I visited the Nigeria-Niger border alongside officials from the Nigeria Immigration Service and COP Security Services International, and what I witnessed was deeply troubling. The state of the border is not only pathetic, but it also leaves the country highly vulnerable to terrorist infiltration. Shockingly, in some areas, a mere rope is all that separates Nigeria from Niger. There's nothing like borders. We are all one, na colonial Europe separate all of us. We were one from the begining of things |

Rexymania:That's why you shouldn't be seen complaining about the insecurity ravaging your region! Very soon, All Northern border states will become an "All-comer sanctuary for Terrorists and Bandits in the sahel!" You keep blaming the FG government for not doing enough yet you're the ones sabotaging the Government's efforts. I don't know why someone still have to be explaining to you guys in 21century that Border and demarcation is made for proper accountability and Management not a perceive attempt at separating neighbors. If Sokoto and Kano states with same Culture, Language and Tribe can have and respect boundaries, what's the excuse for Niger and Nigeria two countries with different Currency, Language and System of Governance to still be borderless?! |

SporaD8:Terrorist are everywhere. They are also in the south. Did you think those guys killing people in Benue state are herdsmen? They are terrorists... disguised or portrayed as herdsmen |

okrote4real:In reality, contrary to the beliefs of a lot of people who have never been to the actual international border areas, physical borders or fences acting as demarcations have NEVER existed even right from the British Colonial years between Nigeria and her 4 neighbors. The Colonialists divided Africa up in Berlin in 1885, yet, they NEVER bothered to create fences for demarcations. They were ONLY interested in carting away cheap commodities from Africa to Europe for processing hence making huge profits. It's ONLY pillars or beacons and sometimes barrel of drums that separate Nigerian from those countries. I once saw a video years back showing just 2 drums with a stick on top of both (acting as a path for cars to drive right through) separating an indigenous Yoruba-speaking community in Nigeria from the indigenous Yoruba-speaking community in Benin Republic. Some Yoruba communities along the borders are actually one single Yoruba town split into two by the British and French Colonialists with the Oba's palace either located in the Benin Republic section or the Nigerian section. The Yorubas of Benin and Nigeria just simply walked right into one another's communities on foot! I nearly fell off my chair when I realized that physical fences or walls didn't exist along the entire stretch of the Nigerian land borders except at official entry point in Seme and a few others. I've always advocated that since laterite is located all around Nigeria, interlocking stabilized laterite bricks technology can be used to build these walls which are solid bullet-proof and earthquake resistant. This interlocking stabilized bricks or adobe bricks will be cheaper for Nigeria to URGENTLY demarcate the entire border areas (especially in the North of Nigeria due to the foreign Fulani herders and bandits killings) by using the labour of prisoners located in correctional facilities near the borders. South Africa, India, and many Latin American countries use stabilized adobe bricks made from for construction purposes. There's an existing Federal government-established building agency that has machines for making the stabilized bricks already for years now and houses have been built with it in the North and in Abeokuta in Ogun State. |
