Abeg abeg, we don't need that kind of prayer now.

There are over 40 Checkpoints from Ijebuode to Benin, yet almost every week, kidnappings and robberies happen back to back.

The only problem with crimes in Nigeria is that they cannot be solved. That's my issue with our Police.

Nobody should mount any checkpoint along Gbagada abeg. We like am like that
I'm not saying road blocks should be mounted on Gbagada road or any other road o, I am only pointing it out that at times that road block we destest could've made the difference(if it is used well by the security agencies).

I am one person who normally detest police stop and search on normal state roads and trunk C roads. One day I was complaining and a friend of mine said the police actually make arrests via thos roadblocks which are grossly under reported. He said he has been at a police station when they brought in suspected robbers who were arrested inside Keke Napep with Locally made pistol found in their possession after random stop and search. One of the police officers now said that is actually not the first, second or third arrest of that manner they are making since the year started.

I know Naija police dey hustle for themselves with that their road blocks o, but dem dey also take criminals out of circulation too.

I guess most people are angry with the current state of things , but they are failing to see how it could've been worse.

I watched a video recently on Youtube in which one lady was interviewed by Lucky Udu to share her "one chance" experience. The Lady narrated how she boarded a vehicle on a Monday morning to work on the Island ; unfortunately for her the vehicle turned out to be "one chance". She was driven all over Gbagada, Anthony, Ikeja etc in the early hours of the morning while the criminals were hitting her legs with hammer to force her give her banking app password and ATM pins at gun point.

At the end of the day, the lady was badly injured and lost her savings to the criminals. One thing she said that caught my attention was that she was pissed there was no police checkpoint on the roads while she was being driven around Lagos and being attacked by the criminals. She felt if there had been checkpoints mounted maybe around Gbagada or Ikeja axis, they would've busted the criminals who held her in their car against her will.

Now, I have been frequenting that route for a while now and I remember like 2 to 3 years ago there used to be some special police tactical unit that do mount roadblock around Charley Boy bus stop on that Gbagada axis. Most times people cuss them for causing unnecessary slow-moving traffic due to their "stop and Search". It was ironic hearing the lady wish those same policemen we used to cuss mounted the road blocks we love to hate.
Any traffic jam in lagos is an opportunity for any riff raff to start knocking on windows. So whenever I am in a go slow I am always looking to see if there is a policeman. I usually even drop something for them.

I’ve got a friend who runs a spa. Her price list ranges from 10k to 60k — decent, right? But the lifestyle she’s living? Bro, even if 100 clients paid for the most expensive package every single month, the math still won’t math.
I genuinely hate jumping to the "she must be selling something else" conclusion — but at some point, you just can’t ignore the obvious.

During that same EndSARS movement, all the ones attached to politicians in the area I live in dissappeared, and it didn't take long before evil reared its ugly head. First of all the animals who 'hijacked' the protests started looting homes, they started from the politicians before coming for each of us wey just dey manage life for there, in as much as we cuss the hell out of those special roadblock officers, we wished they were there to help us at least. What saved us was one retired Navy Commodore with PTSD, walahi the man let off shots like say we dey Maiduguri and that's what scared off the hoodlums.

I get your point and even Raumdeuters point as well.

My point is not exactly in support of tax evasion, just criticizing the way it is being managed...and looted by the cr1m1nals parading as leaders. For the record, I pay my taxes and heavily too. But is these taxes used judiciously?

Most people here understands this but they will evade it...cos they support the cr1m1nals I'm talking about.
I also pay my taxes too and that's why I don't take serious ediiiots who try to gaslight me for criticizing government officials for mismanaging public funds.

I will criticize government for wasting money on white elephant projects, I will criticize government for spending billions on renovating their luxurious government houses. That was why I criticized Sanwoolu when the news broke out that Lagos State government under his watch budgeted over 3 billion naira for perfume and air diffusers about 2 years ago.

Anybody who lives and pay his taxes where such anomalies happen has a right to voice out his displeasure. I don't pay attention to political lackeys and slaves online who thinks the politicians should be worshipped for misappropriating public funds.

This is balderdash. You are the one that needs to remove the spirit of tribalism and prejudice that has eaten deep into the very fabric of your soul like a cankerworm. It is like there is a little but powerful voice of prejudice whispering in your head like Gollum that makes you believe my answer would be different if the name was not Obi but Bayo or Tanko.

Not every criticism is based on bias or prejudice. I know you find that hard to believe based on your various utterances on anything political on this thread.

Even while supporting his right to complain and seek redress, i criticized his manner of doing it. He is a political leader and has the ability to inspire tens of thousands to rise up in his defense. He has to be tactful in how he responds to situations, and as a leader keep his emotions in check. He should not respond the way you or i would respond.

Land grabbing happens everywhere in Nigeria not only Lagos and has been happening for decades. It is an abhorrent practice but not indicative of any failing unique to the present government. The issue needs to be investigated, and redress should be sought in court and those responsible, if found guilty, need to be punished accordingly.
Bla bla bla

Had you spoken like this before I wouldn't have bothered. But probably you left your senses inside your pocket when you were spewing irrational criticisms.

One of the greatest accelerants of total societal collapse is the inability of a government to collect tax and the consequent breakdown of public services.

If everybody should follow the principles of these our wise tax evaders here, what is happening right now in the country will seem like child's play.

As bad as the country is, and as bad as our leaders are, if you decide not to pay tax then you are contributing your own small quota to the destruction of the country.
It’s our tax funds that Wike used to help Tinubu become president to come and deal with us.

So, for me, what will deter people to stop crime is if they know they will be caught; and that is Nigeria's problem.

I watch a lot of videos abroad. Crimes are bound to happen. From robberies, to shootings, it happens even daily there. But there's an effective system that ensures whoever is caught

Over here, checkpoints are now avenues to cause more problems than good. You can spend as much as 10 minutes on our expressways at checkpoints, because Police is trying to collect 500 naira, and the driver has 200.

The case of rampant one chance vehicles is not the absence of checkpoints. It's the absence of an effective, controlled system for registering and coordinating road transport systems and means. Anybody can just carry a vehicle and start carrying passengers.

I hope her checkpoint prayer is not answered sha. As that road dey free, I like am like that.

If the majority of the people stop paying taxes the country will collapse. People always think they are suffering until the next level suffering comes.

2 years ago when people even on this thread were clamouring for quick removal of fuel subsidy, I warned that if it was done the suffering of that time would look like child’s play compared to what would come after. People did not understand then.

You can’t say because Wike used funds to help Tinubu you don’t want to pay taxes. That would be cutting off your nose to spite your face and the country will turn to Haiti in front of your eyes.

Yes, he funded the operation. Paying a couple of hundred thousand naira to recover a car worth millions is not a wrong move if u ask me.

I'm not saying it is right for the police to be charging citizens to do their jobs, but we will be lying to ourselves we don't agree the security agencies are underfunded.

I don’t want to think a couple of hundreds mean 200k because there’s no way the Nigerian police I know will charge so little.

The last time I arrested a credit defaulter, I bought fuel for vehicle and food for the policemen that followed me. That’s after other extortions. So as a tax payer, I have resolved to using my fist to tackle such cases in the future.

So ask your friend again, I am sure he paid nothing short of 500k after the whole operation.
