Only a foolish region will wait to be given permission to pull out of a union it did not want. IRELAND did not take permission to leave the UK. Samw goes for the likes od Erutrea South Sudan Pakistan etc. A region fill with lillyliveres cowards tjat can not demand n fight for it freedom does not deserve it. You have to earn it not by your loud noise or chest beating like baboons. SmartPolician: |

Gowon gave Ojukwu 95% of what he asked for at Aburi but Ojukwu still rejected it because as can be seen from his latter to Col Banjo he wanted to be Emperor and Ruler of all Southern Nigeria including Kwara and Benue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTizQJ29wsI?si=ZQpAz4YkhF90F9uy |

Salvation2:Nzeogwu's coup did not cause the war. Thr war did not start unt almost 2 years after Nzeogwus coup It does not matter who advised Gowon to go back on the Aburi agreement, he knew going back on it would cause war, but he did it anyway Gowon 100% caused the war by going back on the peace agreement he signed with Ojukwu |

gidgiddy:If the regions controlled their armed forces, Gowon's Brnue/Plateau would have been safer to live in today. Now one central armed forces can't even defeat a ragtag Islamic insurgents rampaging all over Nigeria. |

Factcheck0001:Why do you people love to lie. Go and watch the video where all the actors involved talked on NTA about Aburi, onukwu said that the tapes were there the everyone see the transcript that he never mentioned regional control of the military, he said the military should be structured to area commands. |

If only they had listened to awolowo suggested the inclusion of that secession clause from the very beginning all these wahala would have been unnecessary. Lack of Foresight and easy concession to superior opinions is the bane of our problems. |

Factcheck0001:Hold on before you say any rubbish. Let us see the historical facts and timelines of Adaka Boro's secession. First of all Boro wanted a Niger Delta of only Ijaws, for someone who was on Eastern region scholarship that was given to him without any discrimination,he was two term SUG president in an igbo dominated UNN and he defeated igbo candidates ooooo. What people failed to realise was that Boro was used by Balewa administration to balkanize the Eastern region to create a crisis similar to the Western region. Again note that it was not Ojukwu that defeated him it was the batallion in Enugu under Lt Col David Ejoor that was dispatched to suppress the rebellion of Boro at Ahoada in Rivers State. Please stop the lies that it was Ojukwu and his people that stopped Boro as it was an Urhobo man a fellow Niger Deltan Lt Col David Ejoor under whose command the rebellion was crushed. Boro was sentenced to death and guess what it was an igbo man, the Supreme Military commander Ironsi that intervened and the sentence was commuted to Life imprisonment. Also on the issue of secession, Zik never made it a treasonable act in the constitution, it was agreed by everyone. In 1956 following the Lancaster talks for independence. Awolowo, Zik and Sardauna all signed a document set by the British that as a precondition for independence, the borders of colonial Nigeria must not be redrawn. So every one agreed to it not just Zik. STOP LYING BROS. |

Goke7:Awolowo didn't talk about secession, the same Awolowo signed the document in 1956 set by the British that indicated that for independence to be granted, the borders of colonial Nigeria must never be touched or redrawn. If he wanted the secession clause, why did he sign the document? |

Christistruth02:Oga no matter how you people tell lies, the truth is there. The aburi tapes are there and the transcripts are there in the archives. The same Gowon signed and agreed and shook hands with Ojukwu and General Ankrah. There is a video showing all of them exchanging pleasantries with Ankrah. If Ojukwu rejected Aburi why was he always saying on Aburi we stand? Make una take am easy to dey lie, you cannot twist history. Now you want to use YouTube to spread your lies. |

IGBOSON1:The Aburi Accord Gowon broke and caused war is one of the major reasons why Nigerian history is not taught in Schools. I laugh when I see people talking about restructuring today, they don't know that Ojukwu fought in Aburi for Nigeria to be restructured so that the 4 Regions that existed at the time would have a sense of belonging in Nigeria But the aim of Gowon and his fellow Northerners was complete control of Nigeria, something that Aburi agreement made impossible So Gowon broke the agreement with Decree 14 which abolished all 4 Regions, and created 12 states, then removed resource control with Decree 15 |
| Re: Aburi Accord Failed Because Ojukwu Wanted Regional Governors To Control Military by Goke7: 6:14pm On Jun 18, 2025 |
Irony1:He suggested or proposed it but was not agreed by all. Our problem is those who lack foresight and understanding of things will always want to go back and desire what those who had the foresight wanted initially. That’s still the issue with state police and restructuring today. We’ve had conferences and white paper on these issues but will never agree on them until the implications and consequences start staring us in our faces. Common tax reform sef na wahala We need to do better by listening to ourselves more instead of our having our personal sentiments in the way all the time. |

How come we are just hearing this story several decades after? How convenient, since Ojukwu is not alive to respond to this. This attempt at redemption is futile. The fact is that it was in your hands to avoid the war. Nigeria would have been alot better if not for the war Racoon: |

Irony1:It is very obvious you never listened to the Tapes or read the Transcript. You were just trained to parrot Ojukwu's lies Ojukwu at Aburi claimed that almost 10,000 of his people had been killed in the North Do you agree to that now? Ojukwu also refused to give the Eastern Minorities any concessions or rights over their own homeland Remember that they too were slaughtered in the North and you can't tell us that Ojukwu represented Adaka Boros people at Aburi Do you agree to that too now? |
