Nawaoo he shouldn't have had to drop out Sha. He could have deferred then come back when he's saved up enough to continue.

500 level and dropped out?

Wow.

We can't really understand his situation.

I hope he finds his feet and rise to achieve his goals.
He needs STRONG PRAYERS. See money that has been WASTED, money that he could have used to better his life. He's brilliant but some evil powers are ready to WASTE HIS TIME IN LIFE.

I went through the same path, and I tell you for free it's not a palatable experience. I was able to graduate only by the grace of God.

Self funding in the university comes with its own set of frustration, and depression.

Happened to me, reason I dropped out of engineering, got a part-time job and switched to accounting, an easier course I was able to take part-time while working to support myself. He should not have dropped out totally.

This is so sad. Medicine is a very expensive course to pursue.

He shouldn't have kept the problem to himself. I am certain if he told his classmates and they informed their parents, one or two parents may decide to sponsor the rest of his education.

The problem here isn't that he could not afford his fees. The problem here is not asking for help from the right people.
Bro, may you never see a problem that overwhelms you.... You can't think straight. In Yoruba, it is said that "we all pray that we don't fall, but when we fall, we'll be left struggling not to lose our life in the process."

I know someone who spent 17 years in the university. At the end, no certificate to show.

It's a crazy world we live out here. May we not see the ugly side of life when we're still struggling to define our lives.

You can be critical of this government...but Nelfund is what we have never had.... Believe me. Nelfund is a very good government policy
I agree... But it could be way by better.

For a start, Why just school fees? Why doesn't it cover other financially stressful parts of schooling such as hostel fees and so on. Secondly, there's a monthly stipend of 20k giving to beneficiaries, which, IMHO, is too little to take care of a school kid through out a month, let alone an undergraduate.

The government would do well to borrow a leaf 🌿 from the Norwegian government: Undergraduates there receive around NOK10000 per month as loan/grant, till they graduated ( tution is free , so no own pays anything for public universities). Afterwards, they only 60% of that loan after graduation.

Again, brilliant initiative from Tinubu, but the programme has significant room for improvement.

So sad. Some of us who never had to think about school fees never knew how lucky we were...

Nigerian doctor shares a recent encounter with an ex-classmate of his from medical school who now hawks things to make a living.
The doctor identified as Dr. Cheta took to Facebook to reveal that from their chat, the ex-classmate had revealed that he had been the one sponsoring his own medical education.
However, he had to drop out at 500 level since he couldn’t afford to continue paying his fees, and had no support from anyone.
His words …

This sounds somehow
He couldn't take leave of absence to hustle
He couldn't apply for indigent scholarship
He couldn't join one fellowship or Muslim community
He didn't have one uncle or aunt that was impressed with him getting to 500 level that would sponsor him even if he will repay
This story no pure once u get to 500 or 600level the only thing that can stop you is if u fail or lose your mind..failing in 500 or 600 level to the point of being sent out is almost impossible..only mental health challenge can stop you at that point
There is more to this story.

500Level in medical school and dropped out? This is not ordinary and really hard to believe.... probably dropped out cos he couldn't cope or had a lot of carry-over or so.....at 500L medical school, na na na....You are already a doctor but yet to be certified and dropped out because of money......Na na na.....that's a lie.....it's ain't true.......at that level and you are doing well.....even your school can help out or your church or even one of your lecturers can help out for that one year remaining...If actually he's in 500L and doing quite well in his studies.....he can't drop out cos of money.....

God bless you for that response.....It's not possible to drop out at 500L except you have been failing since and had much carry-over to choke you out of the system.....

That is the problem with some of you. "He shouldn't have kept the problem to himself". Do u not know how wicked people are these days?
Nobody will help him. If it was a lady, she would have gotten help. There are many of his kind around you, how many have u been able to help even with the littlest things?

A lot of what you said here is right. At the end of the day, it all depends on our individuality, size of the problem, and the way we se it.

I don't want to sound like Peter in the Bible and be cocky, neither do I want to see things in a negative way.

Well-said and very insightful. But we humans don't think like that. We operate on the basis of "all things being equal". All things being equal, the guy would have graduated and brought his work ethic to being a doctor and become a very successful doctor - all things being equal!
Wishful thinking! Which one rich guy are you talking about?

Oh God, I claim this. And I work hard in this direction. The day I will make it in this life, and I can sleep comfortably without thinking of what to eat the next day, and can be able to help my friends and families, I would be the happiest human on Earth. Poverty is worse than any type of cancer in this world especially for a young man. Poverty kills confidence, I mean the kind of confidence needed to excel. Its not a good thing

If the story was shared on Twitter now X, then it is a lie fabricated to gain impression and earn Elon Musk's dollar. They are all hustlers like Reno Omockery who hustles so hard to earn his Twitter peanut which couldn't afford him a good life, reason he damned the consequences and started supporting Tinubu shamelessly after all the insults he hauled at Tinubu.

Anyway, by 2027, Reno Omockery will regret ever swallowing his vomit after Tinubu is sent parking from Aso Rock, which has been sealed already lipsrsealed

As an orphan and a Nigerian, it often feels like life is already five steps ahead of you while you're starting from minus two.

This would have been my reality in law school. I thank God for the friends who came through for me. Some family members even told me to drop out. While my colleagues were focused on their books, I was constantly, and painfully, broke.

One thing I always told myself was: as long as I have life in me, I won’t give up. Sometimes, I would go seven days straight without food. Yet, I kept studying.

It was the most difficult phase of my life so far.

But today, all the tears have long dried up, and it almost feels like I never went through any of that. I'm deeply grateful to God for His divine grace.

This is a public forum. One must watch one types. I do help when I can.

You have probably suffered from the hands of mean and tightfisted people. That's where you're coming from.

I notice a lot of people are wary of asking for help due to what you said.

I spoke from the place of pains because that is what I'm passing through at the moment. I've lost every confidence in Humanity. Only the grace of God can help me change that mindset now

You didn't annoy me at all. What I meant was that any issue concerning how one spends money should be discreet. We have lots of scammers here.

I don't believe this, sorry. After getting to 500l as a medical student, you dont just drop out... you are already too big an asset. There are many ways to get funding from that point. Package yourself well, and go to banks, your local government, police stations, any big office really. Heck, beg your fellow students but don't just drop out, not because of fees anyway... I suspect he just got mentally and psychologically drained and just decided to quit struggling. Medical school can do that to a person.

Mad respect for those guys that scale through it.
