Bayo Onanuga Slams Buhari’s Appointees For Joining Opposition Coalition by Racoon(op): 2:03pm On Jul 03, 2025
The attack on Mr Buhari's appointees highlights the deepening divisions within the APC and the growing opposition coalition's efforts to challenge the Tinubu administration.

The Presidency has launched a scathing attack on former President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointees who have joined the opposition coalition plotting to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser to President Tinubu on media and strategy, criticized the individuals for their alleged personal ambitions and lack of ideology.

Some of those mentioned by Mr Onanuga include:
– Rotimi Amaechi
: a former transportation minister and APC stalwart, who Mr Onanuga claimed “lost interest” in the party after losing the presidential primary to Mr Tinubu in 2022.

Abubakar Malami: a former attorney-general, who Mr Onanuga said had been estranged from the APC since Mr Tinubu assumed leadership and since he (Malami) lost the governorship bid in Kebbi.

Hadi Sirika: a former aviation minister facing trial for contract splitting and other allegations, which Mr Onanuga claimed compromised his integrity.

Rauf Aregbesola: a former governor and internal affairs minister under Mr Buhari, who Mr Onanuga said was expelled from the APC for anti-party conduct during the last Osun election.

In his late Wednesday post on Facebook, [b]Mr Onanuga told Nigerians to be cautious of the opposition coalition, describing it as a group of “desperados” united only by their hatred for Mr Tinubu. He predicted that the coalition would soon unravel due to the individuals’ irreconcilable personal and political ambitions.

The presidency’s attack on Mr Buhari’s appointees highlights the deepening divisions within the APC and the growing opposition coalition’s efforts to challenge Mr Tinubu’s administration. The criticism also underscores the intense political rivalry and jockeying ahead of the 2027 general elections.

PREMIUM TIMES reported that after months of meetings, a coalition of opposition politicians and some aggrieved members of the ruling APC adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a new platform to challenge Mr Tinubu in the 2027 election.

On Wednesday, the coalition appointed experienced politicians as interim leaders. These include former Senate President David Mark as National Chairperson, ex-Osun State Governor and former Tinubu ally Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, and former Minister of Youth and Sports Bolaji Abdullahi as spokesperson.

Keyamo Mocks Coalition
Like Mr Onanuga, APC leader and Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, said the transition of the coalition into the ADC has only strengthened the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

“By law, you cannot operate from, or belong to, two or multiple political parties, so it is safe to say that their open declaration for ADC today is a clear abandonment of their previous parties,” Mr Keyamo wrote on X. “In fact, belonging to two political parties is a ground for disqualification in an election. Therefore, the emergence of ADC as presently constituted marks the formal dismemberment of the PDP, hitherto Nigeria’s strongest opposition Party.”

The coalition is mostly composed of members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, and some APC members.

The opposition coalition includes prominent politicians such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, Bukola Saraki, Rotimi Amaechi, Abubakar Malami, and others — a diverse lineup drawn from various political backgrounds and regions.

“No matter how you look at it, this is just Atiku’s faction of PDP in desperate search for the 2027 Presidential ticket – nothing more, nothing less,” Mr Keyamo said, adding that their movement takes nothing away from the APC. “It is better for the APC because it is just a case of totally extracting the germ that was eating the cola nut from within.”

Coalition politics is not new to Nigeria. The APC itself was born from a merger of opposition parties in 2013, culminating in its historic victory over the then-ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015. Observers said the current realignment could mark another turning point.

As the 2027 elections approach, the opposition’s adoption of the ADC — and the high-level appointments that come with it — could reshape the country’s political dynamics and intensify the contest for power.

However, Mr Keyamo believes that the coalition is just another dust waiting to settle. “The person whom the old, cunning guards want to take for a ride in all of this is Peter Obi. They want his votes, but don’t want to give him their Presidential ticket, because this is Atiku’s show simpliciter. That is why David Mark is the interim Chairman.

Those who know politics know what I am saying. But if you do not give Peter Obi the Presidential ticket, you lose his supporters. It is as simple as that. And how can you make someone who won two regions in the last election (South-East and South-South) a running mate to the person who won only one region (North-East)?”

“Therefore, when the dust settles, you will discover that PDP and the Labour Party have lost something, the ADC have only gained something like a caricature, but the APC has lost ABSOLUTELY nothing.”

Desperate whining, neighing, bleating, and mooing everywhere from every angle in a panicky government. ACN-APC crying out on CPC-APC?

