A New Dawn for Anioma: A Collective Quest for Statehood At The Historic Public Hearing

In a resounding affirmation of their collective resolve, the people of Delta North Senatorial District came together to demand the creation of Anioma as the 37th state under the Nigerian federation. This historic public hearing, hosted by the 10th Senate of the National Assembly at Ikot-Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, marked a pivotal moment in the journey towards statehood.

This is a bill born of necessity. The bill for the creation of Anioma State, sponsored by Senator Ned Nwoko, has ignited a fervent passion for statehood among the people. As the quest for Anioma topped deliberations at the public hearing, it was clear that the time for mere agitation had passed, and the hour for decisive action had arrived.

In a unified voice, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, aptly described the public hearing as an opportunity for the voices of the people to be heard. And heard they were, as an avalanche of memoranda, all supporting the creation of Anioma State, were submitted by various personalities and socio-cultural groups.

Getting royal endorsement, the Obi of Ubulu-Uno, HRM Obi Afamefuna Henry Kikachukwu, speaking on behalf of Anioma traditional rulers, declared that all the royal fathers support the creation of Anioma State. "Anioma is overdue as the oldest state agitation in Nigeria's history, lingering for 71 years, since the colonial times," he emphasized.

Indeed this is a call for equity and healing.
A coalition of over 100 civil society and cultural groups, represented by Dr. Omenazu Jackson, underscored the importance of creating Anioma State to promote equity and heal the wounds of the Nigerian civil war. This sentiment was echoed by legal practitioner Barrister Tony Ogana, who presented a memorandum validating the renewed quest for Anioma.

As a shared heritage, Pastor Nwachukwu Ugbekile James of Akikuwa Cultural Initiative, speaking on behalf of the Igbanke community in Edo State, highlighted the shared genealogical affinity between the people of Igbanke and indigenous Anioma. He called for the inclusion of Igbanke in the proposed state, further underscoring the cultural and historical imperative of Anioma State.

This is a full testament to Senator Nwoko's Leadership.
The public hearing was attended by key figures, including the Senate Committee Chairman on Constitutional Review, Senator Seriake Dickson; Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, represented by the Deputy Governor; Senator (Dr.) Akon Eyakenyi; Senator Adams Oshiomhole; and Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, Senator Ede Dafinone from Delta Central, Senator Ben Adagaga and Senator Ekpoum Samson. among others. Their presence lent credence to the significance of the event and the growing momentum behind the Anioma State movement.

As the Nigerian polity continues to grapple with the complexities of state creation, the demand for Anioma State has emerged as a central issue under the current administration of President Bola Tinubu. With the collective resolve of the people and the leadership of Senator Ned Nwoko, the prospects for Anioma State look brighter than ever.

Something tells me a governor will be elected for Anioma State in 2027.

Possibly Tinubu might also assent to one two more states just for balance.

But only Anioma is the legitimate demand.

Anioma is something Tinubu will use to win vote from South East, Tinubu government favoured SE more than any region base on business. Business people were cashing out during the inflation base on subsidy removal because prices of goods was just not stable and unpredictable. As a worker I suffered and still feeling the impact.

Secondly, Tinubu want to unify South. If he loses the 2027 election Nigeria is gone into Federal Republica of Northern Nigeria and Republic of South Nigeria.

Watch out
