And every Nigerian should pay income tax that takes 30-50% of their income. That's how saner climes can pay for and afford all the nice stuff you envy. (But you guys will shout poverty...and show your laziness in challenging your government by saying they will steal the money. DesChyko:Okay, let every city in Nigeria pay council tax of at least 300000 naira per household, per MONTH...to pay for decent city services like good public transport and good healthcare faciliutes , ambulance included. (Nigerians will shout poverty and call me an agbero). IN saner climes, they have good stuff, because they PAY for it. The saner climes gang are already here. True, we should raise standards. People are right. LAGOS emergency ambulance service is not up to standard for a global city like Lagos. But the problem is, Nigerians don;t want to do what is needed to be done to raise the standard. It is always amusing to see NIgerians abroad posting pictures of better services there. We should ask them to post their tax receipts too, and ask how they feel about the money going out of their pockets. And it is a lazy man who says we should not pay higher because 'they will steal the money' . In saner climes they are also that suspicious...but they use the suspiciousness to challenge their rulers...and that's why they cannot do nothing Also, finally, saner climes don't sell oil and share the revenue. Saner climes run diversifed , strong economies. And pay hefty amounts in tax to get good service. 2 Likes |

nairalanda1:I don't know about you bro, but I pay my taxes. That is a basic civic duty and gulps about 20% of my income, which is close to what the average american pays. That does not include property tax and I don't get any tax free income for personal care, spouse support, dependents or education. That's also how saner climes tax their citizens, No? 1 Like |

I get it, you don't like the President, no wahala. But why do you keep saying things that fit that same old story the foreign news channels love to tell about us? The one that says Africa is just poverty, fighting, and bad leaders, and nothing else (like they don't have hands in all of these) Have you forgotten we are young nations in Africa. Many of our countries only really started in the 50s and 70s. And it's even harder because we have so many tribes and cultures, which makes making big development decisions a real challenge. Despite how those "saner climes" as you have called them are the same ones that divided us up, took our resources, and are still taking from us, we've still done well. Because you don't like your current leader you don't think we've made progress? You don't think having ambulances which is something we never used to have is development in the right direction? Okay they were able to take 44252 in 5 years, you don't think in 10 or 15 years that number would have increased? These ambulances are completely free and in some cases are heavily subsidised, do you think ambulances are free in ''saner climes''? It truly pains me when I hear fellow Nigerians and Africans talking like this. We might not be where we want to be yet, but before we talk down on ourselves, let's remember those "saner climes." Go and read about how they struggled when they were just starting out. It wasn't always smooth for them either. We can criticise and hold the government accountable but let's do it constructively and let's celebrate little wins. I also believe we would have made more progress if we had a government of continuity but I still believe progress is being made and you have to live with the fact that the progress and development you want might not even happen in your lifetime. Truly something to be proud of?? 2 people on average per day in a population of 19 million and growing. Thats a 0.00000102% percent chance of being attended to, which is why sane people dont even bother. Lagos makes enough to fund and grow the state, even with the low tax net.
