Nigeria Must Fence Its Borders To Be Secure - Musa

It's high time cattle ranches/grazing reserves should be established. The recent killings and attacks in Edo & Benue states between farmers and herders have become a recurring incident; the rate seems to be increasing in recent times. It appears the word FORGIVENESS is not in the dictionary of both parties; hence, the almost vicious cycle of attacks and counter- attacks
It is not like Nigeria doesn't know what to do. Hardly 5yrs ago this same solution was raised but it was hijacked with the idiotic politics of tribe/religion. If you point it out, minions (like the one who appeared when I talked on the border issue) will crawl out.

In this country, strive not to be among the dead because you won't be avenged.

On the short term FG ought to sanitize the Immigration service/border patrols and make scapegoats of those who connive with illegals, then increase their size.
If the law enforcement agencies are the first to shit on the law, what do we expect

It is great that we are at last alive to this threat.
However, i doubt if a border as long as ours can be fenced sustainably given the resources available to us. Dont forget the fence would also need patrol and maintenance, not just construction.
We need to take some time and learn how other countries with extensive borders manage their borders, may be a combination of patrols, drones, radar and sensors plus stiff punishment for people crossing the border outside regulated corridors etc.
In conclusion, it will need some work before we can establish a functional and sustainable solution.

The solution will be this combination. Walls alone is wishful thinking. The first and most important thing though is political will power and commitment

As you know, we are also dealing with the same issue. Thankfully, no terrs, just people, drugs and cigarettes being smuggled in, with stolen vehicles and livestock going out. This article does a good job of laying out the available domestic tech to tackle our porous borders.

NIGERIA'S FIRST FEMALE FIGHTER PILOT WINS TOP AWARDS IN GHANA

Flight Lieutenant Kafayat Omolara Sanni, Nigeria’s first female fighter pilot, has once again made history by emerging as the Best Allied Student and winner of the Best Assistant Commandant Paper at the prestigious Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), Accra. The awards were presented on 20 June 2025, during the College’s graduation ceremony, attended by top military officials and dignitaries from across Africa.

Flt Lt Sanni’s impressive records first made headlines in 2019 when she was decorated as the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) first female fighter pilot after completing her pilot training in the United States. Since then, she has flown the Alpha Jet as well as undertaken training sorties on the Super Mushshak as a prolific instructor pilot, producing and mentoring younger pilots for the NAF.

Her outstanding performance at GAFCSC not only symbolizes personal excellence and resilience but also underscores Nigeria’s growing leadership in regional defence and commitment to gender inclusion in the armed forces. This remarkable achievement further reflects the Nigerian Air Force’s strategic investment in human capital development under the visionary leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar.

COMMANDER 6 BRIGADE LEADS DEEP CLEARANCE OPERATIONS IN SOUTHERN TARABA, DESTROYS BANDIT CAMPS AND RECOVERS AMMUNITION

In a sustained effort to eliminate criminal elements undermining the peace and security of communities in Taraba State, the Commander 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, led troops of the newly established Forward Operating Base (FOB) Wukari in a robust two-day clearance operation across parts of Southern Taraba.

The intensive operation, conducted between 19 and 20 June 2025, targeted identified bandit enclaves and suspected criminal hideouts in Wukari and Takum Local Government Areas.

On 19 June 2025, troops advanced along the High Tension route through Chonku to Gor Road, sweeping through villages including Lortema, Gudu, Mbayenge, and Teyotima in Wukari LGA. Strategic areas such as river lines, high grounds, abandoned settlements, and known terrorist hideouts were thoroughly searched.

At Teyotima village, credible intelligence indicated that the mother of a notorious criminal, ANGBA (FNU), popularly known as “YELLOW,” resides in the area. The suspect is believed to use the village as a safe haven. Troops cordoned off and searched the area, but no weapons or suspects were found.

Further operations extended to Ikayior village, known to be the home of another wanted criminal, AKIKI UTIV, alias “FULL FIRE.” Troops uncovered and dismantled a bandit camp within the village. A search of the premises led to the recovery of 14 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition loaded in an AK-47 magazine. The camp was subsequently destroyed to prevent its future use by criminal elements.

On 20 June 2025, troops continued clearance operations through Chanchangi, Jam Kaanan, Hingir, Ukum, and Nbaume villages in Takum LGA without enemy contact. However, at Mande Atsager, identified as the hideout of wanted bandit leader VERIOR JOHN GATA, troops encountered hostile fire. The bandits, overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower, fled into the surrounding forest, abandoning their camp.

A search of the location revealed a building with four in-built detention cells, suspected to have been used to hold kidnapped victims pending ransom payments. Troops also discovered a shrine containing a human skull, suggesting the use of occult practices in support of criminal activities. The entire area was cleared, and the camp was destroyed.

Commending the troops for their discipline, precision, and resilience, the Commander 6 Brigade reaffirmed the Brigade’s determination to dismantle all criminal networks operating within Taraba State.

