[/b]Troops intercept, recover 56 IEDs planted by ISWAP on Marte–Dikwa bridge in Borno[b] Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have intercepted and recovered 56 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by suspected ISWAP terrorists on the strategic Marte–Dikwa bridge in Borno State, averting what could have been a major attack. Sources told Zagazola Makama , on Friday that the explosives were discovered during a clearance operation by troops of 24 Brigade, Dikwa, Borno state. According to the source, the IEDs were strategically placed on the bridge by terrorists with the intention of causing mass casualties and disrupting military and civilian movement along the route. “The troops, acting on credible intelligence, uncovered the devices before detonation. A total of 56 prepared IEDs were recovered at the scene,” the source said. He added that an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were immediately deployed to the location to assist in rendering the devices safe. Images from the operation show several recovered explosive devices laid across key sections of the bridge, which links two major towns in northern Borno. The sources said the quick intervention by the troops forestalled what could have been a catastrophic terrorist attack, likely targeting both security forces and humanitarian operations in the region. [/b]GRAND FINALE OF NADCEL 2025 HOLDS IN KADUNA[b] The Nigerian Army rounded off a week-long series of activities marking its 162nd Anniversary with a colourful Grand Finale of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2025, held at Murtala Mohammed Square, Kaduna State, on Sunday, 6 July 2025. The event featured a military parade, file past, and combat demonstration, as well as a tour of Research and Development static equipment display stands. It also included the presentation of the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Awards to deserving personnel and Toyata Hilux Vehicles to Army Warrant Officers. The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, was the Special Guest of Honour and was ably represented by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima GCON. [/b]TROOPS OF OPERATION HADIN KAI NEUTRALIZE 24 BOKO HARAM INSURGENTS AND RECOVER WEAPONS IN OFFENSIVE OPERATIONS BETWEEN 4 - 9 JULY 2025[b] In continuation of the series of coordinated offensive operations across the North East Theatre of operations, troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), bolstered by close air support from the Air Component and collaboration with Civilian Joint Task Force and hunters, have carried out successful kinetic operations against Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in theatre between 4 - 9 July 2025, eliminating several terrorists. In one of the ambushes conducted at Platari on 4 July 2025, the gallant troops, while lying in wait, made contact with JAS/ISWAP terrorists mounted on bicycles moving from the Sambisa Forest axis to the Timbuktu Triangle. The terrorists were immediately subdued with heavy fire, leading to the neutralization of 3 terrorists. Similarly, following intelligence on movements of the insurgents around Komala general area, troops sprang another ambush on the terrorists, neutralizing another fighter. On exploitation of the general area, troops recovered motorcycles and spare parts, knapsack sprayers, pesticides, and terrorists' food items. Relatedly, troops conducted a night ambush on the same day at terrorists' hideouts around the Kawuri general area in Konduga Local Government. During the deliberate operations, the resilient troops came into contact with the insurgents. Consequently, 2 terrorists conveying logistics were immediately eliminated, while others fled with gunshot wounds. Troops also recovered packets of salt, food seasoning, detergents, and other sundry items. In the same vein, troops on 5 July 2025, intercepted terrorists attempting to access the Madarari Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Konduga Local Government Area. The troops swiftly engaged the insurgents, killing one terrorists, while others escaped with traces of gunshot wounds. Troops subsequently recovered several rounds of ammunition during the exploitation of the area. In another development, troops conducted a fighting patrol to terrorists' enclaves at Leno Kura. Resultantly, the troops came into contact with the insurgents and engaged them with simultaneous gunfire from different directions. Accordingly, 3 terrorists met their Waterloo, while troops continued exploitation of the area. Furthermore, on 6 July 2025, troops carried out a night ambush at a suspected terrorists' crossing point along the roads Ngoshe - Gava, Ngoshe - Ashigashiya, as well as Amuda - Gava areas.Troops made contact, and an insurgent was neutralized while others fled. On 7 July 2025 also, troops sprang another ambush following an intelligence report close to Sabsawa village. During the operation, troops made contact with terrorists' logistics suppliers and successfully neutralized 2 insurgents. On exploitation of the area, the gallant troops recovered bicycles, sacks of slippers, several torchlights, batteries, detergents, salt, and rubber shoes, amongst other sundry items. On 8 July 2025, troops in conjunction with the Civilian Joint Task Force, under close air support provided by the Air Component of OPHK, conducted clearance operations at Bula Marwa, a known ISWAP/JAS enclave. In the course of the operation, the troops eliminated an insurgent and recovered a gun, terrorists' uniforms, while their life-supporting structures were totally destroyed. Additionally, troops in a joint operation with hunters and the Civilian Joint Task Force, conducted fighting patrol at terrorists' hideouts at Pambula village in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State. During the patrol, contact was made with JAS/ISWAP terrorists, who were immediately engaged with a high volume of fire, forcing the terrorists to disperse in disarray. Consequent upon the firefight, the