, let him forget it.This is because North cannot vote for igbo person as their presidential candidate because the hatred and envy Hausa and Yoruba have over igbos are legendary.Forget about thr fake love they are showing obi, majority of the core North will never vote for igbos due to envy and hatred yoruba and hausa have over igbos..
richmond500:
Whoever wrote this article wants Tinubu to win 2027 election.
They are pushing Obi to negotiate from the position of strength and be the presidential candidate because the youths wants him, they will say the same thing to Atiku, Amaechi and co, which will destroy the coalition.

Obi should know the youth wants a change from APC and PDP old men and not necessarily Obi himself
If Osinbajo had defected to another party and contested, Obi wouldn't have had the votes he had cos Osinbajo was the Starboy and the youths favourite till he lost at the polls and the favour shifted to Obi.

My advice to Amaechi Obi and El-Rufai is to understand themselves and contest. As for Atiku, he should GTH with his greed.
