So sad. Some of us who never had to think about school fees never knew how lucky we were...

Nigerian doctor shares a recent encounter with an ex-classmate of his from medical school who now hawks things to make a living.
The doctor identified as Dr. Cheta took to Facebook to reveal that from their chat, the ex-classmate had revealed that he had been the one sponsoring his own medical education.
However, he had to drop out at 500 level since he couldn’t afford to continue paying his fees, and had no support from anyone.
His words …

This is so painful because I know how it feels 500 level medical school it's not child's Play, truly those who are lucky to have someone to Carter for their school fees Don't know how lucky they are same thing happened to me in 2013 I had to drop out to focus as a man go find money , mine was 200 level , the only support I got was from my mom but she lost her Job at that time , it's painful this reminded me of my experience but we thank God for the gift of life , no matter what never give up keep pushing.

you are not lying.... it's a cruel world out there. I would not blame those that decided not to help cos many kind hearted people are easily taken for granted and called foolish.life na jungle.

Abegi. Story story story on Nigeria air space. 500 level and drop out? If you do ejor ejor, they may let you continue but seize your results. At least give you time to do business and gather the money to pay up. Maybe the guy no pass and had to withdraw.

Sometimes it’s better to defer admission for 1-2yrs and work for your school money, save and then proceed to school. Especially in course like Medicine where you can’t successfully work and go to school. 2years behind your mates is not the end of the world, you may even advance more than them and be more successful in the end.
It might be true cos as a medical student if you are not meeting up, you will be forced to withdraw or switch to a less demanding department.
His lack of support might have affected his performance and he was forced to withdraw or switch departments.
It happens in Nigeria universities

If past administrations had been forward-thinking like Tinubu, a student loan like we have it now would have most likely changed this man’s story

The school authorities should be called to look into the issue. They need to absorb him back into the system to round up his program. What kinda mess up is this nahuh

He should have opted of a less demanding course like SLT, radiography or biochem
exactly or even do a science course of 4 years

That's life bro some persons road to success are rough while some are easy likewise some are born with silver spoon and some are born with the same type but doesn't get the support needed do to selfishness and so on while some don't have the spoon, so one has to struggle hard, adapt and make a living, with the right mindset nothing is permanent that's for sure, life goes on.

Sad reality of life. I dropped out in 400 level. Thank God I picked the tattered up again and rejigged, went back and started again. Now taking my second degree!

Life has no manual and everyone is just trying the best. It’s not sure for anyone. This is why you should not envy anyone. It’s all circular and the rallying point is thr dot in the middle of a circle.

Life for rent by dido says it all!

This sounds somehow
He couldn't take leave of absence to hustle
He couldn't apply for indigent scholarship
He couldn't join one fellowship or Muslim community
He didn't have one uncle or aunt that was impressed with him getting to 500 level that would sponsor him even if he will repay
This story no pure once u get to 500 or 600level the only thing that can stop you is if u fail or lose your mind..failing in 500 or 600 level to the point of being sent out is almost impossible..only mental health challenge can stop you at that point
There is more to this story.
It was lack of money that drove him out, NOT that he failed. I'd have agreed with you if this were a blogger posting it. But it is a private post by a medical doctor with nothing to gain

That's the heart-breaking part. 500 level!
Now I think of it, there has to be more to the story. One rich guy in his community would have paid his way, knowing he'd get his money back plus a doctor who'd be always happy to treat him😎
You are funny o. So you don't know that some people in the community will be praying for him to drop out? May you never see what I saw in the hands of "people from my community."

Unlike some of us that thought we were doing our parents a great favor "wasting time" in school (instead going out to chop life and to become millionaires grin)

Honestly, I know what you mean. One very intelligent babe told me how she couldn't travel abroad because the rich guy sponsoring her education became jealous (she thinks) once he saw she had secured admission plus part scholarship

500 Level and dropped out..? How?
When only one year is left....
Could it be due to Psyche issues
If that's true, the he can be of help to restore the pathway again for him.
Meet with the school authorities to reestablish that connection and see that he graduates. Do that for him.
If issues are encountered, please don't hesitate to let us know..🙏🏾🙏🏾
You don't know how long ago that was they were in med school together

This is the sad reality for some.

That is why one of the programmes that this Tinubu administration implemented and which I am very satisfied with is the Student Loan Scheme. No Nigerian student should have to drop out for lack of ability to pay tuition fees.
Are you sure this student loan thing is really working? Do you know anybody who has obtained the loan and how much?

This is so sad. Medicine is a very expensive course to pursue.

He shouldn't have kept the problem to himself. I am certain if he told his classmates and they informed their parents, one or two parents may decide to sponsor the rest of his education.

The problem here isn't that he could not afford his fees. The problem here is not asking for help from the right people.
Hmmm, are you sure? You don't think the parents have their own problems, poor relatives, and projects? Anyway I've never seen any parent do this for a classmate

Fact. You need to hustle thrice as much as you would in other countries of the world for you to keep your head above the waters in Nigeria.
This is true. Nigeria is a TERRIBLE place to be poor

The reality of life..

You must have finance to get degrees, certifications etc.. reason class of degree isn't the true measure of a student's worth.
Some are just going through a lot, doing all they can to survive while others have peace of mind with enough support from their families.
The outcomes of the two scenarios above will be different even though the student at a disadvantage might be far more brilliant than the comfortable ones performing well in class

In summary.. life no balance.
This is true. I remember this one guy, older guy, no sponsor plus he had a wife and kid. Of course he eventually dropped out. I later learnt he died in a car accident (RIP OG)

You're right. I remember one guy, he was admitted 3 years ahead of us but due to difficulties we all graduated at same time. Today he's the most successful of the whole set, basically a billionaire
