I want to apply for US visa and the closest appointment date will be around May next year. This will leave my passport with 4 months left on it which will affect the visa, is it possible for me to renew my passport around now or September which will have 1 year left before I now apply for the visa?

You can even decide to renew it even if it's just one year old.

Me and you dey the same shoes. I wan renew my own too as I only have one year left and my appointment might be around December. I wan go tell them l need new one.

You can renew anytime. Just that the remaining years on the old one will be voided. Better you do 10 years new passport. It's better off.

i know you can only renew if you have 6 months or less on your current passport but then again, this is Nigeria, anything can be done na your money go talk,

It wont affect your visa... I have a 5 year visa in an expired passport.. I just take the 2 passports with me.

If you can access Nairaland, I am sure you can access this , https://passport.immigration.gov.ng/

Very possible.

Go with the old passport and other required stuff. They will issue a new one and cancel the old one physically and in their system. My wife did it some years back with ZERO issues.

No no no. You cannot do this. You will have to file a police report and do a lot of other things. If you lie, you will be found out.

Simply tell them you want to get a new passport before the old one expires. You are allowed to do this.

Yep renew it as soon as possible.
Though 4months is enough for most passports but nija na nija

The answer is NO.
It must expire first and show in their system.
Remember what we use now is the E- passport.

I renewed mine 2 months ago, old one ought to expire by dec.
Am about driving to go collect d new one on seeing yr post.

If it's immigrant visa, you can do your interview with your current passport, and you'll renew anytime you like in the US as long as you are not traveling out of the states. But for tourists, it's better you renew your passport before your interview. I will even advise people to hold on for US tourist visa for now, so people don't waste money. Let just hope Nigeria escape the proposed ban sha.

But first meet an immigration officer that you are applying for a 3 years visa with a passport of less than 1 year. They will want to extort you because of that. Thats why damage is better.