troops neutralized a terrorist, recovering four motorcycles and his weapon. The determined troops continued exploiting the general area to rid it of any terrorists activities. In another coordinated clearance operations conducted on 8 July 2025 at Bula Marwa, troops neutralized a terrorist fighter, while others fled. Items recovered included a gun and terrorists' uniforms. Troops also destroyed the insurgents' camp. On 9 July 2025, troops in joint operations with Civilian Joint Task Force, also conducted a clearance operation in JAS/ISWAP enclave at Tangalanga and Bula Marwa. After a heavy firefight, 3 insurgents were eliminated. Terrorists' life supporting structures in the camp, were also destroyed completely. Troops recovered six AK 47 rifles 47 magazines and ninety rounds of 7.62mm ammunition during exploitation of the area. In furtherance of the offensive operations, troops in conjunction with CJTF conducted ambush at Ngailda, Manjim and Wulle villages, where contact was made with the insurgents. Following the contact, troops successfully eliminated 6 terrorists while others fled in disarray. Items recovered by the troops during exploitation included motorcycles and bicycles. The neutralisation of 24 insurgents with close air support underscores the determination, collaboration, and concerted efforts by the troops of OPHK, to ensure terrorists are placed on the back foot, thereby creating conducive environment for socio-economic activities to thrive in the North East region. [/b]NAF AIRSTRIKES DEVASTATE BANDIT CONVOY IN KEBBI-ZAMFARA AXIS, NEUTRALISING SCORES OF FIGHTERS[b] In a major offensive under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has neutralised scores of armed bandits in a series of precision airstrikes conducted on 9 July 2025, targeting a migrating convoy along the Kebbi–Zamfara axis. The strikes were based on real-time intelligence, which revealed the movement of close to 150 motorcycles in batches, each carrying about 2 armed terrorists near Yarbuga in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State. After positive identification confirming the hostile presence, NAF aircraft engaged the convoy with devastating accuracy. Survivors were seen fleeing on foot and motorcycles, as air assets maintained persistent overwatch and executed follow-up strikes, effectively disrupting enemy withdrawal routes. Following the airstrikes, ground troops conducted a follow-up exploit mission to Yarbuga village on the morning of 10 July 2025. At the scene, remains of scores of terrorists and their weapons were found in the area, along with several burnt motorcycles. This joint air–ground operation dealt a significant blow to bandit networks in the region. It underscores the Nigerian Air Force’s unwavering commitment to protecting civilian lives, denying terrorists freedom of action and supporting ground forces to ensure lasting peace across the country. [/b]ON MAY 18 2025 CAS HIGHLIGHTED RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT AS CRUCIAL TO OPERATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS[b] The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has underscored the importance of Research and Development in enhancing Nigerian Air Force (NAF) operational effectiveness. He also stressed that cultivating indigenous capacity to manufacture and service platforms is essential to surmounting some of the constraints experienced in aircraft maintenance. Air Marshal Abubakar delivered these insights during the NAF Inter-Command Research and Development Competition, held earlier today, 18 May 2024, at NAF Base, Bill Clinton Drive, Abuja as part of activities lined up in commemoration of NAF's 60th Anniversary Celebrations. Speaking further, Air Marshal Abubakar went down memory lane to recount a poignant moment in NAF's history where, after acquiring 18 Jaguar aircraft in 1984, the entire fleet became grounded 7 years later with some having as little as 150 hours of total flight time majorly due to lack of spares or technical know-how. He went further to lament a similar fate with the MiG 21 aircraft, procured in 1975 and later retired in the late 1980s, with flight hours ranging from 43hrs to 469hrs. These premature retirements, he noted, underscored NAF's struggle to sustain operations due to technical shortcomings, echoing challenges in maintaining aircraft weaponry and other critical equipment. "This, once more," declared the CAS, "highlights the indispensable role of Research and Development in NAF's operations." The CAS then went on to highlight NAF’s distinction as a trailblazer in research and development endeavours. According to him, "With the production of the Tsaigumi UAV to pioneering advancements like rocket launchers, heat shields and weaponization of Alpha Jet aircraft, the NAF has consistently showcased its competence in Research and Development innovations. These achievements have ensured the readiness and deployment of NAF platforms and equipment across operational theaters." Recognizing the paramount importance of Research and Development, Air Marshal Abubakar, announced that he had approved the installation of 8 diverse CNC machines at the Air Force Force Research and Development Centre in Osogbo. He also added that the NAF was on the verge of signing a technology transfer agreement with a company in Europe for the production of the 57mm rocket armament. According to him, “These endeavors epitomize our commitment to prioritizing Research and Development, leveraging state-of-the-art technology, strategic partnerships, and lessons learned, in alignment with my command philosophy." In his opening address, the Chief of Standard and Evaluation, Air Vice Marshal MN Onyebashi, elucidated the competition's purpose which he says was to showcase innovative solutions addressing operational, maintenance, and service-related challenges within the NAF. The occasion was graced by Branch Chiefs, senior officers from the Nigerian Army, Navy and NAF as well as participants from NAF Commands across the country.
