Meet Jean-Pierre Adams, the footballer who slept for 39 years and d.ied at 73

In 1982, promising footballer Jean-Pierre Adams was sidelined by a knee injury during a match. What was expected to be a routine surgery to repair the damage turned into a decades-long tragedy that shook the sporting world.

The operation, meant to fix his knee, went horribly wrong when a critical error was made.

The anaesthetic team administered the wrong dosage of anaesthesia, and instead of waking up after surgery, Adams never regained consciousness. He slipped into a coma—a state of unending sleep from which he would never return.

Adams, only 34 years old at the time, remained in that coma for 39 years.

His wife, Bernadette Adams, stood by him through it all.

She refused to give up hope or allow life support to be removed, saying she believed her husband would one day wake up.

Throughout the decades, Bernadette cared for him at home in France, maintaining his dignity and holding onto love in the face of a silent existence. Despite her efforts and the family's hope, Jean-Pierre Adams passed away in 2021 at the age of 73.

His story is remembered as one of hear,tbreaking loyalty, a medical error that changed a life forever, and the enduring strength of a wife who never stopped believing.

Which kind of life is this ? In coma for 39 solid years no be beans..well his wife tried ,I knew she most be a white woman because only this people sabi stay loyal in love especially if the spouse is incapacitated...God rest his soul and bless his wonderful wife and children

Not exactly...and the anesthetist was punished and struck off eventually.
Also, it happens. A lot of people in france have died over the years from anesthetic mortality....and most of them were white.

Also, France does not like losing its decent footballers...even if they are black.

That’s just sad they should have pulled the plug once they found out he was brain dead. His chances of ever regaining consciousness were always next to none. It’s just unending suffering for the family.

He died at the age of 34years (73 minus 39 years)

They should have administered mercy killing on him and saved him and family all the stress.

To be in coma is different from sleeping. It is a state of thin line between life and death.

How many ladies or women would stand by in such a situation?

He lived the rest of his life in the dream world.. So he literally died age 37 cos he will never age in his tranced dreams... He will have unbelievable dreams too.. Some scary and some beautiful.. Those dreams will only occur within the limits of what he experienced so far while awake... He kinda enjoyed though.. But misery to the observer.
