Popular Forces: 1/21

So, apparently, Israel has been sponsoring a new “anti-Hamas” terror group in Gaza. Their name is the Popular Forces although they are also called Yasser Abu Shabab (after their founder who bears the same name.)

Popular Forces 2/21

Reports indicate the Israeli internal intelligence agency, the Shin Bet (along with some elements of the Palestinian Authority), created the Popular Forces. But their front man is a Palestinian man called Yasser Abu Shabab (photo below).

Popular Forces, aka Abu Shabab, has around 300 fighters. (This is the official number because the real figure is likely higher.) The Shin Bet recruited 250 while Abu Shabab recruited 50. Israel pays the salaries of the fighters.

Popular Forces 3/21

Interestingly, the founder of the Popular Forces, Yasser Abu Shabab, is a known drug dealer. He was arrested by Hamas for dealing in drugs in 2015 and was sent to a prison in Khan Yunis in Gaza. Israel bombed the prison during its genocide and freed the prisoners.

Abu Shabab escaped after Israel's bombing and then formed the group along with the Shin Bet.

In the meantime, Abu Shabab’s family has disowned him for aiding Israel in killing Palestinians. They have said they do not mind if he is killed for siding with Israel in murdering Palestinians.

Popular Forces 6/21

Now, this is the problem with the Popular Forces:

Many of their fighters are former Islamic State fighters who fought in the Sinai insurgency in Egypt. The Sinai insurgency itself started during the political upheaval that followed the Arab Spring in 2011 and ended in 2023.

The Egyptian military defeated ISIS and suddenly, the same ISIS spring up a year later in Gaza, in 2024. Nice coincidence. Remember that Israel provided 250 men while Abu Shabab brought only 50. That means Israel provided over 80% of the Popular Forces fighters.

Popular Forces 7/21

One of the ISIS fighters in the Popular Forces fighters is Issam Nabahin. He fought with ISIS in the Sinai insurgency in Egypt and returned to Gaza some months before October 7.

For some unknown reason, he started firing rockets into Israel once he got back to Gaza. Where he got the rockets from and why he was firing it into Israel, remains unclear.

Popular Forces 8/21

Issam Nahabin was later arrested in June 2023 for killing a police officer in Gaza.

The officer was among a group of officers who had gone to arrest him over 11 cases of stealing. He escaped through the back door and shot the officer in the abdomen. The police officer, Lieutenant Khaled Musleh, died. Nahabin himself was arrested two hours later.

Issam Nahabin was later sentenced to death. But he escaped prison on the first day of the war and is now fighting on the side of the Israel-backed Popular Forces.

Note that Issam Nahabin is not alone when it comes to firing rockets into Israel. Many other members of the Popular Forces have also been accused of firing rockets into Israel. Like Nahabin, why they were firing the rockets into Israel remains unclear, and where they got the rockets from is unknown.

Popular Forces 10/21

Another Islamic State member of the Popular Forces is Ghassan al-Dheini. He appears to be a top-ranking member of the group and is known to be affiliated with Fatah, the group that currently heads the Palestinian Authority, which rules over the West Bank.

Ghassan al-Dheini's brother, Walid al-Dheini was also an ISIS fighter who was killed by Hamas.

Note that Fatah itself works side-by-side with Israel for the most part even though the same Fatah claims to be working for a Palestinian state.

Popular Forces 11/21

For now, the Popular Forces operate side-by-side with Israeli soldiers in the Gaza strip. It says it “protects” humanitarian convoys but what it actually does is to loot them.

When Israel comes under international pressure to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, Israel allows the aid in and directs the drivers to pass through "safe routes" where Popular Forces fighters wait for them.

The Popular Forces then hijack these aid at gunpoint and resell it to Palestinians at high prices. The Popular Forces kill drivers who do not cooperate.

Meanwhile, western media always comes out to tell us that it was Hamas that hijacked these aid trucks. This is false. Hamas does not loot aid trucks, and has even engaged in gun battles against these Popular Forces fighters for looting aid trucks.

