If you have the willpower, you will do something, anything is better than nothing. You see in other states they are doing it in their small ways, Whether its 20% effective, its better than nothing. Next weekend is coming or before next weekend, Another one might happen and we will start another round of press release

I am sure the indigenes will prefer when they had Amtekun, Ebubeagu Agunachemba vs when they had nothing

There was a time when civilians, landlord started organizing themselves into vigilante against armed robbers
Why are you so obsessed about the man that his best can be no more than 20%, yet fail to call for the man that wields 80% power to tackle the insecurity situation?

This buck stops at Tinubu's table, he said so himself.

They should do something first before they say its not enough. Nigeria currently is underpoliced, Anything you can do with your state security votes to improve your security and not be handing security votes to godfathers and sidechics will go a long way in securing the people you promised to secure
Baba, me and u know that the idea of Governors being CSO of their states is fallacy. I can agree to the suggestion of the governor partnering with the police like we have RRS in Lagos or fund civilian JTF work alongside the military; but I don't buy the idea of paramilitary guys going to face terrorrrists with automatic rifles. It is disaster waiting to happen.

Exactly, I think their leaders are timid because of their own political considerations, NC historical have big time generals so sourcing and training of paramilitary wouldn't be difficult.

If I was Alia I would immediately form a paramilitary group to br headed by Useni or any of their ex-military generals lets see if this guys will try nonsense.
The Southwest through Amotekun said No, similar in the South East, state that has a governor cannot be having round the clock killings, until Tinubu declares state of emergency imho this is still on the governor.
If anyone should champion state police, it should be the NC because they have been collecting way longer than any part f the country
And going by Nigerian military records, the middle belt has some of the fiercest and bravest fighters
I know some communities in Plateau have their vigilantes especially around Shendam(Don't know if they still have). In 2003-2004 I know they pushed back against the Fulanis heavily where there was allegations that they were eating the killed Fulanis. Instead of being one small community doing it, why cant the state govt bring them together and empower them You get them jobs, and secure your homeland

They face local vigilantes but we all know they overpower them. What's the difference between vigilante and paramilitary using the same type of guns?

You are comparing the southeast and southwest where there are no known hardened terrrrorist groups with the North ?

I'm not saying paramilitary should not be established but I doubt they will make much difference when the federal government forces are doing the barest minimum in that part of the country.
Chief, why would a governor arm a paramilitary group with dane guns? Check out guns used by Amotekun, with proper training it is sufficient to hold off such mass murdering spree... or atleast ensure that both sides are counting casualties, frequency of attacks will surely reduce.
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 4:32pm On Jun 16, 2025
It's easy to say some ragtag vigilante groups are the ones keeping states in the South safe when it's not your state faced with the full might of these rampaging terrorists.

In Borno and Yobe under Boko Haram they have civilian JTF which went a long way to help the FG forces. I dont think we have an idea of how this Federal system works when its time to collect allocation every state will have a voice, when its time to deliver, they become voiceless

Maybe we should abolish all states and just be one unitary govt where Abuja is responsible for everything in Omu Aran, Afikpo and Potiskum
Insecurity and Conflict always starts from a state.

All the NAF jets and NA tanks that have been neutralizing attacks so far, are in somebody's state.

Only deaths in Benue alone, might be more than some Northern states, yet we haven't seen the effect of anything from the FG.

Blame Alia, and I am with you, but why are you defending Tinubu on it? You have even descended so low to start comparisons of casualties.

Tinubu should kuku remove Security from his agenda.

20% is still better than 0%. That said the improvements we have seen from SW, Anambra, SE suggests that over time the effectiveness can be more than 20%.

It even provides a bedrock for FG forces to work with. Abuja soldiers coming dont know your terrain like you, If you have something on ground already, its easier to work with FG on it

Why wont the state equip the vigilantes with better weapons? What exactly is their Security votes being used for in these state. If you want to depend on Abuja 100% then return the security money to Abuja

When its time to chop money you remember state right, when its time for responsibility its Abuja

Do they have divisions in every state? No one can know the terrain like the local people. Will it be Audu from Bauchi in Ibadan cantonment that will know the intricacies of Igbo-Ora or Kishi forest in Oyo state

Baba there is actually a paramilitary outfit in Benue state. Please check the link below

On December 14, 2024, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, governor of Benue State, launched the Benue State Civil Protection Guards (BSCPG) a 5,000-personnel security outfit, as well as a State Joint Task force (SJTF) code named “ANYAM NYOR”, comprising all the security apparatuses in the state, aimed at enhancing the safety of lives and property in the state.

When translated properly, Anyam Nyôr simply means “The Lion is Here”. Consequently, this initiative underscores the governor’s administration’s commitment to addressing security challenges and fostering a conducive environment for development.

The establishment of ‘Anyam Nyôr’ is a strategic and critical response to the persistent security issues in Benue State, including communal clashes, banditry, killer herdsmen invasions, and other forms of criminality. By deploying 5,000 well-trained personnel, the BSCPG aims to complement existing security agencies, providing a robust framework for maintaining peace and order.

Now tell me why things has gone worse since December 2024 when the paramilitary outfit was established?

I guess u've seen now that the paramilitary can't do much and it is the federal government's forces that needs to rise to the ocassion

Most of the killings and mass murders happen in the villages far from the capital city, The locals surely know these terrains better. These are the people the state gov will be aligning with

If after this 200, Alia does not form his own by next month then he is not serious. Anyways they have been doing way worse for years and successive govt have been ignoring

You cant use jets and tanks against people in the same community that you cant see where they are mixed with the locals. Only on ground forces can face these types

It actually took people calling him out before he deemed it fit to schedule a visit. His supporters were calling Peter Obi names on twitter when he pointed it out that he was insensitive. Now he is working on that criticism.

Later they will say Peter Obi is just wailing by offering criticism about his action and inactions in governance.

So what exactly has Tinubu done so far to assist security in Benue?

Why is there a Security agenda on his manifesto, if the governors only are responsible for it?

When it is Borno or Sokoto, FG is responsible

When it is any other state in Nigeria, go and form vigilantes.
So when 1Million Boys where disturbing some areas of lagos did we call on the president to sort it out? We have pockets of communal clashes happening with substantial death toll and we all expect the governor to sort it out not the president.

If Tinubu declares SoE in Benue today, then any occurrence becomes his total responsibility, however Alia bears first responsibility whilst Tinubu is secondary.

Not a fan of APC using security challenges to score political point, however Bokoharam directly attacked the Nigerian goverment and seat of power, and moreover Jonathan declared SoE.

Let NC try paramilitary setup, so we can put to bed if these guys are herders and land grabbing murderers or terroist? Right now as an outsider it is looking like murderous land grabbers, and the reason death toll is so high is that they don't face any resistance.

Smh. It's funny that u think Paramilitary can actually make a difference when the federal government forces that are supposed to be supporting are not doing anything at all.

It took the whole public outrage before Tinubu thought of ordering service chiefs to go to Benue. It is a shame! a 4cking disgrace and shame!

You need to understand what you are comparing

People are entering communities with the only aim to kill people. No kidnap, no ransom. Just enter and kill

Is this what you are comparing to people who will let you be, if you give them your phone?

Service chief relocated to Benue weeks ago, did it stop the 200 killing last weekend?

The Service chief that will sit in a guest house in Markurdi with girls and beer while killing is going on in a village 100miles away

We just like all these performative things that dont really matter. You think the terrorists and killers will pass through the hotel of the service chief?
