so no one should thinking iran is a mere academic exercise for us

we also have a stake
If that’s the case, then our focus should be on addressing issues here at home—our own people—not supporting an unprecedented act of aggression overseas that has little or nothing to do with us directly.

This is the same kind of justification the U.S. used to get involved in Libya, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Yet, despite all that, the world is still far from peaceful.

I’m sorry, but I respectfully disagree with that school of thought.

what i am saying is that Iran is already sponsoring their movements in nigeria and they have been doing so since the 80s

it is not an abstract argument

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibrahim_Zakzaky

Ibraheem Yaqoub El-Zakzakypronunciationⓘ (alternately Ibraheem Zakzaky, Ibrahim Al-Zakzaky; born 5 May 1953) is a Nigerian religious leader. An outspoken and prominent Shi'a leader in Nigeria, he has been imprisoned several times for what he sees as injustice, especially the system of corruption in his country. Zakzaky claims that only Islam can offer solution to the complex socio-political problems facing Nigeria, which has over the years stagnated the country's development.[3][4] In a lecture he has delivered in marking the occasion of Sheikh Uthman Bn Fodio Week (May 2023) organized by the Academic Forum of Islamic Movement, Zakzaky stated that he is continuing the Jihad of Uthman Bn Fodio to make sure that Islam becomes the ruling religion in not only Nigeria but the entirety of West Africa. In a lecture he delivered on the same occasion in Sokoko (20 May 2023), one of his proponents, Dr. Nasir Hashim has claimed that Zakzaky’s dream is the only hope for Africa.

Sheikh Zakzaky is the head of Nigeria's Islamic Movement, which he started in the late 1970s, when he was a student at Ahmadu Bello University, and began propagating Shia Islam around 1979, at the time of the Iranian revolution—which saw Iran's monarchy overthrown and replaced with an Islamic republic under Ayatollah Khomeini. Zakzaky believed that the establishment of a republic along similar religious lines in Nigeria would be feasible. He has been detained several times due to accusations of civil disobedience or recalcitrance under military regimes in Nigeria during the 1980s and 1990s, and is still viewed with suspicion or as a threat by Nigerian authorities.[4] In December 2015, the Nigerian Army raided his residence in Zaria, seriously injured him, and killed hundreds of his followers. Since then, he has remained under state detention in the nation's capital pending his release, which was ordered in late 2016.[5][6] In 2019, a court in Kaduna state granted him and his wife bail to seek treatment abroad but they returned from India after 3 days on the premises of unfair treatment and tough restrictions by security operatives deployed to the medical facility.[7]

Nigeria: Hezbollah armoury discovered in Kano city

An armoury belonging to the Lebanese group Hezbollah has been discovered in northern Nigeria, the West African nation's army and spy agency has said.

Three Lebanese nationals have been arrested, an army spokesman, Brig Gen Ilyasu Isa Abba, said.

The cache, including rifles, anti-tank weapons and an RPG, were found in a warehouse in the city of Kano, he said.

Nigeria's State Security Service said they were intended for use against "Israeli and Western interests".

"This is the handwork of Hezbollah," Bassey Ettang, director of the State Security Service in Kano said.

"What has just been discovered is a cell of Hezbollah and what you have seen here is a Hezbollah armoury," he told journalists in Kano on Thursday.

Brig Gen Ilyasu Isa Abba said 11 anti-tank weapons, four anti-tank mines, a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) and 21 RPG missiles, 17 AK-47s, two sub-machine guns and 76 grenades had been amongst the weapons found.

The Lebanese owner of the warehouse where "the weapons of mass destruction" had been stored in sawdust was out of the country, he said

There is a large business Lebanese community in Kano city, the commercial hub of northern Nigeria.

It is the first time that Nigerian authorities have alleged that Hezbollah has an operational interest in the country.

Kano and north-eastern Nigeria has suffered multiple attacks in the last three years since the home-grown Islamist militant group Boko Haram launched an insurgency.

