This post is for those who have DIY scanners and want to check the performance of their vehicles Oxygen sensors and how to Identify the Symptoms of it's malfunction or performance issues. Oxygen sensor is crucial for emission regulation and engine efficiency. This device monitors oxygen levels in exhaust gases, helping to adjust the air-fuel mixture for optimal engine operation. Oxygen sensor before catalyst: Also known as the primary sensor or topwater, it’s located in the exhaust manifold, before the catalyst. Its function is to measure oxygen content immediately upon exiting the engine, influencing the mix of air and fuel. Operation: Oxygen sensors use a zirconium dioxide element that generates volts depending on the difference in oxygen between exhaust gases and outdoor air. ️️ Voltage Range: Oscillation between 0.1V and 0.9V. A low voltage (0.1V) indicates a poor mixture (excess oxygen), while a high (0.9V) suggests a rich mixture (less oxygen). Oscillation: The signal must oscillate several times per second. A low frequency could be an indicator of wear and tear or the presence of contaminants. Rear catalyst oxygen sensor: This sensor, also called downstream or secondary, is located behind the catalyst. Their primary task is to monitor the efficiency of the catalyst, comparing oxygen levels before and after the catalytic conversion. It operates in a similar way to the primary sensor, generating a voltage based on the oxygen level. Voltage Range: It is more stable, usually around 0.45V when the catalyst is working properly. Signal comparison: If the signals of this sensor match those of the previous sensor, it may mean a failure in the catalyst, which activates the Check Engine light.

@cardoctor hello sir, scanned my 2003 toyota yaris with p0141 error code. pls which o2 sensor is faulty? the one in front of the engine/manifold block opposite the cooling fans or the one under the car attached to the exhaust |

nitt:The one under attached to the exhaust I.e, post catalyst |
