While growing up, a neighbor of mine went for a project outside his locality and never returned. His boss was interrogated as a prime suspect, but there was no lead on his whereabouts.

His family resulted to prayers, and were told by some men of God that he was alive. It's been years, but the funny thing is, I still see him in my dreams occasionally.

Honestly, if he ever comes back, I won't be surprised because he was overly ambitious, money hungry, and always talked about leaving town for a better life. Perhaps, he carried through with his plans.

When I was young there was this guy in my area who left for Europe via Libya. Till date no one ever heard from him.

His mom kept hoping that he'll show up one day but until her death he never did. As I grew older and understood how dangerous thst route was, I knew that he probably died in the course of the journey and never made it to Europe.

Had a female friend who told me that when she lived in Lagos with her girlfriends (those girls who would rent a flat together and take rooms), there was a party they were all supposed to attend, but she didn't go because she had high temperature and wasn't feeling well that day. She said none of the girls ever returned.

Did the police try to track them?

This thread reminds me of a Nigerian proverb which says "An elephant that swims in coconut oil can never use ATM to buy meat from the Pharmacy" 🥹