Mr Ettang added: "You can also be sure that if a group like this is existing then it may even lend support to some of the local terrorists we have on the ground."

Hezbollah is a Shia military and political movement based in Lebanon considered by the US to be a terrorist organisation.

Boko Haram, whose name means "Western education is forbidden", says its quest is to overthrow the Nigerian government and create an Islamic state.

There has been growing concern that Boko Haram could be receiving backing from al-Qaeda-linked militants in other countries.

It is 2025, what's the excuse for so much ignorance?

I don't know how many times to tell people. Shut the TV off and go and find real news where people aren't paid to lie to you.

Stop posting silly propagandized articles written by "people with no skin in the game" trying to drive a wedge between Russia and China. Both nations laughed it off. Your world is now multipolar. There's no chief bully running the show.

Even me I'm shocked by Iran's retaliation. If they continued in the same manner, the USA will push for a ceasefire in a week.

LordAdam16 and co were right.

What I’m saying is that Nigerian government have been largely complacent—or perhaps it’s more accurate to say that several of our leaders are actively colluding with external interests.

Ideally, our focus should be on addressing the root causes of our own problems here at home, rather than justifying or celebrating the escalation of events abroad—especially when such tensions could potentially lead to a third world war.

Ellexy:
Lol Western propaganda ke? Oya let's do a little bit of history.

1. The "NATO promise" myth?
There was no formal treaty or legally binding agreement that NATO would never expand eastward. If there is, please do well to provide it. That claim stems from an offhand remark during a 1990 conversation between U.S. and Soviet officials about East Germany only, not all of Eastern Europe.
And just so you know, countries like Poland, the Baltics, and others chose to join NATO voluntarily because of their historical trauma under Soviet domination and they feel safe there.

2. The U.S.–Cuba comparison? Apples and suya.
Cuba aligning with the USSR during the Cold War led to the Cuban Missile Crisis because the USSR placed nuclear missiles 90 miles off U.S. shores.
Ukraine, on the other hand, did not join NATO. As of the invasion in 2022, Ukraine was not a NATO member, so Putin didn’t invade to stop NATO expansion; he simply invaded to stop Ukraine’s independence.

3. Protecting ethnic Russians?
This is the same excuse Hitler used for invading parts of Europe under the guise of "protecting German speakers." Since 2014, there has been conflict in Eastern Ukraine, but much of it was instigated by Russian-backed separatists.
And let’s not pretend Russia has been gentle, didn't they they annex Crimea Illegally as a test run before launching a full-scale invasion, bombing cities and killing civilians? That’s not protection, that's simply expansionism.

4. Afrikaner evacuation = False equivalence.
Trump never ordered a government evacuation of white South Africans. No official program was launched. Comparing that to a literal, bloody invasion of a sovereign nation is a massive reach.

So let’s call it what it is. Putin’s goal is not protection or whatever you call, it’s control. He’s trying to drag Ukraine back into Russia’s orbit by force because a free, independent, democratic Ukraine threatens his grip on Russians at home. Not only that, Ukraine didn't invade Russia, never threatened Russia, didn't fund militias and terrorist group like Hezbollah, Hamas, Houthis.

So Western propaganda isn't the issue, Revisionist history mixed with Kremlin PR is.

Cc Seankafor.
First things first. This is from De Spigiel,, a German leading magazine confirming the written agreement between NATO & Russia whereby NATO agreed not to expand Eastward.
President Donald Trump the 47th POTUS, also confirmed that the West and Russia had an agreement.

Secondly, the Cuban crisis is not apples and oranges. Whether nuclear capable missiles or not no reasonable country will allow her potential foe to establish a military base in her bordering country. Even conventional missiles can be armed with nuclear warhead in a matter of hours. US will not allow such in Mexico or Cuba, Russia has said enough is enough. If Russia cannot establish a military base in Mexico or Cuba, why will Russia allow US military formation in Ukraine?

