The President has signed a new amendment bill to the 2024 bill. He has fully decentralized power and removed the load totally from the federal to the states.
..This is the kind c of fundamental changes a former nadeco chieftain like Tinubu should have been making since....not playing tribal politics....next is state police?

He didn't do anything.
The power to control electricity already lies in the hands of the state. Electricity is in the exclusive legislative list.
All these is just a ruse.....
See how you dey confuse yourself, Electricity is in the exclusive list, and at the same time, the control is in the hand of the state grin grin. May God put sugar into your soul.. Bitterness no dey pay.
Re: Tinubu Signs Bill Granting States Full Control Over Electricity by bentenny(m): 2:37pm On Jun 28, 2025
So which electricity act or amendment did the former president Buhari sign into law in 2023?

Re: Tinubu Signs Bill Granting States Full Control Over Electricity by Love800(m): 2:39pm On Jun 28, 2025
They(federal) will only partner with the states and assist with grants and funds. But the states are in full power!

Don't you see America! All the states there are independent. They raise revenues and contribute what they can give to the federal and use the majority liquidity to maintain their respective states!
Elusive001:
Exactly!!!!!

I remember one saying that communities should foem groups to defend themselves.

So which responsibility will Tinubu's FG now take?

If this man enter for second term. I am very sure he will change the constitution of Nigeria and make it a decentralized state with higher responsibilities and powers relinquished to states.
The presidents after him will beore of ceremonial while the governors and LGA chairmen will be more responsible for their people.
He is taking it bit by bit now because of political reasons, when he wins he will do the do.

HE WILL GO DOWN AS THE BEST PRESIDENT NIGERIA EVER HAD.

Abandonment of responsibility. Nigeria's operating a quasi unitary government system where most of oil earnings go to the central government. What will the federal government be doing with its lion share of oil revenues aa it leaves states to use their paltry allocations to provide electricity infrastructures?
The sub nationals don't have any excuse for being poor and redundant.......develop your state an investments will thrive.....why would a gov be pointing to abija when he can't pay salaries of civil servants it employed itself without fg consent.....how can a gov of say Ogun state be pointing to abija if the people can't get cheap garri when the state has humongous potential for cassava production.
Re: Tinubu Signs Bill Granting States Full Control Over Electricity by bentenny(m): 2:44pm On Jun 28, 2025
What we should presently be anticipating from the president is the signing of the decentralization and autonomy of the policing system.

Full autonomy of the electoral system.

Resource control

Decentralization of ports!

Removal of the authority of the president to select and appoint the CJN.

Full autonomy of the LGA chairmen!

What I see is just a duplication!
This same electricity act has already been signed by the former president!

So the thing don pass am and he pushed it to the governors. Next one will be security. He will still push security to governors too.

So he actually never had any single solution for power all these while.

The same for fashola.

I remember them insulting GEJ and OBJ.

He was the first sun national head to introduce ipp when he broke Enron of America to provide electricity in early 2000 and it held a lot of promise but was killed by the vindictive short sighted obj at the time......Lagos would have long forgotten about power problems by now and other states would have followed.....this project failed due to lack of legislation and that's what he has just done.. you need to give him kudos...we are over 29 years late on this

Even the in the days of regional government, your region lagged behind.
That was why they planned the coup of JJan., 1966.
How did the region lag behind, when oil was discovered in Oloibiri in the old Eastern region. The main stay of the economy was coal at that time and it was on the Eastern region.

You think abdicating responsibility is the way to fix power?

Tinubu said if he cannot fix power in 4yrs, he should not be voted for
Interestingly, this act has already been signed by Buhari in 2023!
I still don't understand signing the same act in 2025!
Abi e wan claim Buhari glory?

When Tinubu was governor he tried to generate power in Lagos state. He brought in a company called ENRON and Obasanjo did everything to frustrate it.

No matter what you say a number of key strategic moves have been made under this government

The same Obasanjo went to a Paris court to testify about the Mambilla Plateau project. Now that court case is soon to be resolved and that project will start.

No one can accuse this government of not having a vision for power
I am not even a supporter of TInubu but the hatred is too much

He is in power for the next 2 years and must be supported whether you like it or not

The SW already has a plan for power . If you like do not hold your regional governors to account . Continue beefing

Good development, 0ne Good thing this wey I don't see this government do, there may be others o, I never see, it is now I can join people saying hold your governor, before there was not much to hold the governors for, but because of the transformative nature of electricity, it is very essential that governors take advantage of this very opportunity
Our Governors only have 4-8 years vision for their state, and in that period all they are after is the free allocation from Abuja.
Long-term investment is never in their minds.

Finally, for doing this, I will register to vote for Tinubu in the next election. He has done what I wanted all my life. I trust my State to disconnect us from the national grid since we already have a power plant that can run the state 247. Band A is almost 247 but I am hoping with States in charge, we will enjoy some form of subsidy for manufacturing.
Oga clam down you have always voted for Tinubu. We know this scope abeg. It is too stale.

Let me remind you of some other things that Tinubu has done.

1. Full financial autonomy for Local Governments thereby setting the LG free from the evil State governments.

2. Approval for State Police. When implementation is done, each State indegenes will protect their people from bandits and herdsmen.

3. Students Loans
First of all it is only student loans that he has done. The state police has not been approved. Also despite local government autonomy nothing has changed. The governors still control funds and control who sit in the local governments.

Tinubu should also sign Bill that grant full controlling of state resources. E.g is oil and gas. The same with Police and infrastructure.
We will get there,it's a gradual process.....it would have been better if you can keep advocating for development policies rather than keep hating tinubu......that's how to grow a nation.

SmartyPants:
That's not the right way to look at it. What this Act does is to create simultaneous power regimes: the existing National structure and a parrellel structure which allows any state to take itself off the grid. The FG is not taking its hands off power, it's simply allowing more hands come to the table.

This can open the door for private companies to take over in partnership with the States, and it will greatly benefit those that already have suitable resources for power generation.

The States don't have to spend a penny.
If Tinubu is sincere, let him remove electricity from the exclusive list. Also this is not the first time he has brought a bill giving states power over electricity generation. In 2024 the bill was signed and up till now states haven't done anything simply because electricity is still in the exclusive list.

Na dem dey benefit from the current centralised government the most...

Why would Tinubu do an independent power system knowing fully well that there was an existing law stopping him from providing power to his citizens then?
That's simply grandstanding!
Obasanjo didn't stop him!
The 1999 constitution then where electricity law was on the exclusive list stopped him!

If you don't know what happened it is better to be silent and then do some research

There was no law stopping him doing what he did so research

What you are doing here now is grandstanding

Who said anything about INDEPENDENT . You are one of those superficial people who think they are intellectual You are not
Enron actually did come in and was generating adding to the national grid. That Happened. No grandstanding

Was Tinubu president when the Aba power plant started
Had this new legislation been signed?

Here it's ban for anyone who criticises Tinubu's act of abandonment of responsibilities.
Tinubu promised that if he did not provide enough electricity before 2027, Nigerians should not vote for him in 2027. Now Tinubu is shying away from his promise through passing the buck to State governors.
This is exactly what should have been done since 1960.
