Benue Killings: Tinubu Orders Decisive Action, Tasks Alia On Reconciliation by Omooba77(op): 9:46pm On Jun 15, 2025
President Bola Tinubu on Sunday directed security chiefs to implement his earlier directive to bring peace and security to Benue State.

He also charged the Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, to convene reconciliation meetings and dialogue among the warring parties to end the incessant bloodshed.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, revealed this in a statement he signed Sunday titled, ‘Benue Crisis: President Tinubu directs security chiefs to implement earlier directive, tasks Governor Alia on reconciliation.’

This follows the latest round of reprisal attacks that led to the death of many people.

“On the president’s directive, intelligence chiefs, the police and the military have arrived in the state to direct security operations and restore sanity,” the statement partly read.

Gunmen stormed Yelewata village in Guma LGA of Benue State late Friday, unleashing one of the deadliest assaults the state has seen in years.

Amnesty International and local official reports say that at least 100 residents were killed, dozens remain missing, and hundreds are nursing gunshot and burn wounds after attackers set houses ablaze through the early hours of Saturday.

Police confirmed the raid but have not issued a final casualty figure, while emergency workers say many victims were internally displaced people who had taken refuge in the village after earlier attacks.

Benue authorities have launched a manhunt, but residents fear more reprisals as the rainy season, peak period for disputed grazing and planting, sets in.

The statement added, “President Tinubu has equally charged the governor of Benue State with convening reconciliation meetings and dialogue among the warring parties to end the incessant bloodshed and bring lasting peace and harmonious coexistence between farmers, herders, and communities.”

The President described the killings and bloodletting as inhuman and anti-progress.

He called on political leaders and community leaders in conflict areas to stop fuelling the crisis through unguarded utterances and statements that could further inflame tensions.

Tinubu also urged political actors to rein in those who go out to cause provocations and ignite reprisal attacks.

He said, “The latest news of wanton killings in Benue State is very depressing. We must not allow this bloodletting to continue unabated. Enough is now enough. I have directed the security agencies to act decisively and arrest perpetrators of these evil acts on all sides of the conflict and prosecute them.

“Political and community leaders in Benue State must act responsibly and avoid inflammatory utterances that could further increase tensions and killings. This is the time for Governor Alia to act as a statesman and immediately lead the process of dialogue and reconciliation that will bring peace to Benue.

“Our people must live in peace, and it is possible when leaders across the divides work together in harmony and differences are identified and addressed with fairness, openness and justice.”

Sunday’s directive comes one month after the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, said he is working with governors to provide synergy for the military’s operations across states.

Briefing State House Correspondents after a security meeting on May 16, Musa said, “The president is also looking at the aspect of also discussing with the governors for their own support, buy-in, ensuring that the dividends of democracy are also extended to the communities to be able to clamp down on the issue of insecurity.”

His "Lowness' Bola Akmed Tinupoo is focused on 2027 and how to capture all the oil producing states and not about bombing out the Fulanis terrorising Nigeria and keeping our national image on the mud.

Do you guys really love cow herders more than other human Nigerian beings?

This press release shows the governor knows those behind the attacks and the cause of the attacks. From all indications the presidency is indirectly pointing fingers at the governor.
The problem is that the masses are the ones paying for this political fight.
Rev fr.Alia do well to reconcile issues with those you know are behind the attacks and the cause of the attacks.

Big useless talk. I feel pained. I feel their pains. It was not like this before when we were growing up. What really went wrong in the middle belt? Why are they so weak in Benue? Why not state of emergency and use a neutral military formation to unravel the killers without having mercy on anyone? Why displacing the natives from their ancestral lands?. Why can't the presidency veto that all grazing must be totally banned and any cow seen must be fired without looking back? I don't care if they belong to anyone powerful or not?.

Most of these evil elements come from neighbouring states and countries and are being sponsored by those that are not part of the natives, and I guess many of them hide under the ruling party to find their way through. What will happen if these people refuse to fight back in the next 10 years? Their ancestry lands are gone. What is wrong with the leadership of these country that prefer to play politics rather than good governance and being blunt in tackling some issues head on?

The mannequin remembered Benue just because Pope Leo called out the killings going on there that he and his govt has turned blind eyes on.

Meanwhile Ortom and other men of influence would rather go to Aso Rock and sing Tinubu’s “On Your Mandate” than utter a word about what is happening at their backyard.

Cowards!
Re: Benue Killings: Tinubu Orders Decisive Action, Tasks Alia On Reconciliation by Igbophobia: 1:56am On Jun 16, 2025
Benue people have been bought and sold. Where re the cows? Imagine calling out the PC governor as if he is the C-in C. Well, the good news is the evacuation of the LGs attacked. More IDPs for Benue people while Fulani move in. Politics matters. Who you permit to grab power matters even more. It shows. For instance, while Israel is fighting to stop Iranian missiles, IDPs are beginning to form in Iran. That's why effective leadership, not propaganda matters.