3rd, NATO sponsored a civilian coup through the famous maidan protest (which was a regime change operation) in Kiev which overthrow the Ukrainian president. The president was from Donetsk oblast (part of the four regions Russia annexed) NATO tried the same civilian military coup in Georgia but it failed woefully.

Are you seriously saying that the United States did not evacuate Afrikaners in South Africa? Something wey just happened recently.

Satanyahu ran away to Greece because even he knows the Iron dome wasn't worth the hype the media sold to me. Even in Evangelical circles, they fed us such zobo in church. Iran penetrated that sh*t easily.

And I know it is being downplayed, but the Captain who spearheaded the capture of Greta's Flotilla, was allegedly sent to the other side. Iran also got some of the top brass of the Israeli military. They are just censoring it.

You people know big mouth Trump. He's been silent. E shock all of us for this side. Iran is doing some things and they are announcing it is only just beginning. They've announced no movements around the Straits of Hormuz. That's also going to be debilitating. Gas prices are rising and this will favor Putin. So I agree with Okpa, he's definitely seeding Iran with ballistic missiles. It favors him. The USA cannot run multiple proxy wars simultaneously so Zelle bobo is as good as ...done.

Unless there is a ground invasion, airstrikes and missiles won't cut it
The only ammunition/systems that can penetrate that mountain belongs to the US/Russia. The process to deliver it too, Israel doesn't have such bomb or aircraft to deliver such heavy bomb.

Exactly! I’m even more disappointed with Trump—first in how he handled the Russia-Ukraine situation, and now with the Israel-Iran-Palestine conflict and related tensions.
This is a President who campaigned on ending endless wars, yet what we’re seeing now is escalation on every front.

When will these endless wars actually end?

What’s even more frustrating is that, in the midst of all the ongoing efforts to bring peace between the warring parties, Trump has now admitted that he knew Israel was planning to attack Iran all along.

I mean… what’s the end goal this time?
More war? More excuses for lives to be lost?
Because honestly, I don’t get it.

Low-key, some of you are too eager for war – like this is Call of Duty. Real human lives will be lost. Btw, the fallout won’t stop in the Middle East. Once Iran’s weapons cache starts leaking into the hands of non-state actors, the ripple effects will hit Africa hard. Terrorists will scoop them up just like they did after Libya collapsed. We’ve seen this movie before, and it doesn’t end well.
@digzz see what I wrote about this issue yesterday.

Meanwhile, Russian representatives in the United Nations Security Council is already warning NATO countries intercepting Iranian drones/missiles.

I like Putin style of leadership because before he moves, he will always issue warning⚠ make e no be say he take u unaware. You know will know what's hitting you.
Is like na dis year Iran will sink one of those US naval destroyers intercepting Iranian missiles/drones.

🇷🇺💬🇮🇱🇮🇷Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergei Ryabkov:

No matter how much Israel tries to present it now as if irreparable damage and harm has been caused, that the goals have been achieved, and so on, they will end up with a worse security situation than before this action. I don’t want to anticipate anything, but the determination of the Iranian side speaks for itself.

Beyond the unfortunate events of October 7, it’s important to remember that Trump actively campaigned on a promise not to drag the U.S. into more wars. He repeatedly stated that one of his top priorities was to end the conflicts between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the Israel-Palestine-Iran tensions—and, by extension, reduce instability across the Middle East.

Even his early visit to Saudi Arabia seemed to suggest he was trying to approach things differently.
But with the way events have escalated recently, it’s hard not to wonder how other countries are viewing the U.S.—and whether they can genuinely trust anything coming from its leadership.

At this point, it’s honestly becoming absurd how Israel continues to violate international rules of engagement with what seems like complete impunity.

And while I understand the need for any nation to defend itself, how does fueling more wars help anyone—especially when they appear to be the aggressor on nearly every front?
