The battle father Alia is faced with is different from what other governors have had to deal with. Benue has historically been a hotspot for these sort of inter-tribal conflicts...the states you're drawing parallels with have no such history. And I can't for the life of me point to what a dunce like say Okphebolo is doing as regards security in Edo State (in fact he disbanded the state's vigilante) yet Edo State is relatively safe.

Trying to make this issue simply one of an incompetent governor is far from the reality on ground...the issues the people of Benue face requires intervention from the arm of government that has control of police and armed forces funded by our collective wealth.

......The security crisis in Benue ain't primarily about herdsmen killing farmers rather its more of communal clashes, ethnic cleansing or superiority. It is more political than religious and far more complex than many understand.

President Tinubu should declare a state of emergency in the state, but without removing the Governor or launching a full-scale offensive against the perpetrators, as this approach alone will not fully resolve the problem.

Both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches are required. While the Idomas and Tivs are major players, over 100 other tribes in the state are also involved.

I suggest carving out a new state for the Idomas and some minor ethnic groups as part of the solution.