He also expressed appreciation for the continued support and cooperation of local communities, especially in providing actionable intelligence that enhances operational outcomes. He urged residents to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.

North Korea has threatened, many times, to use nuclear weapons on South Korea or the US or their allies if necessary to protect its sovereignty. They have launched many ballistic missiles into South Korean and Japanese waters in response to the US and South Korea carrying out training exercises. No one dared to carry out any form of aggression against them.

Russia threatened to attack London with nuclear weapons because the UK was getting on its nerves with the support it was giving Ukraine. Russia questioned the right of Ukraine to exist as a state and says its part of the reasons why they initiated their special military operation. No one ever dared to carry out any form of aggression.

China threatened to reunify Taiwan with mainland China by any means necessary including military force. Though China is committed to a no first use of nuclear weapons, there is no ruling out of the use of said nuclear weapons if the United States interfere.

And now Trump says it’s time for peace after throwing the first punch and threatens that if Iran should retaliate, the United States would respond more brutally compared to the bombing of Iran’s nuclear sites. What a coward move. Mind you, an attack on a nuclear site is no less an attack with nuclear weapons.

Iran also didn’t look for trouble, rather it was Israel that attacked Iran first. Not just in 2025. Even in 2024, the Israelis targeted Iranian embassy in Syria which in itself an attack on Iranian sovereignty. What’s worse, Iran isn’t the only victim of Israel’s aggression. Lebanon and Syria are also victims. The problems of the Middle East can all be traced back to Israel. But nope, some of us choose to stay blind and rather spare the rod and spoil the so called children of God.

And speaking of funding terrorism, don’t even think the US and Israel are saints in that department. The beginning of terrorism started with the US funding and training of Afghan mujahideens to fight the Soviets during the Afghan Soviet war. Not to mention the sponsoring of YPG terrorists in Syria, and the recent confession of US senate revealing that USAiD has been used to support Talibans, Boko Haram et al. But as Lurker4Long said and I quote; “One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter”. At the end of the day, the victors are the ones who get to write history as they see and deem fit. It’s a terrible period for morality in today’s world.

CHIEF OF THE NAVAL STAFF ONE DAY OPERATIONAL VISIT TO BORNO STATE

On Saturday 21 June 2025, the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla embarked on a one-day operational visit to Borno state. His first stop was at the Naval Base Lake Chad (NBLC) where he commended the Nigerian Navy (NN) personnel deployed there for their bravery and resilience on the front lines of the war against Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists. Recall that in the early hours of Wednesday 18 June 2025, the NN personnel effectively repelled an attack by some BHT/ISWAP terrorists neutralising many of them in the process while several others were severely injured. The CNS stated that henceforth the Navy will take the fight to the terrorists and decimate their hideouts on the fringes of the Lake Chad. Thereafter, the CNS paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor of Borno State, His Excellency Professor Babagan Umara Zulum CON mni. The CNS assured the Governor that the NN will redouble its efforts towards securing the Lake Chad area by deploying more men and equipment to NBLC. He also directed the immediate deployment of a Task Force to commence clearing of the water ways using the Swamp Buggies provided by the Governor.

In response the Governor commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria for prioritising the security of Borno State and environs. In particular, he praised the NN personnel of NBLC who he described as resilient in the fight against the terrorists. Finally, the Governor reiterated his commitment to work closely with all security agencies towards defeating the menace of terrorism in the state.

Thereafter, the CNS visited all the injured personnel who were undergoing treatment. He empathised with them and gave assurance that every possible effort will be made to give them quality health care. The CNS visit was a morale booster to the men in the frontlines. The excitement of the men was palpable and effusive. The CNS was accompanied by the Chief of Operations, Rear Admiral Olusegun Ferriera, the Chief of Logistics, Rear Admiral OK Oluwagbire and the Navy Secretary, Rear Admiral Patrick Nwatu. On arrival in Maiduguri, the CNS was received by the Theater Command Operation HADIN KAI, Major General AE Abubakar who also joined his entourage.

Yeah right, Mr Trump is looking to dismantle USAiD meanwhile financially and politically supporting Israel.
What is terrorism…?? The use of violence or intimidation to cause fear among common people for political reasons isn’t it.

The unwarranted, unprovoked bombings, illegal invasions and occupations of parts of Gaza, West Bank, Lebanon and even Syria by Israeli forces causing the inhabitants of the said regions to flee for safety count as terrorism, do you agree with me on that…?? Thanks for defining what terrorism his, I have stated in my previous comments, some Arab countries have been supporting, funding and harboring terrorist organizations, likewise the US government sponsoring terrorism covertly.
One of them attacked Israel on October 7th, An evil act that woke the sleeping lion; thanks to HAMAS, Israeli intelligence might not discover tunnels used for smuggling arms and ammunition into Israel for future attacks.
Whatever is happening to Palestine, Lebanon, and Iran today is a fact and testament of past reality that Israel is surrounded by enemies and they can never be trusted. Israel has learnt a lesson from the Six-Day War and Yom Kippur War, They cannot afford to lower there gaurd down.