In this May 2025 news report, an Israeli jet bombed and killed six Gaza police officers who were preventing the Popular Forces fighters from hijacking aid trucks. In response, Hamas killed four of the Popular Forces fighters looting the aid trucks.

It also appears that Hamas had killed some Popular Forces fighters a while back, but may not have realized it at the time.

Here, Hamas published a video where it destroyed a group of men it called “Arabized” Israeli undercover soldiers. Hamas was referring to the Mista'arvim, which is an Israeli military and police unit consisting of Israelis who pose, dress, and behave like Arabs in order to infiltrate and attack Palestinian communities.

Hamas monitored the men as they entered a booby trapped house, which Hamas later blew up. As people have pointed out, the men are likely from the Popular Forces and may have been clearing the house before the IDF moved in. (There are reports that the Popular Forces clear homes for the IDF.)

In the video, observe that the men walk in groups and with guns in the open without any fear of being bombed from the air. This is unlike Hamas or even any Palestinian resistance group as Israeli planes, drones, and satellites are overhead 24/7.

But these men are so confident that nothing is going to happen to them. (More on this later.)

The men are also lax and do not appear to be well trained in raiding homes. Their weapon handling is subpar, their positioning is poor, and their spacing is zero, so they are definitely not Israeli Mista'arvim forces.

Together, the Israeli military and the Popular Forces have shot and killed people at aid sites in Gaza. Funny enough, as is common with Israel and western media’s propaganda machinery, they have turned around to claim Hamas was the one shooting at Palestinians at aid sites.

Can a Hamas fighter dare to go near an aid site filled with IDF fighters?

Hamas does not even dare to operate in the open where Israeli jets and drones are flying above them 24/7. Meanwhile, the Popular Forces operate within walking distance of Israeli soldiers.

The problem:

Over the past month, Israel has been rebranding the Popular Forces and trying to pass it off as a “security group” protecting aid going into Gaza. This is false, and everyone should be wary of such information as their propaganda machinery will go into full gear within the next few weeks to promote these "anti-Hamas" terror groups filled with Islamic State fighters.

There are also reports that Israel is trying to create additional “anti-Hamas” terror groups in Gaza. At least, three more terror groups are in the works. One for Northern Gaza, one for Eastern Gaza, and another for Central Gaza. The Popular Forces are already active in Southern Gaza, specifically in Rafah and Khan Yunis.

There are already reports of a group led by Rami and Ahmed Khalas being active in eastern Gaza. There is also a group lef by Yasser Khanidak active in soutern Gaza where Abu Shabab is also active. These two groups are closely linked to Fatah.

Popular Forces 17/21

Back to the Popular Forces:

Israel pays the Popular Forces their salaries through the Fatah-led Palestinian Authority (PA). Payments are handled by Baha al-Balusha, a top Palestinian Authority intelligence official based in Gaza.

But things are not rosy

Baha al-Balusha is already clashing with Majed Faraj, the Palestinian Authority's overall intelligence chief. (Majed Faraj heads the General Intelligence Service (GIS), which is responsible for intelligence within Palestine.)

Popular Forces 18/21

Another handler of the Popular Forces is Mohammed Dahlan, who is a senior Fatah member. But things are not rosy with him too since he is opposed to Palestinian Authority's president, Mahmous Abbas.

Dahlan has been arrested by Israel in the past. But he and Israel later became friends and he headed the 5,000-man strong Palestinian intelligence group, the Preventive Security Service.

Dahlan worked with the CIA and Israeli intelligence in the role and had up to 20,000 men under him at one point. His men used to torture Hamas fighters back in the 90s and once tried assassinating Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas political bureau chief who was supposed to be the Palestinian Prime Minister, after Hamas won a majority of the available seats in the 2006 Palestinian elections.

Dahlan is also accused of poisoning former Palestinian Prime Minister, Yasser Arafat, at the behest of Israel.

Dahlan has connections with multiple Middle Eastern governments and is estimated to be worth around $120 million, with much of it being proceeds of corruption. (More on Dahlan below.)
