I thought this thread was about Nigeria. Economics do have some prospects in the UK. But Accounting is far better in terms of job opportunity and growth. You will need a master's and/or PhD in economics to get any meaningful job. Else you will have to enter another discipline/career.

Marine engineering job is lucrative in the UK.... But do you have up to 60 million to foot the bills with the certifications that comes after?

Passing the Certificate of competency written and Oral examination is not a small task.

You can even choose to work in UK and live in Nigeria during your time off, I have lot of colleagues like that.

You don't know what economics entails, that's why you find it weird that they work in business and accounting fields. Economics covers all those professions you listed, it's a super discipline that cuts across various sectors...

An economist by virtue of the content of his degree can work as an accountant, business analyst, salesman and various fields in finance they're all related to the degree...

Check a typical economics degree curriculum and see the courses they take, apart from micro/macroeconomics, most of their courses are statistics, business management, finance and accounting.

I think Dentistry should take number one position here. UK is greatly deficient of dentists currently.

You do realize that accounting is a professional discipline, right? Anyone could learn the accounting craft and be called an accountant but you do need a recognised charter to be a professional accountant. So, an economist without such charter cannot be a professional accountant. That said, economics does not cover accounting. Maybe the financial parts of it, but not the whole field. I admire economists though

The prospect too is so mad that you can be self employed and still do so well. I worked for two firms after school for like a little over a year and have been on my own ever since and doing so well.

Nobody is trying to disrespect accounting here, but just like IT, it's one of those fields where you don't actually need a degree to be called a professional.

All things being equal, there is no field outside of accounting/finance that's closer to accounting than economics. It's just a versatile field and equips you to function in various career fields.

Very relevant

Stop going to the UK. Consider other countries like Australia, US, Canada etc.

There is a lot more to gain in the aforementioned countries in terms of benefits.

Let me shock you , I've seen Nigerian degrees in zoology, secretarial studies, fine arts , mass communication, christian religious studies , English and literature............ frustrating and useless courses that foreign universities have termed obsolete and useless , our professors her cry for the love of God that they last heard of such courses 20 years ago

that trend was on but by mid-eighties the game changed ...... we have more English language graduates in IT more that those who studied Computer Scient currently

Many lawyers dont have case to handle, there are more 'charge and bail' legal practitioners in that circle ..... the average lawyer in most chambers earn the salary of a Clerk

In these days of supplements and telemedicine, Doctors have to juggle PP with employment to make ends meet //////
