Why did Ojukwu support Gen Ironsi to scrap the. Regional Autonomy then ?

Why didn't he try to persuade Gen Ironsi to give each region full control of at least it's own Police Force then if Ojukwu wasn't being deceitful and duplicitous

How do you prevent a nation blind to the reasons behind its own civil war from marching, once again, into the abyss of another civil war?


My take is that Ohaneze should not argue with anyone, make your points clear for posterity ,they should just fold their hands and watch, Nigeria like the proverbial sheep without shepherd will go into the same cataclysmic scenario that caused the first war.

That's what Ojukwu told Gowon at Aburi, that events had shown that Nigeria needs to be run as a more loose federation so that none of the 4 Regions would be dominated through the centre. Gowon initially agreed, and the Aburi agreement was signed. Every Region had greater control resources, would have its own Police and the Army was even zoned according to Regions

Aburi was the last chance for Nigeria to restructured. Only for Gowon to return to Nigeria, use decree 13 to dissolve all 4 Regions and replace them with 12 states, then use Decree 15 to seize all resources. Completely destroying the Aburi agreement

He left Ojukwu with no choice but to declare Biafra

I feel sad when I see ignorant yorubas supporting the war and laughing at the igbos. They don't realise that Britain hated both yoruba & Igbo politicians and did everything necessary to stop them from uniting the south. Azikiwe was going to form a coalition govt with awolowo, then suddenly he renegade on the agreement with the AG and went to join northerners. He dis this because he was blackmailed by the British for using investors money in his bank(African continental Bank) to fund his campaign. Aburi was a meeting organized by the OAU to bring peace
