Ok. 75% is a national emergency. This is scary if true
And as a Dr. you actually believe it is possible to have 75% HIV prevalence in Nigeria. Lol

It doesn't matter what I believe. If the data clearly show that the prevalence has skyrocketed to 75%, your job, as a researcher, is to disprove this by pointing out any existing limitations in the report and going into the field to conduct your own study.

There is a high rate of HIV infections in Lagos especially in the island.
Those people there too like chuku chuku especially their married women.

Play safe y'all.
If it was in Lagos, it wouldn't be concentrated on the island.

False statistics.

Not to say, sleeping around with random people is healthy, but the information the lady is spreading is fake.

She said it was 50 percent before and now its 75 percent. 50 percent of what? 75: percent of what? If you say 50 percent of the population, you mean, there were 1,350,000 people living with HIV in abuja before and now there are about 2,250,000 people.

Assuming there are 3.5 million people in Abuja, actually there are about 45,500 people recorded that are living with HIV Which is 1.3 percent of the population.

States with the highest percentage of hiv in Nigeria are, akwa ibom with 5.5 percent, Benue with 5.3 percent and Rivers with 3.8 percent of the population.

This particular part of her statement has made me conclude that she is just an attention seeker.

In the first place is she the appropriate authority to release hiv statistics for Nigeria??

That said, the general point is correct. People need to be careful as our society has become far too promiscuous.

Sex doesn't appeal to me much like that nowadays plus i don't indulge in adultery.

My peace of mind is paramount to me.

People's attention is always on sex whenever dey hear HIV. A lot of people do kiss each other without having sex and thereby contact HIV without knowing it.

Dey there: That's for only those who get tested. Simple logic shows that illicit sex with a partner you can't vouch for exposes you to the danger of literally sleeping with maybe 50 people. What are the odds one of them doesn't have it. Slim.

Yes, there are ARVs but at this rate when so many people start lookng for the meds, you would be at the mercy of the government for your life. Go and see how PLWHA people are queueing in hospitals because their lives depend on it. Its medication for life and you can't afford to skip the dose for a single day no matter where or what you are doing. If the virus doesn't kill them, hypertension will.

An elder who is really close to me had to undergo surgery recently for an unrelated illness so they ran multiple tests on him and yes, he was positive. I saw the results live and I almost fainted.

Lets be careful. The level of damage of this thing would soon show in a few years from now.
Science is evidence-based and not beer parlor talk. Science is not based on "I think or I've seen" but verifiable evidence based on research and hard facts.

Dalohad:
The so called 'Doctor' either wants to trend or got her fact mixed up in a bid to rush to social media and gain followers.

It is not statistically possible for the prevalence of HIV to jump from 5% to 75% within 5 years. What it means is that if you are 10 peoplw in your family living in Lagos, at least 7 of your family members now have HIV.

Gen Z people, stop rushing to propagate your opinion on matters that you really do not have proper grasp.

Stop this your urge to rush to social media with you ADHD, take time to read and have the fact before pushing out your videos out there. Use your head.

Bloggers stop pushing out everything without fact-checking. Everything is not content.

Only the Health ministry or WHO should disseminate this kind of information.
You said the absolute truth. 75% is unreasonable and unrealistic

HIV can spread through kissing if and only if there are open sores in the mouth during the act. People have sex with HIV+ people and still don't have HIV. If it was that transmissible the rate will be terrible.

What were the sample groups?

The last large-scale sentinel study used the groups at highest risk as the source of its sample population. Moreover, there will be differences from state to state due to several social factors. Typically, HIV prevalence is lowest in areas where strict Islamic practices are in place. Morocco, Algeria, etc have less than 0.5% national prevalence rates.
There are numerous population-based studies to corroborate the above, likewise lots of systematic analysis and meta analysis studies

The prevalence of HIV in Lagos State, Nigeria, is estimated to be around 1.4% among adults aged 15-64, according to Sage Journals. While this is slightly lower than the national average, Lagos is still a high-burden state,The 2024 NDHS findings also corroborate the above. Science is evidence evidence-based.

75% haba. There is no where in the world with this prevalence, not even East and Central Africa. Like I said science is evidence based not fabrication or hearsay.

In summary: A Nigerian female doctor has warned about the alarming rise in HIV cases in Abuja and Lagos, urging sexually active individuals to get tested immediately. Speaking at a doctors' symposium, she revealed that HIV prevalence, which was around 5% in 2020, has surged to over 75%, suggesting one in ten people may now be infected. Lagos and Abuja reportedly have the highest rates.

She emphasized that even married couples should test regularly, as partners may engage in extramarital affairs. "Protection doesn’t always help," she cautioned, advising tests every six months. An NGO’s hospital data showed a 50% increase in cases compared to the previous year, underscoring the rapid spread.

Her message: regardless of trust, everyone should prioritize testing to detect HIV early or stay cautious if negative. She urged viewers to act swiftly, stressing that the situation is severe and evidence-based. "Before any sexual relationship, get tested—safety measures can fail," she concluded. (200 words)

Have you heard about oral test of HIV? They are no longer using blood to carry out HIV test.
They'll just insert the kits into your mouth and it'll bring out your HIV status within some minutes

I understand that the prevalence may be have increased from 5% but for they to say its 75percent that's my issue

That means in 100 people, 75 percent are positive. I remember in 2010 or there about if I am not mistaken, the incidence in the suburban of Abuja, Nyanyan to be precise shot up but It has never reached 75 percent include those how could have contracted in via mother to Chile transmission, sharing of sharps and needles and thru the good old intimacy
