Chief MKO Abiola left Nigeria unanounced on August 3rd, 1993. His team said that he had gone to seek international support.

I remember that period very well. The Federal Military Government ran an advert campaign on the NTA Network Service and the campaign was targetted at parents and guardians. They implied that Chief Abiola had fled abroad and that parents and guardians should not allow their children to suffer and die on the streets (protest) for someone that had fled abroad. They said that Chief Abiola and his family would not join the protesters on the streets.

Chief Abiola returned to Nigeria on September 23rd, 1993 and Channels TV and other media houses interviewed Senator Bola Tinubu after Chief Abiola's return.

What I discovered is that while the President was in yankee, the white people there kept giving him more opportunities, good professional advice to succeed as they saw that he was putting in the efforts, focus, committed, hardworking
