…As Wike reiterates call for prompt payment of taxes

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Thursday, June 19, 2025 officially commissioned the newly constructed Collector Road CN2, popularly known as the Zakari A. Kyari Street, which links Ahmadu Belo Way by Mabushi District to Katampe District by the Judges Quarters and other surrounding roads.

In his address during the commissioning ceremony, President Tinubu, through his representative, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon.Benjamin Okezie Kalu expressed immense pleasure and joy at the completion of the road, saying it reflects the commitment of the Federal Government to urban development and improving the quality of life for citizens of the country.

He emphasized that the commissioning was more than just opening a road, stressing that it was about opening communities, supporting growth, and addressing the emerging posterity.

The President stated that the road project will significantly reduce traffic and travel time as well as enhance connectivity in the Katampe and Mabushi Districts and other adjoining areas.

He commended the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, and his team for prioritizing infrastructure delivery, and extended appreciation to CGC Nigeria Limited for the prompt and efficient execution of the project.

He also pledged continued investment in infrastructure projects that will positively impact of Nigerians, reassuring that the government remains committed to ensuring that every citizen feels the impact of good governance through ongoing and future infrastructure projects.

According to him, "My administration will continue to invest in critical infrastructure – roads, bridges, housing, transport, education, and health – because we understand that infrastructure is the foundation of national development, and that infrastructure is not an expenditure; it's a good investment for the people,"

President Tinubu acknowledged the temporary inconveniences to residents of Mabushi, Katampe and the surrounding areas during the construction phase and thanked them for their patience and cooperation, while also calling on residents to protect and preserve the newly commissioned road.

Speaking in his personal capacity, Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu lauded the FCT Minister for consistently delivering on projects, noting that the Parliament is highly impressed with his services. "Time and again last year, the FCT Minister did it. There were doubts whether you would repeat it this year. But this year again, you have given us 17 days to commission projects. We are proud of you," Kalu said.

He further assured that the Parliament would never hesitate to approve the FCT Minister's proposals, recognizing his adeptness at investing government resources to positively impact the lives of the people.

"It’s not only the President that is impressed with your services. The Parliament is impressed with your services. Truly, you have projected in reality, not in theory, the aspirations of Renewed Hope Agenda," he added, emphasizing that the principles guiding the Renewed Hope Agenda are being brought to life".

Earlier in his remarks, the FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his continued support and for identifying with the FCT during the commissioning of completed infrastructure projects.

Barrister Wike also commended the contractor, CGC Nigeria Limited for completing the project ahead of schedule and for showing capacity, stressing that the Collector Road CN2 is the fourth project executed by company being commissioned recently, with others including projects in Gishiri, Wasa and the Greater Abuja Water Supply project.

The Minister clarified that while the road benefits the Judges Quarters, its connectivity extends to numerous other areas, significantly enhancing accessibility across the district.

He also underscored the economic impact of the new road, noting that property values in the area have significantly increased following its completion.

Barrister Wike also used the occasion to appeal to residents to fulfill their civic duty by paying ground rents, emphasizing that these revenues are crucial for funding infrastructure development. "If you don't pay, nobody will provide this infrastructure. The only thing the city has is to collect tax," he asserted, calling on "big men" who often default on payments to take responsibility.

Minister of State, FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, who was represented by the Head of Service, FCTA, Mrs. Grace Adayilo also thanked President Tinubu for his unwavering support to the FCT Administration and further praised the FCT Minister for his commitment to infrastructure provision in the FCT.

Providing a technical overview of the project, Acting Executive Secretary of the FCDA, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, explained that the contract for Collector Road CN2 and other adjoining roads was awarded to provide engineering infrastructure in the Mabushi and Katampe Distrcis in the phase II of the Federal Capital City which was lacking over the years, adding that the road will open up the Districts for further development.

He said the scope of the project include the construction of Collector Road CN2, a dual carriageway with two lanes each, and various other local and minor single-carriage roads within Katampe District. All the roads, he stated, are equipped with essential engineering infrastructure, including surface water drainage, culverts, wastewater drainage systems, water supply networks, telecommunication ducts, and street lighting.

MD, CGC Nigeria Limited, Zhong Xiang thanked the FCT Minister for trusting them with the responsibility, while also extending appreciation to the local communities for their support during the project delivery.

Chief Nyesom Wike should start incorporating greenery in his road projects. All he has done thus far are looking bland with clay soil defacing the setbacks and median.

If you're observant you'll notice that there are designs and spaces for the greenery and final landscaping and street/security lightenings in all the roads he's constructing. The greenery will definitely be planted and gradually it will grow.

No be flowers, plants and trees?

Do you also wonder why Europeans ensure that their leaders prioritise the employment of technicians, engineers, administrators etc to make pipe borne water available to all households?

How many Nigerian cities and towns have water supply 24/7 with adequate pressure and of excellent quality?

Water Scarcity Hits Maitama, Embassies Affected

Tue, 25 Feb 2025

A severe water scarcity has hit the downtown area of Maitama District in the Federal Capital City over the last two weeks, Abuja Metro reports.

Many parts of the affluent neighbourhood have been struggling with lack of pipe-borne water as the Federal Capital Territory Water Board supply has been off.

https://dailytrust.com/water-scarcity-hits-maitama-embassies-affected/
The lack of state-owned pipe-borne water in the homes of Lagos residents has continued to be a source of concern, a non-profit group, Corporate Accountability and Public Advocacy Africa (CAPPA) has said.

At a press event to mark this year’s World Water Day, the group said its monitoring team’s visit to state-owned waterworks showed that most of them are not operational.

The group said the waterworks it visited include the ones at Maryland, Mushin, Ikorodu, Obalende, Agbowa, Onikan, Ikoyi, and Amuwo Odofin.

Only the one in Ikoyi is producing water, according to CAPPA.

If you don’t have hatred and bitterness for the truth, you won’t be calling Wale Edun a liar.

thisweekng:
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Chief Olawale Edun has said the last time Nigeria’s economy looked stable was about a decade ago.

He made this statement during his maiden press conference as Minister of Finance where he outlined President Bola Tinubu’s vision, agenda and strategy for the economy.

He said, “I think as we all know, we are not where we should be. The economy is barely growing above the rate of population growth.

“But it was not always so, and I think in trying to look at the way forward, if we now have a situation of slow growth, double-digit inflation, weak/depreciating exchange rate, as well as security concerns that are resulting in an economy that is not growing and not taking Nigerians out of poverty.

“If we think back to the last time when the economy was stable- when it was growing, when inflation was low, and the interest rate was affordable, that period was about a decade ago. Growth was about 6% in 2013 and 2014.”

If the roads are common then there won't be need to build one or commission it ahead of schedule...Wike might not "deserve" credit for this roads he had been building in Abuja but credit is "due" to him....

The only jobless people I see are people like you who complain and wail over good thing but feels satisfied to see bad news and protest when no bad news because the Nigerians who worked on the projects know and feel the value from masons to iron benders to mama foods to pure water seller all through the time of construction are not complaining or wailing but looking forward to the next major road construction and the circle continues until election time comes when people like you will be wondering again how Tinubu was elected by Nigerians again.... Una own na play true true grin
