N50,000 In 2008 Is Worth This In 2025 by Charley2020(op): 6:44am On Jul 02, 2025
So after seeing so many wrong responses in that thread, I decided to create mine to answer the question correctly.

In January 2008, a dollar was equivalent to 123 Naira.

50000 / 123 = $407

If 50000 = $407
x = $1536

50000 × 1536 / 407 = 189000 approximately

So, 50,000 Naira in 2008 is equal to 189,000 Naira today.

And no need to talk about inflation because we calculated it using today's dollar value which already accounts for inflation.

This doesn’t account for inflation. As at 2008 $407 is not the same in 2025.
There’s an average inflation of 2.5%

So 407 is approximately 580.

This is based on dollar inflation. Now calculate that in naira

50,000 naira in 2008 is 890,300 naira. Almost a million naira.

PS: Your initial calculation was wrong btw.

You are like one of my guys in sec school that understand normal BODMAS but do not know how figures play out. Then he would do small class work and come to my class to challenge me and I would just keep mute. It was during exams, I would get 97 or 100% while he would struggle with 50+ cos he didn't understand how figures played out.

Back to you, you wrote 50,000 to equate $407 and from no where you are bringing x =$1536, what's the correlation? Guy go and sit down. You only know BODMAS not how these figures interact.

So you know mathematics but you don't know simple cross multiplication?

1536 is the current value of Dollar to Naira. You can't calculate the equivalent of 50,000 Naira in 2025 without including the value of a stable currency like the U.S Dollar in your calculation.

So, you should sit down and learn.

You do not know maths, seriously. Like I said before, I will school you in mathematics; I'm not tryna brag.

What you did was to still use 123 equals 1$ in this 2025. You are indirectly saying if I have 1536 $ in 2025, I should multiply it by what 1 dollar was in 2010. It is wrong naa. Do the math. You know BODMAS but figures do not interact with you. 1536 × 123 gives what?
