We have too much burden on FG. States! No more excuse o. First to market with quality service would have greater market share o. States can license individual companies. |

Resources control left now to make states super powerful, right now the states are at 80% powerful the remaining 20% is police and resources. LGs should no brainer continue to be under states (like in other Federations). |

DMerciful:centralisation of transmission is one big problem that has partly kept us in darkness, and it is due to keeping that in the hands of FG. As critical and tongue in cheek you want to put this victory, it should begin to translate big success in the next few years. Generation, distribution and transmission of power are the triad in power systems. |

DMerciful:Your question is disingenuous With this new development States can develop transmission ecosystems that are parallel to what is in existence or they can totally decouple from existing transmission systems It will not happen overnight but the option is there legally There are already tiny examples of decentralization scattered across the country e.g In the Niger Delta the Oil majors have generated their own Power. Dangote is generating his own power at his cement and other industries At power plants like Kainji and Egbin Within their campus they power their staff quarters and offices directly from power they generate before it goes to the grid and have extended same to host community Geometric in Aba distributes power off grid and On Grid Lagos State Metro rail will be powered by off grid electricity So there is already decentralization and this development affords states a CHOICE . They can decide to develop their electricity totally disconnected from the National grid That option is open to states and the private sector and we can expect to see that particularly with Solar generation which is progressively cheaper So on Decentralization The fundamental difference is Licensing States do not have to beg the FG to licence The FG cannot delay of hold things up. It is truly DECENTRALIZED You do not need to go to Abuja to start a plant in Aba. The governor can sign It is a big deal You will start to see real competition and we will see those governors that are failing Lagos will Do well and if the SS know what they are doing I expect economic explosion I also expect Abia to be fine |

This is just pretense at solving a problem. State government do not have the resources or capacity to run a parallel transmission line. The current transmission lines should be privatized as was done for generation and distribution. Government should only regulate! What the federal government needs to do is to get serious investors to invest in the power sector aribisala0: |

DMerciful:The capacity of the current Transmission lines is less than current generation capacity of about 6000MW or less For a country like Nigeria we need a lot,lot more than 100000MW Even Lagos State alone would easily absorb that So it is clear there is a need for exponential rise in capacity in transmission lines. Also a need to look at modern option like UNDERGROUND TRANSMISSION You say current transmission lines should be privatized as if they are in good condition and an attractive investment. There is still need for transmission capacity dozens of times what is on ground. Who is going to pay for it? The idea that that should be centralized is unintelligent and unrealistic No investor will sign up to that. Rather as an investor I would prefer the country broken up and I pick juicy states like Lagos, Rivers , Kano , Abuja. A centralized system would be a backdoor subsidy system. Some states can afford to pay more than others. It is not compulsory to have electricity if you cannot pay for it. And if it is to be subsidized for some states let us be explicit and intentional about it Technically I doubt that a centralized transmission system would work if we were to rise to a capacity of 50000MW or more which should be our ambition. In these days of cyber warfare and such like such centralization would be suicidal Let everybody answer him papa name We must come to the realization that all states are not equal. Why must we be yoked together I thought Igbos always argued Nigeria was holding back the manifestation of the Igbo genius So let the states compete in attracting investment into their own grids . I trust the Igbos within 2 years they will transform Aba to a place Dubai will be envious of. Investors will go where they will make money and not put their money in a quota system grid Lagos will attract investment, Abia will ,Kano will Ekiti and Ebonyi might struggle Then we shall see those states that need subsidy and those that don't In all honesty your sweeping declaration that transmission lines should be privatized is not a solution to anything, a mere brain wave or flight of fancy not based on anything logical Finally maybe you should check where Peter Obi stands on this so that you don't have to do a humiliating about turn if he supports it. The internet does not forget I always believed you supported true federalism is this not hypocrisy. By the way this is what the 1959 Independence constitution provided for Electricity distribution was NOT on the exclusive list until the Igbo coup of January 1966 changed our story for ever |
