I bought a new MTN line 2 weeks ago.

Prior to this, I had only one mtn line. So I bought another one making it 2.

So today I had issues with my KUDA account, and I needed to give a number linked to my NIN. I gave my first MTN line. But they said it was not linked to my NIN.

This was a shock. I asked the customer care rep to check again, and they did. It was the same response.

I gave my new line, but they couldn't use it since it was very new.

I then decided to check if my first MTN is linked to my NIN

Lo and behold it was not.

But the second/new line was.

That is not even the craziest part.

I found 3 other numbers linked to my NIN.

Numbers I don't know about.

Ahhhh.

Kilode

When did I have 4 MTN lines that I don't know about.

So first question, how do I unlink those strange numbers? Someone please help.

Secondly, can I get arrested if anyone using the other numbers commit a crime and the number is traced?
I went same process recently
Just go to the mtn office they will delink and reregister.

Dial *996# then select (4) View NIN statue. Then you select View numbers link to your NIN. Call MTN customer care line on 300. They will remove it for you

Unlink the unknown numbers. That's the solution.
That is a solution, but it might not be the final solution. The fact is that those numbers have been linked to His already.

He might also want to 1) complain to His network service provider or NiMC , 2) Swear an affidavit detailing the facts and 3) Make a police report concerning the matter.

How do NIN allow random numbers to be assigned without the owner's permission
I think that system is totally messed up. Anyone who still thinks they can use it to fight crime in its current form is deluded. They have to audit it to clean it up.

I used to have same issues. In my own case, it was linked to the line I lost long ago. I was surprised I dialed the line and it went.

I told the MTN office worker that the number linked is my old line. How he did it I don't know

Dial *996#

Then pick option 4 (I think, or select appropriate no.). A text will be sent to you showing all numbers linked to your NIN.

Go to the MTN Office, not those guys that you see on the road, when you go there, tell them you want to remove those numbers that you don't recognize and you want to link your NIN to your two numbers - do that first thing on Monday morning!
Re: Can I be arrested for this? by Father4all: 4:54pm On Jun 22, 2025
Very simple brother. Write the numbers that aren't linked to your MTN line out. Go to the nearest MTN office tell them you don't know how the numbers got to your phone. Tell them to unlink it, they will do it quickly. Thars all.

See a lawyer and make your cool money. They have to explain how those numbers were registered with your nin without your biometrics. Then immediately report your old number you've been using without being linked to your nin ro FCCPC .They have a lot of explaining to do. They're supposed to have delisted all unlinked numbers since May, 2024.

Just pray that none of those lines have ever been used to call Turji, Shekahu, Evans and Abdulrahman Bello etc.

This is why you should never buy and register your sim card from all these roadside sellers. They’ll use your NIN to do other sim registrations. Buy from direct known outlets.
I bought new sim from mtn office, since the first day I insert that sim I keep receiving severals calls from loan shark.
Worse was I tried registering Opay and palmpay and I was told the number is already registered. That was how I tried forgot pass option and it works.

There's 223k unpaid loan on Palmpay Flexi loan... Name the account is registered to is woman.

maybe that number was previously associated with another person before they abandoned that line and that number assigned to you. It is very bad for these networks to do this without diligence, but no fret, the ladies NIN and details are attached to those accounts.

Yes you can be arrested and probably go to jail if they use the sim to commit any crime, they have used you to do ojobo( during your registration the agent used your NIN to register other Sim cards and sold it to people as pre registered sim card. If you check very well the day they registered your MTN they captured you more than once, telling you that either the machine is not accepting your picture or it is clear enough.
the only people that can help you is NIMC.
