It doesn't matter what I believe. If the data clearly show that the prevalence has skyrocketed to 75%, your job, as a researcher, is to disprove this by pointing out any existing limitations in the report and going into the field to conduct your own study.
Is this blog post a research study. Have you read the journal where it was published? Who conducted the study?

There is nothing to disprove. Do you know what 75% prevalence of HIV is?

I earned a Doctorate in the field of infectious diseases, and our Diagnostic laboratory centers generate real-time laboratory data everyday. In fact, our Medical Scientists publish findings and trends every six months. We have not found such trend. A steep jump from 5% to 75% doesn't just happen overnight. Medical Laboratories and Hospitals would pick it up during clinical testing.

I tell you that there is no research data that says HIV prevalence is 75% anywhere in Nigeria. It is totally unfathomable.

That content creator 'Doctor' is simply feeding on sensationalism to gain attention. She is lying.

Healthcare is beyond switching on ring light and opening your mouth in front of a phone camera.

For those doubting these stats, I want you to visit any sex leak site in Nigeria, and tell me if you see a single video with the participants using condom/protection. It's virtually impossible to come across a sex video in Nigeria where the participants are using protection. These aren't even porn videos, I'm talking about regular folks having sex on a daily basis with different partners. Given how immoral we've become in this country, I have absolutely no doubt that these stats are accurate. A typical Nigerian girl has no less than 3 guys she's sleeping with at every point in her life.
And a typical Nigerian man has how many?

Until it gets to 95% before people take it seriously. That is, you are almost the only person that doesn’t have it.

Anyone who believes this cannot be a doctor. 75% means that three out of every 4 people in the country have HIV.It is a big lie.
HIV is a big problem, people should abstain or atleast use protection. But alarmists like this lady are not helping.

Pilot studies exist for a reason. Not all are destined to be published. She attended a conference, she claimed that the people who conducted pilot studies reported a high prevalence of HIV. This report may be true or false.

As a researcher, my job is to keep an open mind. Investigate, do a lit review, repeat the study. As for waiting for this report of this magnitude to be published before taking a decisive action, not in all cases

During the COVID-19 pandemic, noone waited for the reports to be published before taking decisive actions.

The lady may have spoken out of turn but I have learnt not to shun any report until it is further probed.

You will be amazed to know that there are published papers out there whose reports may seem very outlandish but they are in fact true.

One of them happens to be a paper that I recently sent to a high impact journal. The reviewer said that it was impossible for me to get such fantastic outcomes in my facility. I replied by inviting him over to see things for himself.

The same paper was accepted for publication this month. Go figure

I kove reading scientific journals on societal issues like this to stay ahead. Could there be a way you can share the link of your published work you mentioned ?

If I do, my privacy will be violated but will update this post by sharing some studies with 'fantastic' outcomes that are in fact true.

Found some examples

1. Worms used to treat illness
Doctors actually infected patients with live hookworms to treat severe allergies and gut problems. It sounds mad—letting worms live inside you on purpose—but it worked. And yes, it’s published science.

2. Faeces as medicine
There are real treatments where doctors take stool (yes, poo) from a healthy person and transplant it into someone else’s gut to cure infections. It’s called faecal transplant. Weird, but life-saving. Published in top journals.

3. Maggots used to clean wounds
Doctors use live maggots to clean infected wounds. The maggots eat only the dead tissue, helping wounds heal faster. Disgusting? Maybe. But it’s real and approved in modern medicine.

4.While smoking is harmful overall, studies have shown that people with ulcerative colitis who smoke often have milder symptoms than non-smokers. Even more shocking? Nicotine patches have been used in clinical trials to help manage flare-ups in non-smokers with this condition.

And lots more. Like I said earlier, I have learnt over time and decades of practice not to shun any report no matter how weird it sounds. That is a rookie mistake.

Personally, I enjoy researching novel ideas, otherwise I get bored easily. The more weird is sounds, the better.

If I was in infectious diseases, I would have enquired more to see if there was some truth to this report. I won't dismiss it completely just because some lady failed to choose her words carefully in her narrative report. Something clearly alarmed her and I would try my best to find out the details from my colleagues who attended the symposium.

There are numerous population-based studies to corroborate the above, likewise lots of systematic analysis and meta analysis studies

"The prevalence of HIV in Lagos State, Nigeria, is estimated to be around 1.4% among adults aged 15-64, according to Sage Journals. While this is slightly lower than the national average, Lagos is still a high-burden state," Data from the 2024 NDHS also corroborate the above. Science is evidence-based.

75% haba. There is no where in the world with this prevalence, not even East and Central Africa. Like I said science is evidence based not fabrication or hearsay.

With it's limitations, it's still the best available for planning and interventions.

She should provide empirical evidence that can be referenced

No be by word of mouth

Data from a research published in The Lancet shows Benue has the highest prevalence with (5.7%), Rivers (5.2%), Akwa Ibom (3.5%), Edo (3.4%), and Taraba (3.0%) and this is supported by data from different source.
Exactly. I wonder what data she is referring to. She just on ring light ,make video, open mouth and starts exaggerating and capping

Very annoying.

HIV cannot spike from 5% to 75%.
It means 3 out of every 4 people are positive which didn't happen even at the peak of the prevalence.
She should apologize for being dull.

I think it's even more than 75%, Nigeria has alot of people that are living with HIV more than South Africans, some are scared to take the test because of stigmatization or fear.

The rate at which Nigerians have sex without protection has skyrocket because most of them thinks HIV is just a farcade even among teens. it's so terrible.

Condom can tear during action.

The fluid can slip into the condom from the vjay during action

Some people wear the condom wrongly.

Don't allow ladies wear the condom on you as a man cos their nails can puncture it unknowingly.

After sex, some guys remove the condom carelessly and the fluid from the lady's vjay can still touch their P, and if the guy have any form of injury on the P shaft, it's otilor

Some guys use same hand they used to finger the lady to rub on their penis. Wash your hands with soap if you finger her shocked
Dem say make una abstain you still dy cap how to go about it without abstaining kos una too like fvck 😆

Fortunately she's right and most of you are just ignorant, the rate at which youths have sex without protection is on the risk, majority feel that sex with condoms isn't satisfying.

She recalled that the prevalence rate was around 5% in 2020, but it has now reportedly skyrocketed to over 75%. This suggests, she emphasized, that approximately one in every ten people may now be living with HIV. Statistics, she said, indicate that the highest rates are found in Lagos and Abuja.

if you're in a sexual relationship with someone, it doesn't matter if the person is your husband, it doesn't matter if the person is your wife. If your husband could have side chicks, if your wife could have side niggas, your girlfriend could have other boyfriends, your boyfriend could have other girlfriends — you know, I will just advise you to carry two legs and go to the nearest laboratory and test for HIV. It's better to know early, to know if you have it or not. And if you do not have it, be more careful because it is rampant and it's spreading rapidly. I am telling you that it is very bad.

Recounting more of what she learned, she said there had been about a 50% increase in HIV cases from the previous year.

In her closing remarks, she stressed: “Before entering any sexual relationship, please always go for an HIV test. Sometimes, protection may fail in preventing HIV transmission, so we need to be extremely careful.”
Ki la wa fe she bayi huh (Wetin man go con do Now) huh

People should also be wary of where they go for dental treatment. The tools must be properly disinfected before use.
Well said.

Although the survival time of HIV on dental instruments is relatively short, the risk of infection in dental healthcare settings should not be overlooked.