Reality is downing on them already, while their 2013 marriage of convenience has long come to an end since Buhari left the scene. Sunday Dare, Reno Omokri, Daniel Bwala, Bayo Onanuga, Festus Keyemo, Femi Fani-Kayode and all the hoardes of deadbeat mummified you go explain tire

This is the grandiosity with politicians. They are always defiant until they are consumed in their arrogance and pride.

So it is the arrogant Bayo Onanuga that will tell Nigerians Tinubu's enemies when the same Tinubu and the APC he formed have been the number-1 enemy of the Nigerian nation? Perhaps Bayo thinks he is addressing the zombies in the doomed government.

The Obi Atiku alignment is the shocker! Coupled with the political party confusion they thought the coalition was deeply embroiled in.

They are just finding out that the ADA was a decoy!

They are now finding out that Obi refusing to talk about strategy in his interviews particularly the most recent with Rufai of arisetv was strategic!

They are beginning to see the moves one would previously ascribe to the POLITICAL dexterity of a person like Tinubu in certain actions taken by the coalition.

That's why they are rattled. 😂
Re: Bayo Onanuga Slams Buhari’s Appointees For Joining Opposition Coalition by emkz:
What exactly was Bayo Onanuga expecting?

These people felt sidelined.

1. The aviation minister under Buhari started the ill-fated Nigerian air that only took off on roadshows. EFCC is on him.

2. The former AGF was invited by EFCC in 2023. He is in the coalition.

3. A former senior airforce under Buhari personnel lost elections in Bauchi; he is in the coalition.

4. One woman was appointed into NDDC and also as a commissioner in INEC by Buhari. She was rejected by the people. She is with the coalition.

5. One sports minister under Buhari was so irresponsible that Buhari never brought him back. He became a critic of Buhari and is speaking for the coalition.

6. One former governor referred to as "the butcher" and Buhari himself called him "bulldozer" for bulldozing the buildings of political opponents. He was begged to stay behind and work for Tinubu. He was screened as minister and was dropped. Today, he said he wants to remove the "evil" he helped bring. Please, why did he want to serve under evil? Why should he be trusted that he won't bring another evil since masterminding evil is his forte?

7. There was a transport minister under Buhari who undermined his southsouth zone by refusing to build a university (Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko) in the zone, but built a university of transportation in Daura in a disturbing display of sycophancy to ingratiate himself to Buhari and the northern oligarchy. It was Ibe Kachikwu who said every project that concerned the southsouth zone must be prioritized. Ibe Kachikwu publicly said if the ministry of transportation could not take the university project to benefit the southsouth people, the ministry of petroleum would take it. Udoma Udo Udoma who was minister of Niger Delta Affairs was smiling as Kachikwu spoke.

Many of those going to the coalition from Buhari's camp actively undermined Buhari. Recall that Buhari had expressed pain that some of his achievements were not reported by those he appointed and he didn't know why. Recall also that Garba Shehu was reported to have shut down the WhatsApp group of Buhari's communications alumni when some of Buhari's appointees were promoting materials to undermine Tinubu.

All those from Buhari's camp going to coalition lost out in the political game of 2023. They need visibility and relevance. They do not mean well for the country. They had their chances. The results are there to see.

All this coalition can not work against Tinubu, they are just wasting their time, the best candidate against Tinubu is Jonathan Goodluck, if he accepts to re-run under PDP, he alone can give Tinubu a tough election.

That'd why I said ADC is just APC and PDP lite. Nothing has changed.

Just some old cargo that are not happy they are not the ones currently stealing in government.

As for Obi, he is not even smart enough to figure out that Atiku is financing the coalition, and Atiku would be its presidential flag bearer.

Its not surprising that no pdp and even LP only governor have joined the coalition. Instead politicians, currently in power, are still decamping to APC.

I didn't even bother reading what he said, but I'm 100% sure it's fear. Tinubu's final hope is INEC chairman, Wike and his gang of judges.

I'm not supporting any group because they're all the same.

E don pain Bayo Onanuga. If e pain spokesman, that means e dey pain Oga. Seeing their people in the opposition no be joke.

The pain no be here. They must remember how in 2014, high ranking members of PDP became nPDP and teamed up with them to form their party and destroy PDP.

Now same method that they used is applied against them and they are lamenting. They ruined PDP thinking that it was the end of opposition. Now a major opposition faces them.

Chai. E too pain them o.