2027, still vote foolishly or permit incompetent people to grab power. Better still, give another Fulani power....

What sort of reconciliation?

Why not call for Justice and fishing out the killers.

Oya, whenever I said the Benue attacks are reprisal attack, some people used to argue blindly

Because you hardly read about attacks on the Fulani's. Not justifying or defending their actions, but the parties involved need to start talking so that the killings can stop

What war and what reconciliation is he talking about? People are being massacred in their homes and he is speaking of reconciliation. Was there a war in the first place? What is wrong with this country?

Lazy deceitful ballot snatcher no elected president will make such careless statements.
What sort of reconciliation is he talking about.
A land that is already besieged by foreign religious terrorists due to porous borders and failed security systems.
The lives lost is enough to declare state of emergency followed by tactical security defense mechanism then you can now talk about reconciliation.

Tinubu should stop being funny the governor cannot do this alone.

Reconciliation with terrorists and killers herdsmen. What a joke
Re: Benue Killings: Tinubu Orders Decisive Action, Tasks Alia On Reconciliation by emkz:
President Tinubu,

It is irrelevant whether peace and reconciliation are the goals. It is completely unacceptable that terrorists would enter a community and wipe out innocent lives and there is no emergency security meeting and strong steps to curtail the crisis.

No arrests have been made.

When pipelines were bombed in Rivers State, you acted decisively. Until today, not a single individual has gone near any pipeline to admire it or kiss it.

The way to peace is justice. There can be no peace without justice!

President Tinubu, many of us who supported you did so because you demonstrated capacity while you led Lagos. As governor, the first thing you did within six months was launching the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) that changed the face of security in Lagos State until today.

What exactly are you doing now?

Are you overwhelmed?

Those of us who support you are fully in support of you taking decisive action against those who kill our countrymen for any reason. They have done it in Kaduna, they have done it in Plateau, they have tried it in Enugu, they are doing it on a weekly basis in Benue. By the time they conquer Benue, they'd want to expand. Now is the time to push back. And the pushback must be decisive.

Do you remember how IBB ended the terror reign of Lawrence Anini?

Do you remember what Abacha did when some fanatics murdered someone and paraded his head in the streets of Kano?

Do you remember how Buhari chased some Chadian rebels 50 km beyond international borders? Infact, when Chadian rebels occupied some islands in Lake Chad, President Shagari ordered GOC General Buhari of Jos Division to chase them away. Did they come back?

The country is at war! Not against PDP or bad economy. The country is at war against those who do not wish to take responsibility and give orders for those killing our people to be levelled.

You are commander-in-chief. Your security echelon knows these people and their sponsors. They know their lines of communication. There is also no way they'd come in their motorcycles in their numbers and security agencies are not aware. Fish them out and give them summary justice. Until those who kill are made to face the music, ignoring them motivates them to kill some more.

We also hear that the security agencies prevent the locals from defending themselves by raiding them and collecting their weapons. Since the government has failed them, they resorted to self-help. We are charging the security agencies to descend on the terrorists with the same speed they descend on locals when the locals defend themselves.

President Tinubu, if you fail to fully tackle insecurity and let Nigerians feel safe, if you like, build a bridge from Nigeria to heaven, you'd have failed!

Anyone who takes the life of another has signed a contract with death. Please do the needful and send them to where they belong: hell.

Enough is enough!

As for the governor, please augment the forest guards with your own local vigilante. Arm them to defend the communities. We'd be ready to contribute to paying them if necessary even if we are not from Benue. David Mark, SGF George Akume, are you going to keep silent while your people are being murdered? What would be your legacy to your descendants? Are you not bothered?

As for the crew in the southeast murdering their own people, Benue and Kogi states form the northern fence of the southeast. If Benue falls, they'd come for you because they are fighting to control land and resources, especially water. Mobilize and support Benue. Prominent Igbo businessmen, be ready to pool funds to support Benue's efforts. Let us unite and fight a common enemy.

PS: Some people who have turned themselves to apostles of mediocrity who assume I am paid to support Tinubu must be reminded yet again that I am not like them. We staked everything to support Tinubu and that means we have failed if he fails. We criticize him where he falters and do not support him blindly. And no, it is only those who are limited and poverty-stricken with ideas who assume I am paid.

Chai!! Nigeria my country! Over 200 people have been killed in Benue State alone and the country is calm and quiet as if nothing has happened!

Our president, who has proven to be for the elites only and not for the masses, is as usual, dishing out his weak instructions from the comfort of his Air-conditioned office.

Nigeria, currently, doesn't have a president who is sympathetic to the cause of the common man!

Tinubu that has practically wasted the past 2 years in office is more interested in winning the next election than fixing the country. That's one of the signs of incompetent leaders.

Reconciliation with fulanis, hmmmm this fulanis are really really getting what they have been fighting for.Making Fulani as indigenous to Benue state has always been the target. This is how nasarawa and pleatue state was lost to the fulanis.Benue and kogi state is the next target.
