Loyalty Vs Incompetence; Competence Vs Disloyalty: Who Would You Fire? by Chilipepper(op): 11:24am On Jun 22, 2025
One employee is loyal but incompetent.
Another is competent but disloyal.

You can only fire one.

Re: Loyalty Vs Incompetence; Competence Vs Disloyalty: Who Would You Fire? by TemplarLandry: 11:36am On Jun 22, 2025
The former.
Only loyalty doesn't get the job done.
Re: Loyalty Vs Incompetence; Competence Vs Disloyalty: Who Would You Fire? by SINisSIN(m): 12:01pm On Jun 22, 2025
Loyal employee can be trained with the help of the Boss while disloyal employee is a threat to the company, such employee can sell out the Boss or even the company without any remorse.

I would fire disloyal person anytime anyday.

It takes competence to hire someone but it takes loyalty to remain on the job. A loyal employee will be competent with time, he or she will grow on the job.
Re: Loyalty Vs Incompetence; Competence Vs Disloyalty: Who Would You Fire? by mii4u(f): 1:24pm On Jun 22, 2025
Nothing beats loyalty. Incompetence can be taken care of by way of training.

Those guys saying they will fire a disloyal employee probably don't know or understand what they're saying, especially when it comes to being technical, there are jobs where getting the job done is extremely important. I am not a fan of disloyal employee but I will fire an incompetent employee and make sure I am at the front game of a disloyal employee making sure he's well checked as long as he can deliver on Job. Why do you think Top organizations hire programmers and won't ask for any evidence of their Degree certificate, The power of knowing how to solve a problem cannot be over-emphazied while other things are by the way. A single problem can a bring a multimillion dollar company down within a slit of seconds, So you think keeping a competent but disloyal employee is a price too high to pay? Think!!
Re: Loyalty Vs Incompetence; Competence Vs Disloyalty: Who Would You Fire? by GanagiBitrus:
Depends on the job...

If na highly technical/skilled job, Competence over Loyalty

But if na Politician or Civil Servant job etc, Loyalty over Competence.

You can always hire competence but you can’t hire integrity and loyalty
Re: Loyalty Vs Incompetence; Competence Vs Disloyalty: Who Would You Fire? by 1Alex: 6:54pm On Jun 23, 2025
I will make the competent one loyal by force, but I won't fire the loyal one.

Conscience won't let me fire, he is not incompetent by choice. There must be where he is useful, put him there.
Re: Loyalty Vs Incompetence; Competence Vs Disloyalty: Who Would You Fire? by shortgun(m): 6:54pm On Jun 23, 2025
I'll fire the incompetent one 100 times over.
What many term loyalty is is just the desire to dominate others

Disloyalty is the answer. Even if your work pace is low I will still prefer loyal servants.

Not been loyal is a great sin to God and man kind. It destroys life of those that not deserved in such ways.

Incompetence will lose you some money, but disloyal staff will sell the company.

Competent and disloyal person will use his competency to destroy u.
Competent person is smart and can sell ur company while u can teach an incompetent person

Loyalty first!
Reason is: loyalty is very rare and expensive.

I think loyalty is non negotiable. Competence is worthless without loyalty.

Loyalty isn't forced. It's like respect, you have to earn it. Using power or authority to force loyalty is like forcing a horse to drink, not happenin. Just fake stuff here and there leading to fake/forced loyalty. E no dey end well.

History has showed that those who tried to force loyalty only ended up...in the words of VDM, learned hard lessons!!!

Re: Loyalty Vs Incompetence; Competence Vs Disloyalty: Who Would You Fire? by Exousiang01(m): 6:59pm On Jun 23, 2025
Loyalty can never be overrated.
A disloyal staff will soon destroy you.
An incompetent staff I can train and coach.
You can't teach or coach something to be loyal

an incompetent employee remain incompetent, you simply lower your standards and learn to manage him. this mindset is one reason why the Nigerian economy is full of inefficient workers...we manage them and they destroy our businesses with their incompetence.

trust me you are better off with a competent employee and learning to manage his disloyalty!
Re: Loyalty Vs Incompetence; Competence Vs Disloyalty: Who Would You Fire? by Port8080: 7:00pm On Jun 23, 2025
I will first use the disloyal to train the incompetent then fire him afterwards.
Re: Loyalty Vs Incompetence; Competence Vs Disloyalty: Who Would You Fire? by njokuuche77(m): 7:01pm On Jun 23, 2025
You can teach skills, but you can’t teach loyalty.
In leadership, trust is non-negotiable.
The competent but disloyal staff will harm your business faster than any mistake the loyal one makes.
Re: Loyalty Vs Incompetence; Competence Vs Disloyalty: Who Would You Fire? by Btruth:
To be honest, I think I will chose loyalty. Disloyal people are deadly than a serpent 🐍. The incompetent you can always train.

Disloyalty cannot be undone

I will kick Disloyalty out one time!

Competence can be taught
Loyalty can’t
That’s why we have workers training and have continuous improvement courses

How many MBA programmes have you seen based on loyalty?

Competence is even more expensive. If you're a football enthusiast, who would you rather in your team.

A loyal Moses Simon or a stubborn/disloyal Vinicius Junior. Both are left wingers and in their prime age.
Re: Loyalty Vs Incompetence; Competence Vs Disloyalty: Who Would You Fire? by LCling: 7:05pm On Jun 23, 2025
Depends on the scale.and levels of operations and importance. If competent disloyal is the only engine... I won't risk it. Nobody is completely loyal it's just by %. So its better i put a loyalty bonus T&C and shares to competency than otherwise.. now nobody can work against himself. His success his billions.
Its business no emotion.

na until a disloyal employee sell ur company, u will not learn.
I'll rather be a teacher in my company and teach incompetent person and loose some money than become FBI agent and lose the company
