Johnbosco241:
Does OPay debit card or gtbank debit card work for activation?
I have been using Opay's physical VerveCard for subscription since last year.

Hello. Please can anyone confirm if there’s a considerable difference in performance between the Starlink mini and the standard kit
Especially in rainy conditions

If you are in Abuja, you shouldn't expect good performance. The reason why some of us stick to Starlink is because it's still the most reliable Internet service around. Abuja and Lagos are oversaturated. Those enjoying Starlink are the people who live in locations where traffic is considerably less or non-existent.

I finally just reactivated my subscription. Firstly, I changed my Service location to Lagos then slide to activate my subscription and it automatically took payment and that was it. I am back online. Only payment for Residential plan (₦57,000) was charged and nothing more.

Mine ranges from 150-200Mbs download and 20-30Mbps Upload

Lagos..City.. Something must be obstructing your dish for you to be getting this slow speeds

The drama is well worth it and I use close to 2Tb per month

Performance has been very poor in Abuja though. I don't know Johnbosco241's location, but performance has been abysmal in Abuja for the past week. It gets better after midnight.

Re: My SpaceX Starlink Internet Experience In Lagos, Nigeria by zeedolla(m): 10:22am On Jul 01, 2025
Latency is 165ms, that is almost what MTN and Airtel are offering. I thought it would be somewhere below 40ms

You mean the 49k roaming? Why would you wanna switch from that to 57k residential? People on that 49k plan are extremely lucky, they have the best plan currently. They can move anywhere and still have service and also paying less (for now at least).

Yeah, Bro. It's been a while. All good, bro. It's been raining non-stop since early this morning.

No worries at all.

Lagos would definitely have the edge because of the ground station being there. So naturally, even with the traffic over there, performance would still be better than Abuja.

Starlink is still the best option around no matter how you look at it. Fiber and its frequent disruptions, mostly because of infrastructural damages, is very annoying, hence I never considered it. It's so unreliable.

You mean those who were on it are still stuck on it with N50k somehow since their plan wasn't price modified and the plan is officially removed from Nigeria?

That's correct! It was really hot cake here in Abuja at a time, we were selling for as high as a million naira for those who wanted to sell with active 49k plan on it. Till now it's still very expensive to buy as used.

I think it's an error on the part of Starlink and they're yet to correct it. Someone posted earlier that they were not charged the activation fee. However, you should take precaution before attempting to make payment. Make sure to reduce the funds in the account the card is connected to, to not more than 100k. Then attempt to make payment and see if you are only charged the 57k.

Whatever you decide, know that Jumia has 7-day return policy, unlike Starlink's 30-day return policy. And Starlink doesn't intervene in disputes with the return policy of their official distributors.

Have you tried it and did it work. I too just ordered another starlink kit from Jumia. It does say non-returnable on the jumia post. The mini cause of my workplace so I won’t have to move about my gen2 but someone who ordered before us Alabo said he saw 400k activation fee and called my attention. Now you also have the same thing. What did you do?

I have standard. I haven't used my dish for months and tried to reactivate it today, I saw that I will likely pay 80k activation charge in addition to the 57k plan to reactivate it.
Did you ask them why? Abi they charge fees now

According to a Starlink representative, users in high-demand areas such as Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt will now pay an additional ₦80,000 ($52.24) activation fee, bringing the total cost of the residential kit to ₦690,000 (approximately $455). This fee, the company explained, is to manage congestion in densely populated zones.

Cities outside Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt are exempt from paying the activation fee. The standard monthly subscription remains at ₦57,000 (about $38), while the Starlink mini kit—a smaller, more portable device—retails for ₦318,000 (around $210).

They use such charges to discourage people from getting onboard. They also do it overseas, not just here. In fact, in some parts of the US where capacity has been reached, they charge up to $1,000 activation fee. The idea is simply to discourage more customers from getting onboard, and it's legal.
