The member representing Mikang Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Nanloong Daniel (APC) has emerged as the new Speaker of the House.

The development followed the resignation of Gabriel Dewan (YPP), the erstwhile Speaker.

DAILY POST reports that the election took place during an emergency sitting held at the temporary Assembly Complex located at the Old Government House, Jos.

Nanloong Daniel, a former Majority Leader in the 9th Assembly, was unanimously chosen by his colleagues to lead the Assembly.

DAILY POST gathered that the change in leadership came on the heels of a closed-door meeting involving Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the former Speaker Gabriel Dewan and other lawmakers.

It was also gathered that the meeting was convened as part of efforts to address ongoing political tensions within the state.

The emergency session was presided over by Deputy Speaker Gwotta Ajang, who facilitated the transition process.

Dewan, a member of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), is the only legislator from his party in the Assembly.

Sources say the resignation of Dewan is part of a broader effort to stabilise the political climate in the state.

DAILYPOST recalls that 16 PDP lawmakers elected into the Assembly were removed by a judgement of an Abuja Appeal Court, which declared that their party had no structure going into the 2023 general elections.

Personally I'm saddened by the news because it makes it clear that the Governor would decamp to the APC, reason being that all members of the Assembly and every other elective position in the state is currently held by the APC, while the Governor is the only person holding an elective position from the PDP. If the Governor refuses to decamp to APC then he'll end up being impeached.

Gov Muftwang might have problems during reelection as APC is quite hated by majority of the state. His body language is showing decamping since January but he's having pending issues with Jang structure that brought him to power 🤷🏿
